I have never experienced a CTD with WITP before I upgraded to 1.4. About 50% of the time I get a CTD when exiting the "save file screen".

Anyone else experiencing similar CTD's?

Several have reported this lately. In my experience, I saved my game in a new unused spot then exited the game then deleted all other save games from the folder then restarted game reloading the new savegame. Worked for me as I haven't had any CTD's since then so my assumption it some kind of data corruption thing on save games using slots that have been reused over & over with different patches.

Didn't work for me. I also get some CTD's in the ship selection screen when I exit.

The CTD in the intel ship screen is well known and not new. ALWAYS save the game before entering the intel screen.

It seems to be a little random, but that is my work around for it.

I have experienced 1-2 CTD with a file save - fortunately it occurs AFTER the save when i hit the "exit" button. Nothing like a 50% crash rate, though.

Usually (at least for me) this occurs when you hit the "BACK" button instead of the "EXIT" button in the intel screen. At least for most players. Workaround is try to remember to hit the exit button instead.

I have become sufficiently paranoid though, that i use a belt-and-suspenders approach (similar to yours) and usually save the game and enter the intel screen only toward the end of the turn. This way, even if my brain screws up and cliks the wrong button (it happens!! ) i still have the turn.

It happens to me and is very annoying. It did not happen in 1.3.

I habitually use the escape key instead of the back button. I've had the CTD using escape in Intel, and now (like some others who have posted) I have also had it using escape in the save game screen.

I must VERY lucky. I have yet had the game CTD, and I often use the BACK button and save every other turn.
[OS: XP/SP1 and WIN98SE; applied paatches when they come out. Haven't defrag]

Why is it so hard to type properly on these forums!!!

To date I had not written one really bitchy thing in this forum. BUT....all good things must come to an end. Nothing and I mean NOTHING makes me more grumpy than game crashes. Since I upgraded to 1.4 I can go about 5 saves before the damn thing craps out. I have tried rotating the save spots, deleting the previous saves. Makes no bloody difference.

I can live with the disapearing leaders, the clunky land combat system, the auto convoy system not working worth a damn. But when the game constantly crashes.....I am not a happy puppy.

BTW...fix the damn Ohka's too !

Right after going to v1.40 I began experiencing the "Back Button CTD", where I'd never had a single CTD before. Started doing weekly disk cleanup and de-frag, daily spy-ware hunts, and re-booting before loading WitP; I have not had a single CDT since (ohh, did I just screw myself there or what?!).

I had the same CTD about 10-20% of the times.
Since I tried this approach no more: after saving I select a different slot and wait a couple of seconds, than hit ESC. Never had the CTD again. But maybe it's just by chance.
Also, I play WitP on two different PCs, Toshiba Satellite 2 years old, 2.4 pentium, nVidia graphic card, very slow Combat saves, never crashes, NEVER.
Brand new PC with Pentium IV 3.2 and nVidia 6800 ultra. It freezes AlWAYS several seconds during combat actions, crashes on 'back' from ships, and did CTD from save. At least it is 3 times faster
