Artillary is badly, badly, badly (...and so on...) modeled in this game. Artillary is essentially modeled so that if the forces are roughly balanced then no damage is done. So if both sides have 100 guns, there will be no damage, despite 100 cannon being fired. Same thing for 1000 guns on both side. But if one side has more guns than the other, the side with the greatest number of guns gets to score some casualties.

And don't let anyone bluff you with the @#$%^ "60 mile hex" argument. Land combat is supposed to model two LCUs fighting, and ground units don't spread out over all possible space - they bring force to a given location.

Just add this to LCU movement idiocy, along with the inabilibity of air power to do anything reasonable on land troops, and you have a trio of things that make land combat in this game frustrating.

I think that the fundamental problem with land combat in WitP is that it was designed with Pacific atolls first and foremost in mind. So the Devs remembered Wake and Tawara and Saipan and Iwo Jima, and then they forgot about the dynamics of mainland warfare. It would have been nice if GG could have been gotten drunk or something and talked into adding the sort of land combat routines/rules that he puts in his Eastern Front games instead of the current mess that we have.

No, the 60 mile hex nonsense is part of the equation. You can't have a pitched battle everytime a fight occurs over that space. Sometimes only a few elements will be involved in the actual battle.

You're using a lot of night attacks. Very effective till now, wouldn't it be wise for Zeta to put on some night CAP?

I don't know if the Soviets have any night fighters.

Nope the Russians have none, and becasue of the bug I will not try to night CAP much of any where.

Zeta, you really need to be bombarding with those Russians. They are killers with artillery. Especially up at Blag (sp?). You can rack up 1000 or so casualties every bombardment.

I have been trying but it is not doing much. The first several turns it did OK, but the last few turns it has not caused much harm to him. Some times I haved noticed as Japan or the allies I set things to bombard and they do nothing. Oh well it does not matter much. It's hard to stop a quater of a million men. I don't mind that he is destorying the russians, I just wish movement would be a little slower.

Holy Molly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have gutted the Japanese navy's combat force!!!!!!!!!! Do you even have an active fleet CV left in action? Because from the list it looks as though you have nothing left. The Allied navy should be able to sail anywhere they want to go. All the ground combat forces mean nothing if you can not sail them to where they are needed.

1944 looks to be interesting as Zeta parks 10 CV's off Japan and commences to slaughter whats left. I have yet to lose a single Japanese CV in any of the PBEM games I have going. I have lost the odd CVL/CVE though. Even against Panzer where 2 of my CV's and baby KB took on 5 Allied CV's in 3 actions over 2 days. Of course I only have 1 fleet CV left not in the paint and body shop. But geez, all of them lost. I see no hope for you Dude.

Hrm.... it seems to me a good number of Japanese pilots will be sacrificing themselves as Kamikazis....

If I was your opponent I wouldn't care less how many carriers you had at the beginning of 1944. Your Zeros are junk, once you decide to fight I'll sink all of your carriers anyway. I'm not too worried about the predictions though.

How does the Kamikazi option work? I will put them to good use.

Hrm.... it seems to me a good number of Japanese pilots will be sacrificing themselves as Kamikazis....

How does the Kamikazi option work? I will put them to good use.

As I understand it, once the Allies get within 10-15 hexes of Japan, you can convert airgroups to kamikazes. Then, on naval attack, they fly out, and I assume smack into the ships. Haven't gotten that far though.

It should be useful as Zeta will have to invade the islands to win because all of Asia will be under Japanese control. I wonder if the game gives additional reinforcements to Japan for the invasion. They planned to arm all the civilians IIRC.
