ORIGINAL: Danny Boy Guys, Out of the options for solo play vs AI which games do you find most rewarding? Advance, assault, defend etc? I am spending a lot of my time at the moment putting a few scenarios together. I spend aaaages designing and building a map, lovingly trying to make everything look wonderful (or be historically accurate) while trying to make the terrain and features play an important part for any scenario developed to play on it. Then I get to think about the core forces of each side, reinforcements, rty ops, paradrops etc etc. Then I put it all together and its as booooring as hell. Anyone care to let me know which type of AI game is best. I have tended to stick to the (supposed) tried and tested method of Assault vs Static defence but the AI never seems to be able to spring any surprises. Any thoughts? Cheers! Hi Danny Boy. Most computer-generated battles or campaigns against the AI get pretty predictable. The AI always follows the same put all the troops in the middle, run mines along the entire board strategies and after awhile you learn that if you run up the side you can pretty much have your way with the AI. If you design your own battles, then you have the disadvantage of knowing where the enemy forces are. A better solution is to find user-created campaigns and scenarios that set the AI defense in locations that A) you are not aware of, and B) in ways that anticipate your attacks. However, the AI is still the same limited AI you are fighting in the computer-generated battles so adaptability won't be one of it's strong points. It sounds like you need the challenge of a PBEM or online game. A human would react and adapt to your strategies much better than the AI would. If you post a message to the opponents wanted forum, I'm sure you'll find some takers. If you haven't done a game against a human previously, you might want to be sure that you don't play against too wiley a veteran. There are some guys out there that will work with you. If you do a search on newbies or something like that, you can find those message threads. Hope this helps.
