This forum has dried up recently, after the issue came up of altering the sequence of play for MWiF, and recent thoughts from Harry Rowland about Russia's vulnerability. Is it possible this game is just meant not to be? That would be so sad; let's get the interest level in here back on the upswing people!

I have decided to spend some time studying the rules so I will have a more informed opinion..( I haven't actually played in years). Better to think and talk than to talk and think (more than I have already).

Maybe some others are doing the same. This is still very early in the development cycle. Things will pick up.

One other thing to note. Subscriptions at groups.yahoo.games for wifdiscussion seem to have picked up. I recently joined and I think I saw someone note that they had crossed a 'milestone'.

Don't forget. Most of the WIF gamers have been waiting for this for yeeeaaars already. They won't get too excited until closer to release.

Yes, and that so many minutes is not nearly enough... sorry to seem impatient; I know this process is in the early stages. I guess I just seek reassurance that people are still thinking about it.

Russia is one of the toughest countries to play. They are not as vulnerable as people think. Now, the 2d10 combat system with modifiers can make it tougher. To successfully attack Russia, you only have to spot one major mistake, but to successfully defend Russia, you only need make no major mistakes. Which is easier?

Finally, Harry Rowland is an above average player, but one of his published defense of Russia allowed Germany to crack the river line in the south on impulse one with paradrop assisted blitzkriegs. In the Australian vs American Wif match he failed to take out Denmark as Germany and only incompetent allied play let Denmark fall at all.

I do not think you should take Harry as the final authority on strategy (although he is quite good). I have watched Alan Emerick toasted many times trying to defend Russia in Totaller Krieg, an excellent game he designed.

Finally, optional rules should can be added to benifit Russia. These are all my humble opinions.

MWiF is in the early stages but my notes on CWiF goes back to Version 0.0.30

Just to give you a time reference.

World in Flames.exe 0.6.0 full install came out 09/13/02.

Beta testing ended 08/03 or 9/03 when Matrix took over the game.

Just to show you where we were at...

Bug Reports for Version 0.7.61 (Note: 0.7.61 was not the last version of the beta. Submitors names have been removed due to lack of authorization to post them)

When a completely conquered Free France comes back into play, its relations with other countries will be incorrect.

Minor country air units may not be able to attack a hex when they should.

Countries controlled by Vichy France may be conquered when they should be liberated.

When a minor country controlled by Vichy France is liberated and returned to Free France, control of hexes occupied by Axis units is not changed correctly.
