Several Forum members are combining their efforts to produce a new scenario for War In the Pacific. This will be a full war scenario, based on the standard Scenario 15, with a possible extension into 1946. Attention will be paid to historical accuracy and detail. It has previously been referred to as “Ron Saueracker/Tankerace/Don Bowen's Mod“.

The scenario will be based on two “released” modified scenarios (Lemurs, Andrew Brown) and several others that have been completed for earlier WITP versions. It will feature a new map (Andrew Brown), tons of new artwork, many new ship classes and aircraft types, expanded Orders of Battle, and adjusted land unit Table of Organizations.
We hope to merge the best of everyone’s work to produce an accurate and playable scenario.

A number of threads are being opened to group comments in different areas (devices, aircraft, artwork, etc). Please post in the most applicable one.

Please post comments on all Game Artwork in this thread.

Latest efforts. The file you see is a JPEG, not a BMP. So don't go trying to DL it and expect it to work. Some image quality IS lost in the conversion. I assure you the BMP is much clearer. Any suggestions or requests are desired. Art is easy and non-committal. Programming additions is difficult and final.

In no particular order...

-F8F, F7F, Fireball, Seafire III, P-47C RB, P-40B, AVG P-40B, -Thunderbolt II in RAF colors, P-39, P-26 and F6F.

Note the underwing rockets on the Jug Hard to tell from this JPEG, I know

-Added B-25C in 345th Bomb groups "Air Apaches" Markings. Look closely!

-F4F-4 Wildcat, Mig-3, Yak-3, and SB-2. I-16 USSR, I-16 China
B-17D
Beaufighter x 2 not sure which I like Green or Yellow/green. Thoughts?
FM-2 Wildcat, F4U-1D, TBF Avenger, SB2C-3 Helldiver, Boomerang, Hurricane, Dauntless, Chinese P-43 Lancer

A-20B, A-20G, TBD Devastator, Barracuda, Firefly, F4U-1A, Fleet Air Arm Hellcat II, Updated USN F6F, Vultee Vengeance I, Fairey Fulmar, PR.IX Mosquito, FB.VI Mosquito

P-51D Pretty boring isn't it?

***NEW P-80A*** Just in case it is added to the CHSM

New to the CHSM:
*** Sea Hurricane***
*** P-47N***

Hi everyone. The Ship icons in the game will come from three sources.

1. Standard Artwork from Matrix
2. Tankerace's upgrade (available from Spooky's http://mathubert.free.fr/ )
3. Our additions.

I would like to begin distributing preliminary copies of our additional artwork within a couple of days. I do not have access to an FTP server. Therefore, I propose creating one or more zip files with a size less than 1 meg and emailing them to everyone working on the game. If anyone has an FTP server, or a better idea, please let me know.

There are quite a few more icons I want to add and many of the ones already created have scaling problems or are flat out lousy. Help appreciated.

I would like to get the side and shil icons mostly completed within 10 days, aircraft artwork soon after. We can make minor adjustments to individual bmp files after that. I would like to have preliminary versions of the scenario in the hands of the contributors this month (in programmer's terms, this month in just before midnight on the 31st). Zipped versions of the scenario can be easily emailed.

Comments??

Looking for some input on what direction we are going with aircraft additions. In the meantime I am continuing work on the improvement of current aircraft. When we get a definite list of new aircraft I will begin work there.

Lemurs,
What are some of the aircraft from youir Scenario that we KNOW will be in this one too? I am under the assumption that yours is the foundation of this effort.

Any thoughts? Mike? Don? Ron?

I am figuring on deferring to more air-craft oriented folks on most aircraft details. As to additions, I am currently figuring on following Lemurs’ scenario for Japanese and working with the forum on adjustments.

More carrier slots for both sides is a boon (Thank you, Mr. Wood) and our first priority should be to iron out the aircraft that will occupy them. Then we can fill the “land-based” slots.

We can’t expect any increase in number of aircraft icons (or slots) so there will be a lot of competition between aircraft. The allies (at least) will have to have half-a-dozen aircraft that share an icon with some other plane. I am very detail-oriented and would love to have seven variations of Wildcat, for example (F4F-3, F4F-4, FM-1, FM-2, Martlet II, Wildcat V, Wildcat VI). All with artwork and individual specs. I would also like to win the lottery (hey – I’d give you all some and hire Matrix to make a bunch of changes). It ain't gonna be.

In adding aircraft, I feel we must follow these priorities:

  • Get a representative sample of MAJOR types for the actual war years.
  • Add a few MAJOR types that would have come into service if the war had gone on a year longer
  • Add interesting variants, war years first.

Chinese markings? If you have any reference pics (preferably topdown and in color) email them to elf30@mchsi.com or post them here. Thanks

Won't get to it til tomorrow night (Thursday) at the earliest.

Keep in mind that though I do the artwork, there is no guarantee that they be selected.

Here is some excellent artwork from Platoonist (Thank you Sir).

Top to bottom:
British Fast Minelayer Abdiel
US Frigate Tacoma
Japanese Ammunition Ship Mamiya

Tacoma currently shares an icon with Niagara and Asheville - it will now have it's own. The other two will be used in new classes.

Really nice. Don, you don't seem happy with your art, although I think their fine. Maybe Platoonist can rework some of your least favourites.

The USS Griffin and Pelias (AS 13 and 14) are a seperate class and need art as well.

How about doing/redoing the Dixie class ADs, Fulton class ASs and Pelias class ASs. Dixie right now is the old Dixie. Fulton looks like a cartoon, and Pelias does not exist as a seperate class yet. AV Wright is a unique one-off but a Hog Islander will do nicely.

If I could get nice profile art like what Don posted I would. Unfortuantely I don't have much in the way of reference on these ship classes.

I suck at posting pics etc. I'll find ya a link. www.tendertale.com is good for ASs.
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/ships/ships-ab.html#ad good for ASs/ADs and AVs.

Any luck?

Here's my Dixie, modified from her near sister AS (same basic hull type - too lazy to go look it up, one of the USMC types).

I'm cheating and using the original Dixie as the USAT Redwood (reasonable resemblence).

What you see here represents work that I am contributing to the Combined mod AND will be usable in the Stock game as well. If it requires two seperate files then so be it.

Anny chance of getting P-80 Artwork? I've been working on a scenario where the USAAF OOB is in squdrons instead of groups. I've got the 412th FG consisting of the 29th, 31st and 445th squadrons arriving in mid June 45 equipped with P-80's. I've also been working on US aircraft production, Not that the US player can change anything but when the automatic upgrade occur the aC factorie upgrade doing away with the production of P-40B's in 1944. This is still a work in progress. I'd be willing to help out with USAAF OOB as well as US Army OOB as I have some decent sources here. Some additional A/C models I use are P-38E
The 1st and 14th Fighter groups were equiped with these. The 1st arrives in the game beginning December 9th at San Diego. the 14th Starts at Los Angeles with two squadrons equiped with P-38E's (48th and 49th) and one of P-40B's low level P-38 E's allow the 50th FS of the 14th FG to re-equip with them before the end of 41 as they did historically In March 42 the P-38E production changes to P-38F Then the P-38's follow the P-38 tract. The B-17's come in three Varieties the B-17D at start out of production, the B-17E's and finally the B-17F's The G's never got to the Pacific Theater so why waste a slot. Both the P-47 and the P-51 have an additional model the P-47N and the P-51H.

P-80 is definitely doable. Send me reference photos or let me know what unit markings you want me to put on them and it'll happen. For now I am concentrating on a/c already in the DB.

Elf, would you be willing to do a P66 colorization for me? I've got a sideview of one but not colorized. Not sure if they would use it in the update but possibly in Chinese markings since they had most usage of it. The US only had one group that used it in game but then upgraded to P38's, in game I think it's a P36 or 40B at start. I'm working on alot of Chinese air units that I've mentioned to Don, maybe they'd be interested in using my info. I've got it in gif, jpeg & bmp format, which would work better for you if you're willing?

I got Photoshop the other day and as I had never tried the normal 2D ship art started doing some for practice and to learn to pros and cons of Photoshop. I will do more but concentrate
on the not so go Japanese ships

you may be able to to make use of the results if you can I will send to you the originals
from the top

I’m working with my old art files, upgrading and reworking them, right now I’m trying to add propellers to Allied a/c profiles… many of them are too big to have a propeller, looks like I have to redo some of these… may be there is something else here to improve or change? Brightness, colors… scale? Any ideas?
