*Note-I did use the seach engine on the forum and found no discussion on this matter. If there was previous discussion I am sorry.

The Post

I am frustrated by the aircraft upgrades allowed for the marines. The very fact that the f4f-4 upgrades to the hellcat is an issue. In trying to resolve this, does it make more sense just to upgrade, with the editors specific group upgrade path, the Navy Squardrons to either the Hellcat or the FM-2 Wildcat and have the standard F4F-4 upgrade be the Corsair F4U-1, or should it go the other way?

Also, for a more realistic aircraft level, all Marine bomber and torpedo squardrons should set at 18 planes. I know the standard to&e for both Fighter and Bomber/Torp squadrons were 18 until mid 1944 when they went to 24 (with a corresponding reduction in the number of active squadrons), but this new level closer reflect the true plane strenght through early 1944.

If you check each unit when it appears, even though they have F4F-4's, I bet they upgrade to F4U's.

Check the upgrade path, most VMF's upgrade from F4F3 to F4F4 to Hellcats

the only ones I have seen that gets the F4u are the ones the come in with it

fly F4F4 all upgrade to Hellcats

VMF 441 flys F4F3 upgrades to Hellcats

VMF 224
VMF 221
VMF 211
fly F4F3 upgrade to F4F4 (two I was able to upgrade, then change to Hellcats)

only VMF units I see that get F4u come into the game flying them

But is this Incorrect? I know that some VMF units flew the Hellcat (and Liked it !) Should these other units eventually upgrade to F4U's? If they do, is the current production of Corsairs high enough to allow for the upgrade? I also want to know where the USN PBJ squadrons are and do we get any of the specialty B-25's or other attack aircraft? (refering to the 75 mm cannon Mitchell or teh Mossie TSE-TSE)

Oh, What do you guys think about being able to assign a percentage of a squadron to Recon and the rest woudl fly a secondary mission. I hate giving a recon order to a whole squadron of 12 to 24 planes. 2 or 3 fly missons and the rest sit. I coudl set 4 to recon and 20 to ASW, or Naval Patrol, or Naval attack, that woudl be useful.

well not sure, but from Corsair Aces, list some of the top F4u squadrons

VMF 112
VMF 121
VMF 122
VMF 123
VMF 124
VMF 211
VMF 212
VMF 213
VMF 214
VMF 215
VMF 221
VMF 222

which as you can see, some of those are Hellcat squadrons in the game, hassle with the info in the book, don't tell plane types or which plane changes were made

need more detailed info

Your point is well taken. This sounds like an OB issue. These VMF should upgrade to corsairs and not Hellcats at least from what I can find on the issue. It is probably an easy fix using the editor.
