How hard would it be to do a modern era mod for this game. I haven't checked out the editor yet, but i was thinking that it might be possible.

What are the problems that you guys see with that kind of mod?

I'm thinking CGN era. Like maybe 1982 or 1983.
Hypothetical. USSR, China, and India enter into a Strategic partnership(hmm, kinda like today's headlines) a little early, to take over Japan and Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea, and eventually Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, and then the Pacific, leading up to and invasion of the US west coast.

What would be the hardest thing to model?

Help appreceiated.

Also how hard would it be to not have production , ie be a factor, ie not be controllable?

I think that the Harpoon game series has already done this.

Hey genius,

Harpoon is a tactical game. I want a game like North Atlantic 86.

I'll be happy with the pacific theatre tho.

I want a strategic contemporary game.

Harpoon 4 is torpedoed.

Fleet Command will not work on XP for me.

Anymore ideas?

Go to Windows 98? LOL(j/k).

Seriously, I doubt that WitP could simulate modern weapons, because you'd first have to rip out missiles, CIWS, Satellites, nuclear submarines, and modern weapons, that right there limits the game to really no later than 1955. And in 1955 the only major navies to speak of were the US, UK, and Soviet Submarine force.... I just don't see it as being feasible.

That said, a Korean era scenario might be possible, but with limited naval combat.

The engine wouldn't support it -- I think you'd give WiTP an aneurysm trying to make a modern scenario... But good luck if you want to try it with the editor.

I think the only possibility would be the Korean war-like scenario. The technology isn't too modern for the WW2 period and could be fitted in the game together with the late war equipment. The Sabres and MiG15s can be included much more easily then an F15. Put in the necessity of the whole game to have a hypothetical prefix to it (due to Japan's importance to the game itself) and you have a great game. Put USSR, China and Japan against the rest of the world. Give the Russians some navy, Japs some late 40s development ideas (maybe some wild planes, a few ships, kamikaze generals...) and give China a LOT of infantry and go. Last one to the PI is and icky, icky spider...
