How do you get a mine warfare TF to lay mines in the same hex that it is based in? I've tried numerous times with a TF based in Pearl Harbor (set to retirement allowed) but I never get the mine laying mission message. Eventually I had to resort to loading it with mines, sending it to Maui and having it lay mines at Pearl from there. Am I missing something obvious?

By the way if anyone has any handy hints on anti-mime warfare I'll be happy to take those as well.

Try setting its homebase to somewhere else.
If that doesnt work move it one hex out and then back in and see if that works.

Hmmm. Resetting it's home base sounds much more convenient than my current method. I'll give it a try.

TF seem to like to dock in port hex, I always change the Home port and micro mange the usage, ie move one hex out move one hex back reset rearm etc...

That's the only way I've ever gotten it to work too.

Just be careful with the moving one hex out. If you forget to set the mission to patrol/do not retire you will end up mining the open sea.

Well, I'm not a big mine fan, but I do think they have their place in this game. I've been thinking about this. Why is it so hard to get mines laid in large ports? Because the game is written with the assumption that you load mines in large ports and send them somewhere else. That's ok. I'm not the one developing the game, so I'd have a hard time trying to suggest code rewrites.

But, it seems like it's easier to mine area's other than your major ports. I have a suggestion. It's something I'd say should be on the very low priority list. I suggest that if you have a size 9 or larger port AND you have a mine laying surface ship (ML, DM, etc), then the mines in that port should not degrade at all. That way, you can just leave a ML in Pearl harbor and not deal with the tedious workaround to keep mines in a major port. Of course, you can probably exploit my method by having one DM in port and using one other DM to keep adding mines to make a size 9 port almost invulnerable to invasion.

Another fix would be to have any port size 9 or larger just have a set amount of mines. Say 400. I think this is the least desirable fix as an invasion force wouldn't be able to sweep the mines until the port is captured. Then, the invading force would have 400 defensive mines that day.

Anyway, it seems like places like Tokyo and Pearl should have good minefields without too much effort on the players part.
