There are a few things I would like to see with this game. I posted a similare response to the Former PacWar site but with its demise here I am. To me the most important feature any game, especially a strategy game MUST have is an editing capability. Hey, we all know what battles took place in the Pacific in WWII and their outcome. And yes we can replay them in an attempt to change the outcome. Many years ago I had the old Apple IIe game Carriers at war, followed by Strike Carrier on my 286. They were a lot of fun but after a while they became very confining since I could not edit them. There were some editors put together by some very talented people but the overall games are still confined since I cant really create my own campaign and scenarios. I want to be able to be in command of my forces. I want to decide when I do what I do and where i do it. For example I will use the battle of Midway, hey after 35 years of gaming I can tell you I have defeated the US Navy more than once, but where do you go from there? I want to be able to control what my factories produce and I want to control where my units are deployed. I want to decide what My Strategy is and not be forced into a situation that somebody else was in 60 years ago over and over and....etc... If my forces take a base I want to be able to utilize it in MY Game. I want to be able to decide when a campaign or scenario should start and end. I want to be able to decide what places are strategically important for the campaign I invision. I want to have to deal with MY disasters and losses. For example, the attack on Pearl Harbor, all other games out reinact this battle very well, but, what if I dont want to invade the PI? What if I think my plan to hold off the US Forces would be better served by invading and taking the Hawaiian islands? No game has ever done that or allowed me to try. I want to be in command of my forces, that is the bottom line. If I decide I want a shore facility somewhere, hey, I want to be able to build it. If I decide that I dont want to give up a ficility, hey, I want to be able to destroy it. If I am going to be in command of the US Forces Pacific or the Japanese Forces Pacific, well I want just that and nothing less. I have developed my own game systems over the years for WWII and have many different scales of play for all the areas involved. I dont see any reason with all the really talented minds out there like Gary and many others who have created some very good game, that a COMPLETE game can be created. Well that is just what I would like to see and I think the Gary and the Matrix team have what it takes to get it right. Their new release of Steel Panthers World at War looks to be pretty complete, with perhaps the exception of campaign editing. Just have to check it out and see what it has. Definitely going to download that one!
Later,
