Thanks for the replies. I do have Allied Sub Doctrine on if that is making a difference. I hadn't considered that the Ai might be scripted to have a look around the Solomons in mid/late '42. It could make sense if it has, but it's a bit pointless because, in my game at least, Lunga is massively occupied by the Americal Div and friends (including RAF base units and Canadian and NZ air units ). With 10 Japanese carriers also already parked on the floor of the Coral Sea, there probably isn't going to be much action in the area except from me. If there is a routine to force the Sub Ai to call off any hunting around Japan and go for the Solomons via Sydney, it may not be worth having, as I guess like me that many Allied players are already in a position where it is not needed and the subs would be better off remaining around Japan and the South China Sea. I've had a relaxing day off work today and have been able to run a whole month of the game. The mass migration hasn't even reached the shores of Oz yet, so almost all of the Allied subs are going to be out of commission for two months before they resume some kind of patrolling in hostile waters, or even more if they are going to try to sail all the way back to Japan. I tried setting their base back to PH but as soon as I turned them back to Ai it reset them to Sydney again. If the Ai isn't going to run them properly then for me they are out of the game, it's too much extra work to manage each sub. It would probably also lead to massive leaps in enemy sinkings if they are controlled by the human, and I try to give the Ai a few breaks. From what Platoonist has said, I guess I could be without a useful submarine arm for months. Good job I'm having so much fun with the reast of the game then. Especially my ongoing 'Stalingrad of the East', where 107,000 Japanese troops are trying to take Mandalay back from 44,000 Commonwealthers.
