I just used my first 2 A-bombs against the AI. (Very Hard AI Ver 1.2) and had some weird results.

I scored about 4k strategic bombing points for hitting Hirshima but only destroyed 3 manpower and 30 or so heavy idustary. Same thing for Nagoya. Interestingly there were no fires at all.

The combat report only listed 1 a-bomb hit and there was no graphic or sound effect.

I figured that this may be FOW so I sent tons of recon over the next week and nothing changed.

Does anyone know if this is a bug or is there another "Unpublished rule" that gives extra points for A-bomb attacks?

Yeah, I got tons of points too but didn't notice too much destroyed. (More than you though). It seemed to wipe out about 25% of everything in the hex. Destruction of production is really not important though. Only the points count and you get plenty of those.

Don't forget though-- if you drop more than 2 you will be shooting yourself in the foot. Each one past the second shifts victory one in Japan's favor.

I stoppped after 2. I followed the historical idea of leaving my targets untouched to be able to measure the full effects of the bomb.

It is hard to actually destroy any sort of industry in the game - basically as you cannot build new easily.. Most strategic points are scored for damaging industry. Now if you scored 4000 VPs for 1 A-Bomb then there is a lot of damaged industry that will never repair as Japan doesn't have the supplies to repair the effect of 1 A-Bomb even during the beginning of the game when they have a supply surplus... Despite you not destroying a lot of factories, you have effectively wiped out that city... At 1000 supplies per factory damaged it is impossible for Japan to rebuild even one of its major industrial cities without sacrificing all supply production for weeks - At best Japan produces roughly 30,000 supply a day throughout their empire -- thats only 30 damaged factories.... I'm sure an A-Bomb has damaged more than that... Figure 1 A-Bomb dropped equals a dead city... They may repair some of the damage, but not enough to be a threat again..

Can't say. There was no Jap fleet left to damage! I think I may have singed the paint on a few barges as that is all they have left.

Unknown if the ground units are glowing or not.

The weirdest thing is that there was no fire. I thought it would be burning for days.

There was a firestorm in Hiroshima after the initial explosion, but there was not in Nagasaki. These bombs are very small compared to the monsters that were tested during the 50's and 60's.

Out of curiousity (I have only played as the Allies and don't really understand the Japanese Economy):

In the real war, the Japanese ran out of raw materials and the destruction of factories by the US Air Force didn't limit production that much (they didn't have enough raw materials to run more than a fraction of their factories anyway, so losing a bunch of factories wasn't rate limiting).

In the game, by late 1944 are the Japanese so low in raw materials that only a fraction of their HI are producing supplies anyhow?

Does destroying one city's worth of HI decrease their total national production?

But there was residual radiation. Which would have and should effect troops which survive or are
brought in to the hex, IMO much much worse than Malaria effects in tropical locations.

Most of the radiation that effected anyone during the course of the war was the radiation that occurred the instant the bomb went off.

The lower level radiation might cause an increase in incidence of leukemia etc in the time range or 10 to 20 years after the exposure, but would not have had any effect on combat readiness of the units.

OK, I'll buy that for troops that are placed in hex after ABombing, but there should not be
any land units survive with any combat readiness remaining. As stated in previous posts in this
thread, I also believe this should have the effect of effectively killing the city for the rest of the
Witp game.
