I have in january 1942. American B-17 flying from Kendari attack day after day my beach head of Davao. In one of this attacks one B-17 struck WITH FIVE BOMBS one of my transports. Almost every day the bombers make hits. I think this is a bug.
I some cases is like the level bombing is more accuracy that dive bombing.

There is a known bug with very high altitude bombing (over 30,000 feet).

Curious... I didn't know bout this bug. LOL! Seriously though, I've not seen anything to lead me to think that the B17 is any more or less accurate then it should be. Particularly in the early stages of the war. I've played two games up to Feb 42 so far and I think in both of them I've only had one bomb from a B17 strike a ship.

B17C's are doing well against ground targets, but against naval forces they're worthless.

EDIT: I should add, with the experience of the crews at the time at least... Later on, I know this improves with various tactics employed.

hit them in port when they are at the dock. You'll love the results.

Okay then, a bug already known to and acknowledged by Matrix. Happy now?

I am not quite sure if this is a bug.
I got descent results of my B17e/c attacking ships at altitudes of 5000/6000 feet, but only after they had better training levels (of 65 or better).
They perform very good on unloading ships and are less accurate on moving vessels.

They said that a level bomber can never hit with more than one of its bombs. The bombs are supposed to be spread out so far that AT MOST one bomb can hit. This was mentioned either in the patch notes of on this forum by one of the developers. So this seems to be another bug, in addition to the altitude overflow bug.

sad to read this, It was already a known bug in Bombing the Reich and I guess the same formula was taken for Witp.

For those who not know BTR, sending your b17 in at their max Altitude gave you always a 100% destroyed target, and that far out of reach of the AA Guns, btw it woked for P47s too, one sqaudron destroyed a whole factory, regardless of wheather or size.

I did a mission last night with 80 bombers set to 35000 feet and destroyed 143 planes on the ground in an airfield attack! It's like my very own Pearl Harbor first turn surprise bonus... except its any turn I choose!

Once again, since it is a known bug, why fly over 30000 feet till it is fixed? If ya want to cheat just edit the game.

Well, this was against my good old friend the AI and he's never minded my cheating in the past.
Actually, I was testing if it was specific to the B-17 or not. I used non-B-17 planes and got the same effect.

Yea, i lost my first Pbem game of BTR because of this bug. Couldn't shoot them with AA at that altitude and your fighters start so dispersed and damaged i figure it takes 3 weeks to get ready to fight. Unfortunately, 3 weeks later my Rubber & Electrical industry was gone!

For sure. I'm playing scn 5 all patched up on hard level. I've been running my B-17E's at 36600, down too 30000 alt over Lae and Rabual and yes they are killers on port attack.........IMHO a bug yes as has been pointed out.

keep 'em under 32768 feet and you will not see the bug.

Yep, I knew the problem. I once played a guy who only hunted my disrupted allied bombers when they were returning home (damaged)- When I asked him , if he played to win or just to have fun, he answered me, winning is his only objective.

The day after that, i sent my B17s in at max Altitude and my P47 at their max Altitude, all objectives were destroyed (each p47 squad destroyed a factory) . After that, we replayed the turn and he did behave like normal (attacking my raids while they were incoming).

Ok, this was Off topic and a PBEM Opponent who only wants to ahve fun, doesn`t explore this. But black sheeps are everywhere.
