I like those bombardment casualties though. With that many people on Midway, one grenade will kill 20-30 people.

Several IJN battleships and heavy crusiers sneak into same hex with US carriers at Midway. They refused to fight. What a waste of an effort.

You know, this is absolutely nuts - there isn't room for 64,000 people on Midway, and if you did happen to fit them all there, you would need to have them all standing packed next to each other.

Dave Baranyi

Wrong. It is not absolutely nuts. Consider Betio. Betio is approximately 290 acres. In the course of the battle for Betio there were 35,000 US troops committeed and 4,800 Japanese. That roughly 40,000 men. 139 men/acre

The two largest islands in the Midway Atoll are Eastern and Sand Islands (both of which housed the base's facilities back in WW2). Eastern Island is approximately 320 acres and Sand island is approximately 1,280 acres, for a grand total of about 1,600 acres (maybe a little less than this). So if there were 64,000 men on both islands that would be 40 men/acre.

If we were to use Betio as the upper limit of what an island could contain for short periods of time, Eastern & Sand island could conceivably contain 220,000 men. I will grant you that in WITP a player could concievably pack 500,000 troops on Midway (or Betio for that matter). I do not believe the game prevents this. But a player that did that would be a complete idiot (there's no sensible reason to do that), so there is no need for a mechanic to prevent it.

Once again, before you attack the developers for something that you beleive to be "nuts," get your facts straight.

The land model is NOT broken in situations like this. It does fine with atolls and islands.

jnier,

I've wondered about that issue with all the comments that have appeared. Thanks for bringing some facts to it.

Well if you consider the japanese habit of digging out tunnel I guess you can double the capability of certain islands ;)

Netherless just calculating the actual superficy of the island isn't telling, what we need to know is the actual MEANINGFULL superficy, that is not already occupied by other feature.

Another element is the way troups are deployed for combat duty. You can pack 50.000 spectator in a footbal arena, but there is only 25 people on the grass running ( a bit more for your US Footbal fans :p ). War is pretty the same thing, there is a limit on the people able to conduct operation on a front, and this limit is far small than the number of people that can just stand there.

You can put all the humans that ever walk the earth into the Victoria lakes without raising his level a full centimeter... But crowd just your entire town on a beach and you will find it unlivable.

Crunching numbers is limitless, arguing on simulation systema in limitless...

But some things need to be reworked:
- Bombardement is NOT ratio related but volume related: Simple fix: 1.000 guns firing = 150.000 Tons of explosive power delivered = 1500 x 100 kg air bombs applied to the hex. square and flat. ( I know my maths are wrong but I wanted to show the logic, not the exact ratio of conversion for each step... ).

The math that I find interesting is the victory conditions. Dude needs a 3 to 1 lead in 1944 to win. That means he'll need around 75,000 VPs (a gain of about 25,000 -- are there enough in India to provide that?) to cover what Zeta has already. With Zeta picking up Pacific bases, Dude will need to add more than that.

To win in 1945, he only needs 2 to 1, but by then the Zeta should have established his bases in the Marianas and be bombing the hell out of Japan. One of Dude's weak point - his pilots suck and his planes are out of date -- will be very telling there as Zeta builds up strategic warfare VPs.

Then, if he can isolate Japan, there is the issue of supplying Japanese armies in China/Russia/India. It isn't simply a question of supplyng Japan, but rather of Japan supplying the field armies. Once Zeta gets a blockade on the home islands in place, Dude's troops in the field will be in trouble -- fighting at 1/4 strength in places where the Allies can bring overwhelming force to bear locally. If Zeta can put 6 divisions on Midway now in late 1943, he can put 10+ divisions into Singapore, Diamond Harbor, Formosa or wherever in 1945.

A question -- if Zeta could liberate a portion of the western USSR with US troops, would a lot of new Russian reinforcements come online all at once in the liberated supply hexes?

The Japanese control quite a bit of supply production on the Asian continent now (over 50 resource locations). I may move my capital from Tokyo to Chungking or Mukden soon. Let the Americans have Honshu, who needs it anyway?

I figure Calcutta might be a good central spot

Midway is worthless, let the Japanese troops there alone. Start going after some valuable targets before you lose the war.

Well That was way to much work to take Midway, The shock attack is a killer for the landing troops. I could land in Russia but I wiould need to get all the way to Isturk to get any troops back, no way I get there. I have a plan for India, it will go into action at the right time. It will work becasue of my navy and air force, it may not when the war but will save me a lot points. I am bulding supply and fuel in OZ, and have American and British Carrier groups there. I have a lot of assult points there to work with have moved a ton of planes there. I get a few more division in the next couple of weeks that will be put to good use soon. I will put up some stats soon, and break down ship loses a little.

I will but it sucks to have this behind your lines. I can't recon it from anywhere and my PBY's and search planes can't spot a tjhing more than a hex or two away. Thank god there are only a few more atolls left to attack. My BB's don't hit crap when the bombard. Look at the AAR's my ships seem to suck at this.

I don't think I will lose on points before the end of 44. That gives me a lot of time. Once he takes India, where we will not get as many popints as he thinks. He is going to have a hard time getting a lot of points. He will have no big land battles to fight and by the time India falls I think I will be in good shape to keep him from deploying those troops to other places.

The troops in India will be able to redeploy to China or Siberia using the railroad. The Allies can attempt a landing in the mainland but they need to be prepared to quickly send in multiple divisions to support the beachhead. Otherwise they will thrown back into the sea.

I mean redeployment to Islands and such. That is going to be the hard thing for him to do. I have no chance to ever take a mainland base. I don't think I can take a Island base with a lot of troops becasue with the new version i think it is very hard to starve them out and to hurt anything with naval bombers. I am attacking PH withn a lot of heavy bombers and they are not gettting many hits. So it is going to be tuff to take places like Saipan where no heavy allied bomber can reach them. Naval air just does not do the trick and by bombardments have not done much.
