WitP makes a columnist's head explode. Article basically complains that the game is too complex and detailed, lol.

Remember Slim Pickens on Bonanza - playing a character called "Muley?" That and "Blazing Saddles" were classics.

I thought that was the best part of the game personally.

Doing a review of it myself for SimHq. I actually had it written (almost) but decided to wait until 1.3 before I finish it and post it.

Well that guy they have replacing Trotter in PC Gamer said that wargame design has been going down hill ever since Panzer General...guess that tells you where the industry is headed.

Isn't CG magazine the old Strategy Games magazine that has gone through a few morphs to it's present form? Man at one time that mag was predominateley about war games.

It used to be called Strategy Plus.
They did a damn fine strategy guide for Second Front.
Shame they do reviews on a playstation now.

"Strategy Plus" was the ONLY mag I subscribed to in the early '90's,till they started pandering to the "lunchbox at recess" crowd..Then it went to "shoot-em ups" and "Doom" and "To the friggin' zoo with Elmo"(etc)..

I was in Paris last week and browsing a newsstand and saw a computer mag there that had some sort of WITP article, at least the name of the game was on the cover. Unfortunately, I know about 10 words of French so I didn't buy it!

(1) The item in question was not a review - it was the back page column, "Three-Finger Salute." It's usually a humor column, or makes its points using humor.

(2) He was simply observing that while he used to love super-detailed wargames that took forever to complete, he no longer does. It's a fair point, and one I have hard expressed by friends of mine that used to play these games back in high school, but have lost interest in them.

The thing that I *love* about WITP is its detail, though I don't like micro-management. The problem as it stands is that you really have to micro-manage everything. If only features like auto-convoy, auto commander selection, automatic Jap industry optimization, and AI taking over UK/China/Russia worked better/existed, you wouldn't need to pay so much attention to every little detail, which would make the game a lot better for "groglites" whose attention span approximates commercial breaks on MTV
