hi all,

first of all, i play UV since its release and find that its a great game in the tradition of the good old SSI classic games..BUT:

i wonder if matrix will ever release a patch with a improved AI or not to keep the game alive even for the people who do not play against human players all the time.

i was very happy as matrix told that the next patch for witp will bring alot of improvements for the AI and wonder if they can do the same with UV?

would be a great upgrade for a great game.

bye

AFAIK only BUG fixes - nothing more (if ever but I really hope so) .
There are some BUGs in that are supposed to be fixed with the pilot allocation as the most wanted fix (especially if you play Jap) .

I don't want to piss on your fire, but I think, as far as updates and patches go, UV is dead in the water.

WITP is the successor, and, as such, that will receive the focus. It is very much a policy of ALL software companies (games and otherwise) that when they move on to another product, they stop supporting previous incarnations.

You only have to look at Microsoft for the example...Windows NT is now, officially, unsupported as is Windows 98 etc...because new apps are out.

That's the way of the software world I'm afraid.

Besides...there is no money in support. If they charged you for the patches, you probably wouldn't want them...so they have to move on to money spinning ideas.

I think Matrix (and the developers themselves), overall, support their games pretty well. There have already been many patches for UV.

Gaming companies worth their salt always have forward momentum. If you look at the Battle of Britain/12 o'clock High model for example, it is not unreasonable to assume that uv will not be altered further. Is the game perfect? Certainly not, but Matrix and the 2by3 staff pumped an incredible effort into making it the best representation of the subject we are likely to see.

Personally I don't mind if the game stays as it is until the sun goes supernova. I only hope there will be enough other players who share this passion and will be playing it many years from now.

Blitzer,

Are you using the 106 exe and the 105 OOB from JC Larouse? It is much improved.

As to UV, I would consider it "AS IS".

Hi 2ndACR,

To my chagrin, I've actually never gotten much involved with with BTR. I've got both BoB and its big sister, but have only tinkered with them. I guess part of me wants to save them for a future addiction. I am aware of the improved version and will certainly use it when I decide to play seriously. I hope there are still players around then...

There was talk as to a final patch for UV with some of the WITP improvements although
I am not sure were that stands now.

I'm not sure either. They might decide to retrofit some WitP features to uv. Anyway, has anyone compared the May 1st deployments of the two games? Very different indeed...

that would be great.

a final patch with some real AI improvments would help to keep UV alive for a long time.
