I visited the SAC museum in Nebraska a couple years back, and on one of the display monitors they showed footage of the post-Pearl Harbor repairs, including raising of the BBs sunk at pier. Does anyone know where to find this footage? Not on Victory at Sea, nor World at War. SAC museum staff didn't have a clue.

It also has a LOT of good pictures showing different stages of the salvage operation for each ship

There is a famous picture of Oklahoma berthed next to Wisconsin after she was righted and refloated. The size difference is amazing.

Damn straight. I was lucky to have tested a bunch of vehicles up for military procurement at LETE (Land Equipment Test Establishment) and I needed a winch a few times! Most fun job. Baha-ing without guilt or worries!

I always imagined the job of righting the Oklahomamust have been one half gratifying to put her back on the surface...one half depressing to see a proud ship reduced to such a state.

Status: offline 		Well, the one consolotation (as an Okie) to me about hte whole thing is they didn't make one damn razor blade out of her.

You guys outta come down to Oklahoma, in the states capital, there is a 15-20 foot model of the Oklahoma in as built condition. The thing is MASSIVE.

Imagine what the salvagers went through working amid and removing the remains of the deceased sailors. I read a lengthy article regarding the repairs to HMS Orion at Mare Island. The dead British sailors and soldiers were sealed in the wrecked turrets and compartments from the time of her near destruction at Crete until her arrival in San Francisco. Believe there is a cemetary in the area where they were laid to rest. Grisly task.

Status: offline 		Ahhhh...the Wisconsin. My second ever ship model when I was 10 yrs old. First was Graf Spee. Third was SSN Skipjack. Good times...blew too many up once I discovered explosives though! Used to live on a spring fed lake in Nova Scotia and a few lead weights added to full hulled models (with a whack of chemicals of course) made for some serious special effects. Lost my photos unfortunately!
