Yep.....the General forum is for gaming and military history.........all other topics need to head over to AOW/Mad Cow forum at Vinny and Doggie's place.

Is there a cap on what is considered to be military history, as in a certain date after which we are not allowed to discuss [say, everything goes, but only up to the end of the Cold War?]

Or is the issue the kind of rhetoric used? As in "Man, if I had 144 billion" or "Man, if I had 200 Me-262s"? [Rather informal-ish, or something of a 'goofy uninformed punk viewpoint', if you will]

Or is there an unspoken rule banning discussion of what it would take to defeat the US?

Thanks for your attention, I hope not to participate in any thread getting locked in the future.

If people can have a military discussion without going into the political "finger pointing" like typically occurs with jabs like "Must be nice to have endless amounts of money"... Worthwhile contribution to the topic would include a comparison of the % of GDP spent in various wars by various sides.

Or what is the potential cost of NOT acting. In military terms.

If you want to engage in a military based discussion of how to defeat America, you can try, but I doubt it can be done without appealing to the "fact" that America is evil and deserves to lose or similar rancorous drivel.

If discussion can be had without such inflammatory rhetoric, then maybe we could - but such seems not to be the case.

The Iraqi insurgent thread seems to be staying away from such for now.

There are those that seem to feel Mad Cow's steakhouse is "beneath them". Too bad. They might learn a a thing er too over there. And have some fun.

IF you post a serious topic there you get serious discussion. Those there do not suffer fools gladly though...

That is why everyone is scared to venture there. They get chewed up and spit out.

There is no where to run or no one to hide behind and cry to once the chewing starts.

Only if they spout indefensible rubish.

There are scores of thread with excellent discussions of controversial things where actual logical arguments are made, challeneged, and defended.

Those used to posting political claptrap and defending it with "anyone who questions this is a neocon cretin", indeed get chewed up and spit out.

And there are those who there who do just make "drive-by flamings" - but anybody with an ounce of backbone can simply ignore those...

I will start a thread on the closed topic over there for anyone that actually is interested in exploring it factually...

Well, I think that most of us have done a good job of steering away from that 'fact'. I myself would rather not discuss that particular issue, but I see no harm in a few people voicing their concern over it. I might disagree with people who openly state in the forums that all nazis, commies or fundamentalists are outright evil [and get away with it] but I really don't mind them. If people can state they are glad the Germans were defeated in WW2, that Hiroshima was bombed and that the US won the Cold War, I guess it would be fair to allow others to state they would be glad if the US was forced to withdraw from islamic territories.

Well, my threashold is differenet from yours or someone elses - debates over whose trumps whose being the reason we spun anything remotely resembling a political discussion to the Steakhouse.

There is a range of "levels of moderation" from the mostly sane discussion to the completely unmoderated vulgarity and bathroom humor of the outhouse.

But one must be willing to often ignore form, to dredge out substance.

Basically - threads are allowed to continue here until someone bitches, or a mod decides it has "turned for the worse".

An alternative, is also to just pick a different forum entirely.

Warfare HQ has a good crowd.

Battlefront has a political forum

And those are just two choices.

Other than those suppposedly (I ain't buying it) "capable" jerkwads over at MadBullshit and Pukehouse (yes I enjoyed saying it that way, get over it).

Or of course, you can just stick to talking about the minutae involved in actual existing or planned wargames, and accept that the real world ain't always a good choice of discussing everywhere.

Yeah, we could alway go play at a closed "invite" only forum like Daves. Where if you say something out of line with the majority of the 30 members or so you get banned.

Les,

you snipe as much as anybody, bring some where you can not hide behind a mod.

Being one of those "capable" jerkwads...feel free to show me the error of my ways...

Ah, far easier to deride from a distance. Your loss.

For anyone else who won't be detered by the "enlightened" as to what to do and where to go, an eccletic group awaits...

Gee Less not overly fond of the fact that people know the games you play?

It really saddens me that you have to hide behind Vic's slacks like Erwin making one or two inflammatory posts before a thread is locked.

You owe it to yourself and your (imagined) fans to come let it all hangout eh?

Now, now, Les showed his disdain for a place featuring free and open debate. If he doesn;t want to go there that is his business.

Locking before a pig pile ensues...
