Hi folks this is my attempt to write up my forthcoming struggle against RunsilentRundeep

we're using two day turns ( we want to finish the game)

Allied damage controll on
Japanese sub doctrine off
Allied sub doctrine on

Its a No look AAR so we can discuss forward plans

My original plan when hearing about war in the pacific was to explore some theories of mine about the war specifically I wanted to find out

A) if a Japanese offensive vs allied supply lines could have worked
B) should the Japanese have invaded pearl harbour
C) in the light of history where should the japanese put their main effort

now A seems to have floundered on rather too good allied ASW - Ill try it out with picket lines in mid Pacific plus cruiser raiding forces but Im not expecting too much success. Later in 1942 if I win a carrier battle I will try Carrier raiding forces into the mid pacific

and B seems to have floundered on inflexable japanese set up If you could end up at the end of december the 7th with a sizeable invasion force at least half way to pearl suprising things could have been achieved Capture the big island & blockade Pearl untill you can invade however it takes two much time to get your force to Pearl

C) so I am trying an alternate doctrine Basically I am putting my effort into cutting Supply lines betwen the US and Aus everything else apart from capturing the DEI is just smoke and mirrors

This I hope will delay the start of the US counter attack untill he can match me at sea say mid 43
when things will become less fun

Cheers

Game turn the first

Malaya

Instead of Trying to land one base down from Khota Batu as I usually do I'm gomg for a very conservative Japanese Landing at the two bases in Lower Siam and steamrolling my way south with help from Imperial Guards et al The good thing about this is that if he does strip his forces I can try a landing on East coast of Malaya anyway

This also lets me land another Invasion force in NW borneo to Isolate Singapore from Resupply and prepare for my invasion of Java & Sumatra

The invasion goes well He has withdrawn his airforce to Singapore and George town I'll punish this concentration on GT 3

Philippines

Usual Invasion I am however Stripping one of the Divisions and some support forces for my southern strategy so I expect things to go a bit slower here however I still expect to capture Batan by the end of february Interestingly he is leting his fighters stay around and fight it out (he dispersed them on turn one) Good.

Southern DEI

Invasion force lands at Ambonia this GT with follow on forces for Kendari or Timor (not decided yet) Small CV's mey be able to cut off supply ships from going south before They get to Aus while my air power builds up.

Pearl Harbour

Hmm The Garrison stages a bit of a counter attack and send out lots of Tomahawks etc this seems to happen under I.3 compared to 1.2 anyway My fighters rack up a bit of a score but for some reason only 13 fighters go with the bombers to Pearl on day two which means that some of the fighters get through to the bombers I still lose more planes to flack though ! but this cancels my favourite tactic of striking at the Repair yards on days 3 & 4

However KB has gots lots of places to go so its back to Kalwejian (and to ensure the success of my wake island invasion) to refuel & resuply and escort the Rather large Convoy building up in Japan on its final stages.

Home front

In many ways the most interesting sector Ive used a lot of PP's to change assignment of floatplane squadrons so they can dominate the sea between Japan and the Philippines and later south through
Io Jima

in terms of Ships I've Halted the Yamamoto and her sister ships so I can concentrate on useful production Ive accelerated all early carriers DDs and Subs that appear in the first year and doubled Zero Production) If anyone could tell me where they make Mavises I would increase their production as well

China

Plans to take Changsa then Sian then clear the railroad should be finished by end of february !

Cheers

Sorry if this seems vague Im writing this up from memory on a different computer

GT two 9 & 10th December

The American carrier fleet has attacked the liberators of Tarawa but out of fear of my Air power he dare not come close enough to attack effectivley two minor craft destroyed but the amphibious force survives

This is a complete srew up actually by some calamity the base force arrives first then gets attacked befort the invasion force gets there, Ive moved my fighters south and increased the range of my Bombers so that he will get a suprise if he continues the attack

Interesting that he worked out exactly how far my fighters could fly and based his carriers just outside the range I suspect RSRD of carefull thought.

Victory south of Pearl Harbour

for some reason he has a rather large convoy heading south from pearl, It can only be reinforcements for the south pacific however Nagomo sinks the a CA and CL and damages a few DD's

Ambonia and kendari Invaded

another screw up

I forgot to cancel my amphibious fleets orders (a few 1500 ap's) and they rushed straight on to Kendari Only took ond bomb hit on the run in two, I expect I'll see The royal navy bombarding here soon so my carrier will loiter a few hexes away just in case

Ambonia ... The landing force stiil has not attacked more order screwups i expect.

Wake invaded

My slightly beefed up wake invaion force still does not capture wake no more fortifications though I expect I'll take it next turn interesting how much more the non prepared force has suffered compared to the prepared one....

NW borneo ( Kendari I think)

Invasion completed, no RN intervention but shock attack on day one fails to take it, Then for some reason only the NLF with which I intend to hold the place attacks on the second day ! beheadings all round

Task force south loads up and heads south for their holiday in the sun Fiji or bust !

the 2nd division plus 16th corps HQ Heavy artillery, Engineers, special base force an aviation regiment
and some airfield constructors.

I intend to take all the small islands between Fiji and Canton Island and fight this out in the south Pacific as far away from his land based air power as I can. It gets more difficult If he realises, Hence the heavy ground forces. But his naval forces can't stop me in 1942.

cheers

Good luck matey.

I think you'll find Mavis production somewhere in the western end of the Home Islands. You can look it up in the Intel screen anyway.

Cutting the US->Australia supply line - I am coming round to the view that this is an expensive waste of time:

a) Unless you take New Zealand you can't actually stop ships getting through, all you can hope for is to delay them.
b) Australia produces a reasonable surplus of supplies on its own, you can't starve it out.
c) How are you going to stop the Allied player supply Oz from India?

Hmm

I dont think I can starve Australia out I just want to make it impossible to mount a serious offensive from Australia

Dunno yet about supplying Australia from India, but it should be easy to raid such a supply line.

The principle would be to make it as expensive as possible to convoy to austrailia,
Make every convoy a fleet operation with carriers.

we'll see,

I suspect This would force a central pacific attack which I hope to delay as long as possible
In late 43 I expect to devote my carrier fleet to convoy raiding.

(no point in attacking us carriers with them)

Cheers

so basically your goal is to make the Pearl-Oz line a "Malta-Run"
