I am playing as the allies and I'm slowly working my way towards Rabaul.
The target is in sight, but now I have a problem.
The aviation support numbers at my main bases are falling. It seems that the units (aviation regiments) aren't receiving any replacements.
Other units stationed at the bases receive lots of replacements, squadrons get planes and pilots, infantry units get squads and guns, and upgrading of planes and weapons seem to work fine, too... but for some reason I don't get any aviation support replacements.
Hardly any, anyway.
The replacement pool tells me that several thousands of AV support replacements are available - but that only 32 have been distributed so far in the whole of the Pacific Theater(four months into the '42 campaign).
I have lots of supplies everywhere and my headquarters are placed at Gili Gili (southwest hq) and Shortlands (south hq), but my aviation regiments at Port Moresby, Gili Gili and Shortlands don't get any replacements - they just slowly melt away...
Am I overlooking something here?

Probably Malaria ... it rots your troops non-stop.

You need to plan on troop rotations into a non-Malaria area to build them back to strength.

Mr Frag: to this point, the manual states that one BF in each base is designated the primary, and will build beyond it's TOF. I haven't seen this yet. Is this functionality in place, and are there conditions you know of to ensure it occurs?

Thanks.

Is this indicated in some way, or is it apparent because of the high drop in troop levels. Does morale decline as well (I would expect it would).

I have not gotton far enough into a game yet to see the effects of Malaria on troop levels.

Thanks

What you will see it a permanent fatigue on the troops even though you are doing everything possible to make them better, they just keep getting worse. As the poor engineers in base units are usually working building up the base, they tend to be the first to start becoming disabled.

Malaria is by far the most effective weapon in the war. Having a non-malaria base while fighting someone who is in a malaria base is always a win ... it is just a matter of time.

Doh! Double DOH!

Thanks. I'll now stop looking for this and deal with it. (But, good to know the AI is benefiting.)

Hi, The reason is the AI cannot always move exactly the right amount of support to a base. As the AI expands an airfield it's support unit expands to handle the number of aircraft that the AI can place there.

Malaria...
Troop rotations...
Yes, that makes sense.
I like that - very realistic conditions.
My hat off to the developers.
And thank you, Frag, for the speedy reply.

A great game this is!

Jensen a note on this:

On the base information screen, bottom left corner, it indicates if the base is in a malaria zone or not. As others mentioned, locate the nearest base to your area of operations that's non malaria for rotation. I try and keep an HQ unit on the closest and largest non malaria base to where I'm conducting operations. Reinforcments arrive there and you have a central place to run in supplies etc. Make sure to set the HQ's future objective to the base you're attacking if applicable.

Large bases in supply (4/4 base size or better seems to work) will take fewer malaria losses but units won't recover there as in a non malaria base.
