OOB Comments/Suggestions for Patch 1.4 "Official Scenarios Only"

OK Here we go again, Lets review the ground rules before we start

Please list Comments/Suggestions for the future 1.4 patch OOB and data base changes for the "Official Scenarios Only" here. Issues with player made scenarios need to be taken up with the scenario designer. Post comment/suggestion then take any discussion to the general forum. You all did a pretty good job last time of keeping the unnecessary comments out of the last thread for the most part, lets try to continue this.

Important Note… List issues here or in the support forum these are the only two threads that I will read on a regular basis, things mentioned in other threads will probably get missed because I do not have either the time or energy to read every dang post in this forum.

If you have a specific question about something that changed in 1.3 you can PM me or post a note in the general forum and I'll try to answer if I can as time allows but I will not be explaining the reasons behind each and every decision that was made.

I'll start a new requested change list so if you all want to list issues not addressed in the last patch again that is fine (I do have all the old stuff archived but if you want to bring it up again that is OK).

Just for review the following Issues are DOA and will not be changed in the Official Scenarios

Dead On Arrival (DOA) List

Item 1 Japanese submarine endurance will remain as is.
Item 2 Scenario 15 2nd USMC Division will remain as is.
(South Pacific HQ and available on turn 1)
Item 3 Composition of RN Carrier Groups will remain as is.
Item 4 Russian navy will not be added to game.
Item 5 CentPac and SWPac HQ will remain where they are in all Dec 7th and 8th starts, SouthPac and NorthPac have been relocated to PH
Item 6 Arrival of Beaufighter Mk21 will remain as is. (1/43)
Item 7 No change to performance of the I-16 Aircraft type, it will remain as is.

Ok take it away…

PLEASE!

This thread is for OOB issues ONLY! Pry does this on his own time and doesn't need to have to wade through a million messages that have nothing to do with OOB issues. Wait until you have 1.30 installed and see issues.

Is there any chance of reducing Russian reinforcement or is that DOA as well?

I'd like to see the USS Brookings (sentimental reasons - 'twas my Dad's ship)
Entry from NavyHistory.com:

APA Brookings (US transport)

Brookings is a county in South Dakota.

(APA-140: dp. 6720; 1. 455'; b. 62'; dr. 24'; s. 17.7 k.;
cpl. 692; a. 1 5"; cl. Haskell)

Brookings (APA-140) was launched 20 November 1944 by California Shipbuilding Corp., Wilmington, Calif., under a Maritime Commission contract; sponsored by Mrs. I. C. Johnson; acquired 5 January 1945; and commissioned 6 January 1945, Captain H. E. Berger In command.

Brookings was assigned to the Pacific Fleet and served with Transport Divisions 57 and 71 as flagship. She transported military personnel and cargo to various Pacific islands during the final months of war and to Japan, Korea, and China following the war's end.

Brookings arrived 25 April 1946 at Yorktown, Va., where she went out of commission In reserve 25 July 1946.
------------
Her commander should be rated pretty low. Although an Annapolis graduate, before he left harbor, he managed to shell (I think) San Diego during AA practice (later put down to a Japanese sub for some reason). Realizing he was about to get into a world of hurt, he hurriedly had his ship leave port - only to drag his partly retracted anchor and cut a submarine communications cable. He left without stopping to acknowledge this. As far as I know, the damage he caused was never officially discovered by the navy to have been caused by her (although I think it is remarkable that they had attributed to an IJN sub that late in the war), although the crew knew what had happened. She was involved in the later battles in the pacific.

Brady you had a message there this morning (my time).

Maybe you weren't specific enough. It was very general. You might need to break it up a bit and be more specific about each part.

Maybe. That's what I thought when I read it.

I admire your thoughts and willingness to speak up.

Question: Are Pilot OOB's considered in your OOB threads??? Specifically the big aces??? I dont really care much about all the little guys but it would be nice to see the most famous pilots where they were in the real war. Ive always wondered why Saburo Sakai does not start out with the Tainan airgroup in this game like he did historically. In the game he doesnt come into play until like 767 days with the F1/343rd Hikotai. He was part of what made the Tainan airgroup famous. Im sure there are numerous other big aces in the wrong places. Anyone else care to list some more??? Comments???

Make a list and post it to the new 1.4 thread and I'll see what we can do about moving pilot availability dates.

ok great thanks pry!!! anyone else want to give me a hand??? as a japanese fanboy ill be focusing specifically on japanese pilots right now. anyone interested in helping me with the japanese pilots or even better the allied pilots??? Id like to mainly try to just cover the big aces as it would take forever to do all pilots.

I will be editing this list along the way!

Yikes!

There's the 1.4 patch all in one post!

How many of those "Big Aces" were aces in December of 41?
That might be a more reasonable request.

In scenario 42B, is Chiang Kai-Chek really supposed to be in Delhi? And are the Chinese troops that are in the field (versus those in the cities) really supposed to have Delhi as their default objective?

This is the same in 1.30 as it was in 1.21.

Thanks -

how about giving the Clyde and Thames and Severn their own class cuz historically they were a totally differnt class than the S class they are depicted as in WITP. They were very long ranged for brit subs, Longer than T class if i recall correctly.

And if we can get some A class subs and maybe some Tench Class too

Add the 27th BG(L) and have it come into the game after 1 Jan 42 at Darwin equipped with A-24s, but with low morale & experience.

Drop the Lysander and Lockheed 212 from the a/c database and add the B-32 and F8F to any scenerios that go past the official end of the war.

It appears that none of the Marine F4F squadrons upgrade to the F4U. There was a detailed post in the old OOB thread that listed which Marine squadrons upgraded to the F4U and which ones to the F6F. I don't see the old OOB thread, so I can't copy the details.

I would like to see the USS Wakefield(AP 21) included in the game..It is the sister to the West Point and should arrive same day in all scenerios as they had just picked up Brit troops in Gb bound for Singapore.
Wakefield took a Jap bomb in Singapore and helped evacuate Brit civvies from Singapore immediately before it fell.
Later, the Wakefield carried the 2nd USMC Div to NZ..
(Obviously a major player to have been left out of both UV and WITP for this era?)...

The topic has been brought up about the liners that were used. There seems to be a few that are afraid they might be used for Amph assaults. Queen Mary in Tokyo harbor and that kind of drivel.

Also there is no way for them to be withdrawn after they show up. For some reason only RN ships can be withdrawn.

I've asked before but what the hell...

Can we get some sort of operations limitations added to ports/bases? For example, could there be a fixed number of actions (rearming, refueling) a given sized port can perform in one turn...at the moment a size one port can unload one ship or one hundred with no difference. This speeds up the game too much.

Can we also limit ammo replenishment for ships like is done with torpedoes, mines etc? Maybe a size 6 port without an AE...give them some useful role. I find it exasperating when a player runs massive BB TFs in and out of size one ports like belt fed ammo for a GPMG.

Oooh yeah... I second that. Another example of why it's fun for this game to be semi-historical: getting to play with all of these "toys" that didn't quite make it into the war. P-80s, anyone?

Bigger bombs for allies, please. If japanese Kate's can use 800 kg bombs why can't allies use 2000lbs
bombs. If only for very short range and/or percentage. I don't mind bigger than 2000lbs bombs
either, LOL.

HMAS Hobart (Ship number 3236) Is incorrectly listed as a Leander class cruiser (Class # 216). Should be listed as a Perth class cruiser (Class #228).

Class Arkansas (#172) incorrectly uses device #016 (12in/50 Mk 8 Gun). In real life, the Arkansas used a 12in/50 Mk 7 Gun (not in database).

Ship # 3217 London should be class # 203 London Rebuild. Instead it arrives as class # 1413 London, which is the standard London class CA, not the rebuilt version (of which only HMS London was a member.)

Single ship TF leaders on scenarios 15 and 16 should reflect the ship captain rather than staying without a TF leader, as it will get a random one from the pool:

TFs in this situation are:

3951 - S-39; recommend leader 7266 Coe
3960 - O16; recommend leader 18943 Bussmaker
3961 - KXI; recommend leader 18952 Deketh
3962 - KXII; recommend leader 18948 Coumou
3963 - KXIII; recommend leader 18953 Derkemsa
3964 - KXVII; recommend leader 18925 Besancon
3965 - KXIV; recommend leader 19081 van Groeneveld
3966 - KXV; recommend leader 18932 van Boetzelaer
3967 - KXVI; recommend leader 18984 Jarman
3968 - O19; recommend leader 19004 Kolling
3969 - O20; recommend leader 19049 Snippe

Also notice some real TFs without a leader; would recommend picking up one from the ship captains:

3912 - Dutch Surface
3913 - Dutch Surface
3914 - Dutch Surface
3519 - IJN Cruisers
3585 - IJN Transports
3589 - IJN Transports

Also notice this single-ship TF that has a leader which is not the ship captain:

3911 - Seaplane Tender, leader is 10132 Gilbert while the ship AVD McFarlane captain is 13514 Riordan

Tought I'd put this here as there are some possible errors with ver 1.3 scen 15 OOB. There maybe are several air units with the wrong group class size:

G1&2/Takao Daitai Hikotai 27 max a/c
F1&2/3rd D "
G1/Chitose D "
F1/6th D "
T1&2/1021st D Hikotai 36 max a/c
N3/332nd Chutai Daitai 9 max a/c
N3/352nd Ch "
A1/903rd D Hikotai 27 max a/c
A1/931st D "
All the Soviet TAP, RAP, BAP & IAP are listed as group but have 21 max a/c
3rd FS Section 12 max a/c
21st FS Group 24 max a/c
16th, 17th, 18th, 317th, 318th, 319th TCS are section with 16 max a/c
S4&5/9 RAAF are SOC3 Seagull should be Walrus?

I would like to see the inclusion of "Tiger Force" Lancaster bombers (British and Canadian) that were to have been sent to the Pacific to bomb Japan. As well, since the game can go into 1946, the inclusion of the 6th Canadian Infantry Division which was being formed in 1945 for the invasion of Japan. Said Division was to have been equiped with American equipment for supply reasons. Such an arrangement was made for the 1st Bn The Rocky Mountain Rangers which participated in operations on the Aluetian (Sp?)islands.

These subs were on overhaul on Dec 7, 1941 or entered overhaul just after. Recommend adding enough damage as the historical overhauling time (or change their availability date):

S-28 until Jan 22, 1942
S-27 until Jan 23, 1942
S-35 until Mar, 1942
S-34 until Mar, 1942
S-23 until late Dec, 1941
Gar until Jan 15, 1942

Do something about air strike packaging. As mentioned previously, squadron morale, unknown presence of enemy CAP etc should not determine what and how many aircraft attack, or if so, the player should have some sort of control over it at the base level. Perhaps a sliding scale for commitment (low/average/high). Nothing more frustrating than seeing a small % of your air assets attack an invasion force (if this is not vital I don't know what would be) while the rest sip tea.

Latest eg. Just pulled off a perfect undetected approach on an invasion hex with 2 amphib TFs in it with my RN CVs in mid June 42. Range 3 hexes, no foul weather. Only 1 squadron of Albacores out of 4 launch, with escort. WTF? There can be no reason for this. How can one simulate what should have been a full 3 CV load attack when the design is geared not according to the base/TF of origin but the individual whims of pilots and squadrons COs? What was the point of placing ships in harm's way if the reason for them doing so, the planned attack by the CV air groups, is not controlled by the player to some effective and useful degree?
