G'Day guys,

I was hoping one of you computer savy types might be able to help me. I started a download of SP2, then started another from a faster site and stopped the previous one. I successfully installed SP2, but now I can't get rid of the other file from my desktop. I can't even take ownership over it, or delete it from a commnad prompt after halting Explorer. It gives me the file in use by another person or program can't delete error.

I even tried to delete it from safe mode and that didn't work

Any workarounds for killing this file?

Or is it time to format?

By stopped do you mean simply stopped it or did you actually stop the D/L and CANCEL fully the download?

If use a download manager possiable if only stopped it tha d/l manager has it in "pause" and waiting to resume it or something..

If thats the case maybe going into download manager and "managing" the file will fix it.

No I checked all that. For the moment I've just turned it into a hidden file. At least this has removed the annoyance factor. I think this file will just persist until I format the drive. That's Micro$oft for you.

Thanks for the help.

There's always the 'brute force' method. First make sure you have the full path name, should be something like:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Desktop\Filename.exe

Then hit Start>>>Run and type 'cmd' without the quotes, click OK. This brings up the command window, similar to the DOS windows of old and you can use DOS commands here. From the command prompt type:

DEL C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Desktop\Filename.exe and hit enter.

Then type 'exit' without the quotes and hit enter. You should be good to go.
