I get some problem with those Indians too...
Do they really have elephants or they get a secret war machine:armored mammoth...

Always look to the objectives for some hints. <nudge, nudge, wink, wink>

one way of winning militarily is to avoid taking them head-on across a broad front. those elephants in mass can rip you up. Try to split the indians up and get them moving toward you. break up their lines and the battle will be much easier. the Hydespes scenario is very hard and hopefully you will learn to curse those darn elephants!

there are one way,

leave your infantry at the start position
put in the left your light cavalry, leave your best cavalrymen for the right.
send your left cavalry to the left flag. normaly you have time to reach the objective.
then retreat

the right flag is more difficult, specialy because of the ambush.
I have prefered to go directly again the ambush.
so I didn't try to get this second flag immediatly.
normaly you must be able to destroy completly the indian cav because if they retreat they are eliminate.
after that you must bipass the chariot. don't attack then.
after you must be able to come back to the flag and get it by the rear.

then go directly with all your cavalry again the center.

with some good tactic you could also bipass the indian chariot and elephant at the right and so attack the center by a double flanking attack.

that nothing to do with alexander tactic but I thing it's the only way to win again those indian.

Thanks 2gaulle,

that's an interesting tactic even if it is a quite strange one in regards of the tactics applied at this time by the Greeks.
I am going to try that at once.
Merci beaucoup.

BTW I would like to ask another question about the Gaza battle.Have you been able to grab the three flags before acheiving a major victory.Although I have been able to get a major victory (Egyptian army broke the battle) I failed in reaching those objectives. My tactic was to use my 2 light cavalry units in order to reach by bypassing enemy units these flags asap while the rest of my army was engaging the enemy.Unfortunately I have played this battle several times and have never succeeded in grabbing the 3 flags (only one in my hand).
Any thought or suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I am definitely a wargamer, but who is always looking for the perfect battle...the best result...the winning tactics...by limiting my losses as much as possible and grabbing every flags in order to get the most budget I can to refit and improve my army for the next battle.I have always a Cornelian choice between training my units and purchasing cards...I objectively prefer to improve my unit level instead of buying cards which could give an hypothetical result...just a question of taste!

The last time I played Hydespes I tried sending cavalry down both flanks and refusing the center. I got a few units behind the Indians, but I did not get enough there to defeat their reserve and capture the third flag. I will try it several more times, eventually I should be able to get it to work. I may need to avoid more combat with the cavalry or change the weighting to one flank or the other.

Thanks for the suggestions all.

Alexander defeated the army of the Indians, finally, by grabbing all three flags. The first two are easy, but that last one, whew! I though I waited a turn too late to advance the infantry up the middle, but it worked out. Now on to Bactria!
