At 30 mi/hex I assume units can occupy the same hex. Can any of the testers share some of the mechanics for ground combat such as: Is there ground combat every impulse for units in the same hex or does it only happen when one side chooses to attack? Is there a separate naval/air bombardment in the same impulse as an invasion if you have the forces present or is it all combined in one battle somehow? Are there any specific graphics or just a report of results? Thanks. elmo3

Just wondering if losses due to disease and starvation etc are shown(or modeled)at all? Lex Morton

They sure are. March in the jungle and you'll be fatigued. Units go disabled and then destroyed purely based on fatigue and supply situation. Joel

What I have observed, is that if there are enemy forces in a hex, the combat screen will automatically pop up. However, if neither side ordered an attack, there will be no combat resolved.

Naval and Air bombardment are resolved in separate turn phases.
As far as graphics, it is primarily text with a picture of your troops attacking as a backsplash, but it's interesting to watch what's happening.

Enemy in same hex may plot one of three attacks, Bombardment, Deliberate or Shock. It comes once a day at the end of the day, allowing any bombardments/air strikes during the day to soften up enemy first. Bombardment is just artillery, Shock doubles the odds making it easier to take a base or reduce fortification level but increases defense fire (which occurs before the odds calculation so this can be self defeating).
