I don't think I can get the 4-1 advantage now that I've lost the CV, CVL, and BB in the Battle of New Zealand. Though if I can take out the PI, Burma, Malay, and the rest of China that will be a lot of points the Allies will lose.

I didn't see any attack on any IJN carriers or battleships in the combat reports.

I don't think I can get the 4-1 advantage now that I've lost the CV, CVL, and BB in the Battle of New Zealand. Though if I can take out the PI, Burma, Malay, and the rest of China that will be a lot of points the Allies will lose.

Well, you should feel some pride in the capture of Pearl Harbor (ahem, I mean Mogami Harbor), but I don't see where the points will come from to get you to 4-1. According to Zeta16, you don't even have 2-1 now (18000 to 12000), and your support craft losses are going to limit some of your future offensives. Besides, the DEI and PI have had a few months to build fortifications. That will be tough to breakdown. And you'll want to have that area settled by the time the USA comes knocking. As long as the Americans don't rush back too quickly, it's going to be tough for you to supply and defend -- especially if he decides to byupass Mogami Harbor and push up from Australia/NZ (or down from Alaska?)!

In any event, I'm enjoying reading your AAR.

Yes, I'll look into. There still are plenty of points that can be added to the Japanese total and subtracted from the Allies from securing Burma, PI, DEI, and Malay. I'm probably going to capture all of China by the end of 1942 which is going to add another 3000 points to my total and take a little away from the Allies. Anyway there is still a lot of points on the board.

Here is the Hawaiian Islands under complete Japanese control. The center point of the defenses is Mogami Habor, a 10-10 port/airfield with plenty of mines and fortifications.

I currently have three major airfields up at Appari, Vigan, and Lingayen. The plan is simple: drive through Clark Field and finish the destruction of the Allied force on Luzon. An amphibous landing in the south might be done to get in the rear of Manilla.

I suppose American morale must be at an all-time low now after so many defeats so they have decided to come out to defend Alaska. The American CV group is currently at Anchorage refueling. Dutch Harbor is strongly held by Japanese forces. In the middle is Kodiak Island, where two equal size forces are battling for control.

Hi, I must say I am very impressed. This is a normal Scenario 15 2 day turn PBEM?
I don't know how you are doing it. When you finish here would you care to try it again? Only I can't do 2 day turns. Too much of my playing style and planning methods are geared to 1 day turns.
I don't want to say "I see it but I don't believe it"
I think you have demonstrated you are in a class by yourself when it comes to organizing on a grand scale. I also don't want to be too hard on the Allied player. But I am stuck between a rock and a hard spot because I just can't see this happening to me.
I'll allow you to move the Japanese forces to any starting locations you want. (you'll have to send me the files before we begin since both players need the same data base. )
That should give you the freedom to not have to use the same plan again.

In exchange you declare where you want your surprise port attack. You can order port attacks elsewhere but I get to give orders everywhere except the surprsie port.

(In all my PBEM games currently under way I allowed the Allied player to give orders everywhere but PH) Other then that request you can do what ever you like.

It certainly helps that with the two day turns and day one/two port attacks on Manila, Singapore, and PH the bulk of the allied navy was sunk/damaged on day one. A good chunk of the dutch navy engaged and was badly hurt on the second turn. Essentially from then on the Jp invasion was operating with massive naval superiority.

Under the rules proposed by Mogami I think things would be dramatically different against even a marginally competant allied player.

Even in the current game it still appears an open question whether the auto-victory will be achieved. If not the heavy losses of JP shipping will begin to tell and result in an early allied victory.

Also I'm curiious. How is the JP Oil/Resourse situation at this point.

Hi, I don't want to create the wrong impression. I think the Japanese are losing the war in this AAR in a most dramatic fashion. However WITP_Dude has been very good at gaining objectives. But Japan's number one weapon has been badley hurt. (The IJN)
Remember the games victory conditions are simple
points ratio
4-1 in 43
3-1 in 44
2-1 in 45/46

The are no other victory conditions. The game lasts till one player gains the required ratio or they both run out of turns. (Most players would consider a draw a Japanese victory)

The game currently has only a 1-1! ratio. Japan will never win this game it's that simple.

Also the Allied VP are for destroying Japanese units.
The Japanese VP include a lot of points from bases. The base point values will switch sides before the game is over.

This plan only makes sense if it gains the required ratio to win since in the long haul it loses faster.

So I have offered WITP_Dude a chance to set his starting array the way he likes.
Port attacks across the Pacific with surprise were not possible. If Japans early morning attacks follow the rising sun Pearl Harbor would be attacked hours before Manila could be attacked. (In actual war Manila was aware of PH strike while it was still in progress)
Singapore would be hours behind Manila. That is why I say the Allies get to issue orders across the map. (Come on China is already at war why are they restricted?)
I can't do 2 day turns. This game could also serve to note the differences between 1 and 2 day turns since WITP_Dude is used to using 2 day turns in this PBEM.

I don't know where this idea that the two-day turns have so dramatically helped the Japanese comes from. This reminds me of the talking political spinmasters you see on the talk shows. Where are the objective people rather than the partisans? Can we have some objective analysis for once?

Hi, I don't want to create the wrong impression. I think the Japanese are losing the war in this AAR in a most dramatic fashion. However WITP_Dude has been very good at gaining objectives. But Japan's number one weapon has been badley hurt. (The IJN)
Remember the games victory conditions are simple
points ratio
4-1 in 43
3-1 in 44
2-1 in 45/46

Sorry, you seem to take Garry Grigsby's point system as the gospel truth. Let me explain a simple fact: it isn't. Under his system I could take San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angelos and still "lose" the war if several more carriers and battleships sink. On the other hand, if a Jap player just takes Port Mosebly, secures the Solomans, keeps their fleet intact, advances in China, hides all their Nates in Siberia, and completes the conquest of Burma, Malaya, and the PI they would win. Sure, the US surrenders under those conditions with hundreds of carriers in the pipeline. Right. What was Grigby smoking when he came up with these victory points?

So I have offered WITP_Dude a chance to set his starting array the way he likes.

I don't know how to use the scenario editor and move units around.

quote:

Port attacks across the Pacific with surprise were not possible. If Japans early morning attacks follow the rising sun Pearl Harbor would be attacked hours before Manila could be attacked. (In actual war Manila was aware of PH strike while it was still in progress)

Funny, I thought the airfields on Luzon were surprised. Didn't they get the same warning? The reality is Clark Airfield was not prepared for the strike so it's likely the harbor at Manilla is in a similar state of panic and confusion.

(Come on China is already at war why are they restricted?)

Hey, it is true Zeta couldn't move the first two days in China. However it is also true I didn't move for the first ten days! You want to allow both sides to be able to move in China starting December 7th? Fine by me, I'll get to Sian even faster.

I don't know where this idea that the two-day turns have so dramatically helped the Japanese comes from. This reminds me of the talking political spinmasters you see on the talk shows. Where are the objective people rather than the partisans? Can we have some objective analysis for once?

OK dont know if you would consider it objective but here is an analysis nontheless. Torpedo attacks at Singapore Naval base and Cavite Manila were NOT remotely possible. Never mind "NIGHT" time torpedo attacks, which is the only way a "SURPRISE" attack could have occured at those locations. Lets just hope that Pry's port attack "FIX" will be adopted in V1.3

You have proven that the decision to leave litterally dozens of Allied squadrons and LCUs either out or delayed from the historic reinforcement oob is a mistake. As is the artifical on NEI/Brit a/c delayed upgraded rule. Again as you have aptly demonstrated allows the Japanese player to delay the conquest of the SRA without fear of reprocussions.

Very nice work executing your plan

Regards

Hi, The airfields in PI were hit after the USAAF groups had landed due to a SNFAU not Japanese surprise. PI launched all aircraft in response to PH attack. Ships in Manila were underway hours before any Japanese strike could have arrived. Same for Singapore.
It was Dec 8 1941 in Singapore when it was Dec 7 at PH. Force "Z" Pow and Repulse were underway from Singapore before any Japanese port attack could have been directed against them in port.
Yes it is very easy to lose more taking a base then the base is worth in VP so what? Thats part of the problem with this plan in the first place. What good does it do Japan to conquer places but lose it's war making potentional in the process. Japan can kill it's self winning but that has been a problem military forces have always had to consider.
"Is it worth it"?

Long ago in testing we knew the Japanese could capture Pearl Harbor if they really wanted to. I never plan for it because I always answer that question "No it is not worth it"

As for 2 day turns, it's just not how I operate. I can't see the point of playing a game with detail and then cutting my influence in half and trying to quess what is going to happen in 2 days when I can just adjust to events as they occur not after they are over. I think it is an advantage in Naval combat in favor of the force that arrives undetected. Not only does it get that first day (same as in 1 day turns) but it gets a 2nd day as well (not going to happen in 1 day turns) But it's not really about advantage I just plan and play based on my having control every day. I do things in 1 day turns that I would never try in 2 day.
