WITP on the laptop....watching a little pigskin on the tube...and hunting season just around the corner!!!! Now if I could just find a beatiful rich nymphomaniac that loves the 3 aformentioned activities life would near perfect....but I just thought...a nympho probably wouldn't leave you with much time for the other 3....life is sooooo complicated..

What're you hunting. Here in the desert we've doves coming up in a couple weeks. And my USMC friend and I drew mule deer tags.

I don't get this whole American love of hunting. Waxing a duck from 200m with a rifle serves what purpose?
I worked with a Texan once who was into hunting (top bloke apart from his desire to massacre innocent woodland beings with heavy weaponry), he told me it helped make a man of you and made you feel at one with nature.
In my opinion the manly activity of hunting would be all the more manly if the psychos who find killing fun went after some bears in the rockies armed with knives instead of guns.

Not to mention the hmmm yummy steaks you can get out of a deer, or the hmmm yummy hams a nice feral hog produces. slurp. When living in Texas I used to have a freezer full of the critters.
Did I forget Jackrabbit? Much better than cottontail actually.
Oh I got this strange craving for a civet de chevreuil....

Puh-lease. No one shoots a duck with a rifle. One shoots a duck (in the US anyhow) with a 12 or 10 ga shotgun loaded with steel shot. The purpose is to eat the duck and to enjoy the hunt. One could of course purchase some poultry-farm duck from a supermarket but that's not as flavorful a duck and of course not as fun.

Texans. Sheesh.

For me it's a matter of the simultaneous convergence of several things that I enjoy doing all wound up in one activity. 1. Eating meat. 2. Shooting. 3. Being in the outdoors. And I must admit that there is some attraction to the act of stalking and the adrenalin rush when you line up the shot; I suspect it's a quiet hormonal thing endemic to bipedal primates. Have you ever gone hunting? Don't knock it until you give participant-observation a good-faith effort.

I agree that if there are psychos who are primarily attracted to the killing aspect it'd be nice if they'd hunt bears with knives. I've never met such a person hunting. When you shoot something that dies instantly, like a dove, it's no more a "yay I killt sumthin" thing than one would expect from swatting a fly. With bigger animals, like deer, I always feel a moment of grief for the animal as an individual. But only for a moment. Then I start thinking about sausage or something and the remorse dissipates most quickly. "Yay I killt sumthin" never really enters the experience.

Really? I'd have suspected otherwise, based on the esularity of Snowshoe Hare (another rangey long-legged beastie). Do you do something to really tenderize the jackrabbits?

Cottontails are much drier than Jackrabbits (Who are hares anyway)
Marinate them for 24hrs in a wine, onion, carrot and celery mixture. You may add some juniper berries if you think it is still too gamey.
Also it helps to keep them on ice for a couple of days prior to freezing or marinating.
Enjoy

If you had a short nymph and a high desk (ala Clinton) you could do (Literally) two of the three at the same time.

One should know what they are talking about before being critical of someone!!! You dont use a rifle... besides being highly illegal that would be akin to being some redneck rube which I am not...shotguns are used and I eat what I kill. The wild game taken has a helluva better chance than the pigs, cows, etc in a slaughter house do..

Was the shotgun upgradable to a rifle around 1944 according to the game dynamics ? Or was it historically limited like the japanese shotguns ?
