I wish to play the long version of the WWII campaign, as the German side, from it's first excursions in Western Europe, til the end. However, I am just wondering if the "core" element of troops that I choose will remain with me for all those years, or wil they receive upgrades, especially in equipment. I don't think my 2cm cannon will do much versus a late model Sherman.... So, would it be better to choose a massive amount of infantry and arty as your core group, and use your support points for the tanks of the period?

As you finish each battle, you gets points to upgrade or fix your units. Usually I go through and fix or upgrade my damaged units. If there are points left over, you can use them to upgrade any unit. I try to upgrade my units with the most experience first. [ February 27, 2002: Message edited by: Max VonLoben ]

Its important to note that while you can upgrade the equipment in your units, you cannot add more units to your starting list. So, if you want to add a platoon of assault guns or SPA later once they are available, you will have to have some placeholder in your core force at the start.

Well, yes you CAN do this. The editing is not difficult. But it does make later battles kinda funny from an assigned units standpoint. Depends upon how the player feels about "free style" play. Bing

Gentlemen. I fully agree with Bing and Charles_22. There is far to often to little time for "intelligent" recon and this often results in gamey (reckless) playing. Well, the thread is getting long so I might have missed this one. Someone (Les the Sarge 9-1?)thought about purchasing knowledge of hexes for a price. What about purchasing turns in a similar manner as purchasing reinforcements? Would that be conceivable?? Of course the scenario designers always have to take into account that playing stiles differ and particular scenarios simply call for a certain stile/approach. This thread truly highlights the responsibility of the designer to consider time as much as a factor of a good scenario as everything elso on the map, terrain, torrent and troops.
Regards
Sveinn

Would you please explain how to add units to your core force once a campaign has started?

1) Copy the three files comprising the current game turn, paste them to a different directory. 2) Change the name of the files to Scenxxx.(extension unchanged) - xxx being an unused slot number in your Scen dir. 3) Load the new "Scen" files into the Scen dir. 4) Open the Editor, load the file and edit. 5) Leave the game, save and rename the scen files back to the same saved turn number you started with. 6) Load the revised Save files back into your Save dir, start the game and you have a revised battle. Caution: Real easy to screw up the units, so be careful what and how you edit. If for instance you change ANYTHING on Aux units, those very same Aux units will magically become core units in the next battle. I reserve this kind of editing mostly to change the arty ratings of an FO, or morale and experience ratings for units I think are out of line. The above applies strictly to the campaigns that come with the game and those created prior to the Mega Camps, I don't yet know how to do the latter. Bing
