You might have heard of her sister, Jean Bart. A Vichy French ship, she engaged in a small battle with the battleship USS Massachusetts, despite not even being complete. She scored no hits, while the Massachusetts scored several hits, putting the Jean Bart out of action in less than 15 minutes. The Richelieu escaped to Britain, was modernized in the US, and eventually wound up in the Far East Fleet with te surviving KGVs. After the war, she served in the French navy until 1957-1960, something like that. Jean Bart was eventually completed, and served alongside her sister post war, until being scrapped. The third unit, Clemanceau, was captured before launching by the Germans in 1940. She was launched, but never completed. She was scrapped postwar.
