Due to game errors cropping up in our first WiTP BPEM game Grraven and I decided to start over again fresh with version 1.21, Scenario 1. The whole war.. Hopefully this one won’t go south on us. So, without further ado I present World War 2.

Admiral Kimmel jerked awake in his bed. Nervously he looked around before relaxing back into his bed. It was all a Dream, a horrible nightmare. The Japanese attack, the sinking of the Enterprise, the invasion of the Philippines. The whole last month just a nightmare.
He chuckled at his own foolishness. Of course the Japanese wouldn’t attack at Pearl. The idea was absurd. Just as he began to sink back into his bed, he heard the droning of aircraft in the distance. Wasn’t it to early for air drills? He rolled over and looked at the Calendar. It was Sunday morning Dec 7th, 1941.

Air Raid Pearl Harbor! The damage is about what I expected and no worse. He scores better then he did last game. Worse off are the PBYs , I’m going to need every PBY I can get my hands on. I also cringe at the inevitable air attacks tomorrow.

There were heavy Air raids on Singapore and over Malaya. A Bombardment group pounds Mersing and puts troops on the ground. 2 Battleships and smaller warships pound the ground troops. It seems Like the POW will get some action sooner then later. Looks like Grraven isn’t going to let Mersing sit for a bit and he is going straight for the jugular.

The Japanese Capture Batan easily and land troops on Tuguegarao, Kuching, Legaspi, Vigan, Jolo, Tarakan, Brunei, Guam

Intel Report.

Judging by the number of planes and patrol sightings we put all six Japanese first line carriers within 150 miles of Pearl Harbor. We estimate that the Japanese light Carrier forces are operating south of the Philippines to support additional landings and cut off the retreat route from the Philippines. At Least 2 Japanese Battleships are involved in the shore attacks on Mersing.

Rather then risking the our Carriers in direct confrontation we are adopting a fall back strategy to keep away from the much larger Japanese carrier force.

Wish me luck

It is true that it is a sad day to invest all that time into something just to have to restart. However I am totally about being fair and things were just getting way out of hand. Shanghai was showing 818 usable Hi with over 64,000 to be repaired. Also one of the bases on Formosa was starting to get really skewed.

I liked the position I was in but hey I would much rather have a fair game than be totally unbalanced.

Neither one of us wanted to start over but it seemed like a good idea to do it now rather then have the game completely unravel on us in a couple of months. I know Grraven was happy with his position in the other game and it's not often he gets to sink one of my carriers. :-)

Dec 8th 1941

The Japanese struck east of Pearl. Hammering the fleet for the second straight day. Fleeing units barely missed the KB, I don’t know why strikes weren’t launched on these east bound units but I’m glad.

Strange as it may sound but Pearl Harbor was not the most important action of the day. In Malaya Force Z departed Singapore to meet their destiny. Mersing was still under heavy attack by Japanese Surface forces. Force Z moved in to relieve the pressure.

All told only 2 destroyers make it out with the Repulse. Disastrous but they fought bravely.

Things aren’t completely bad today. The Lexington strikes the invading fleet off of Wake Island. USN Aviators show why they are some of the world’s best.

Grraven won’t have many ships left from that Invasion fleet. It’s not a major loss to him but the victory is a good moral booster back home as the Lady Lex avoids almost 30 Nells. Time to pull back before KB takes off after me.

In Malaya the Japanese continue to land at Mersing.. The Singapore Air force takes off and scores well.

The best they could do was put a torp into a light Cruiser.

Meanwhile the Japanese Capture Guam and Jolo.

Heavy fighting continues for Naga, Tuguegarao, Mersing, Vigan, and Kuching.

Air to Air losses had to hurt the Japanese today as the lost 22 planes in air to air combat and 27! To flak. Losses to date include some 27 Nells. Nothing to slow him down but it’s nice to know I can still pin **** the Japanese juggernought.

Sorry to hear about the restart.. but it sounds like you guys are already into the thick of things. Sounds Like Grraven has learned and will capture Mersing soon.
Brave move attacking with Force Z like that. Those Long Lances are death to allied warships

thanks again for the AAR. I look forward to reading more as the war progresses

The Japanese Capture Kuching, Making and Mersing! Mersing is a hard loss considering last game but it’s not unexpected. The Aussies put up such a fight last game that I figured Grraven would come after it sooner.

Fighting Continues at Naga, Tuguegarao, Tarkan, Vigan and Hong Kong. Over Hong Kong the AVG takes a toll on attacking planes

-----

Japanese Air attacks continue across the board. Hitting Clark’s Field and several other bases. Other then that all I can do is hope that the KB leaves Pearl while I still have a battlefleet.

Good news is recon units show KB retreating to the NW, presumably to meet up with their tankers and refuel. We will probably keep fleets out of Pearl and on the West Coast till we can know for sure whether KB intends to return to Japan and replenish it’s air groups or refuel and hit Pearl again.

In the DEI a Jap sub hits one of the Escaping Force Z light Cruisers and sends her to the bottom

However oddly enough no Japanese Bombers are seen over Singapore. Could this mean that Ggraven is building up his forces before returning?

Ground Combat Continues at Homg Kong, Tuguegarao, Vigan, Naga and Tarkan but no Bases fell to the Japanese today.

In China our forces are concentrating. Japanese Forces look like they are on the way to Yenen.

Today was a slow day. I think Grraven is pulling back a little in preparation for his next big round of invasions.

The Japanese Bomb Singapore and Clark’s field but encounter air opposition at Clarks.

Planes in Malaya continue to attack the Japanese fleet but score little this turn. Only a couple of bomb hits reported on Transports.

Recon shows the KB North of Midway and also shows the baby KB heading south, perhaps towards Kendari.

The Japanese continuer attacking

It seems like you two have come back out swinging. I can't tell for sure but it looks like you've both lost more ships so far compaired to the last game. Thanks again for the great AAR, it's one of the most readable here.

Jon it seems like you are jumping around your AVG alot more.. why is that?

Ggraven, you don't seem to be moving so fast in China?

Thanks again. I'm getting so many good tips just reading you two

Trying to find a China strategy that works has been my hardest challenge. do you advocate the assualt on Yenen as in your Previous game? As the Allies is there any hope holding Yenen or is it just a deplaying action?

Thanks again for a enjoyable and readable AAR

Yenen is critical imo if your going to have any chance at Lanchow. I really would like to have that 125 oil to augment my HI in China. You either have to push through Yenen or Homan. I have found that there are less troops to defend Yenen and as the Japanese you can get a real good force there pretty quickly. I still am finding troops that I will think hey where did they come from and put them to work. The biggest thing for me is to find the right troops to garrison cities so I can free up some divisions. There are a few that are overkill. i.e. a division holding a city that only needs 10-30 assult factors when a divsion has like 430. So its move a small unit there to free up the big one and then wait for the big one to get into the action.

Over all its been frustating but I am getting the hang of it. My other invasions are going well except Rabaul but then I have troops to fix that one soon.

It sounds like the Chinese will always lose the race to Yenen.. Is there any point in trying to save that City as the Chinese? How much weight can the Japanese Bring to Yenen before it starts sapping their strength elsewhere?

The Japanese have enough units close by to take Yenen if they start there from day one. If they are slow in getting there and the Chinese make an effort they could delay the conquest of the city for a few weeks. However a smart Japanese player is going to tap into the Manchuko garrison and Yenen is closest to there so I think its inevitiable that its going to fall.
