It just hit me but...

Shouldn't Allied pilots get out of the pool after they complete 30 or 40 missions ? Or is it just for Bomber crews ?

Perhaps getting a brand new pilot every 30 mission will really help slowing the bomber frenzy in this game ;) Of course it could help the japanese side, somewhat, but considering their attrition rate in bomber not by much...

IIRC (I don't have the reference at work[Havoc]) the 30 mission thingie applied mostly to the ETO. The way I understand it, the attrition was such that the brass could not count on pilots lasting more than the 30 missions, so they just took them out of the line. Pilot attrition seemed to be lower in the PTO, also the distances being much longer and so.
If my memory serves, the piolets stayed in theater until they requested to leave, which they could do after 50 missions or so. Apparently often it was the flight surgeons who "suggested" to the pilots to apply for transfer.
Again, I am going by what the author whose name escapes me reported in "Havoc"

I think the game does rotate out pilots, at least for the allies. Most of the top pilots on my list are from AVG with 90-99 experience. Most are 'alive', meaning no MIA, KIA, etc. noted. None of them are with the AVG now - it has an average experience of about 61 - all much newer pilots.

I believe pilots lost drop off the "top pilots" list after a while.
