I've finally got the jpeg I wanted to fit within the forum constraints, but can't seem to find the right button in "My Profile" to attach it to my posts. I'm still without avatar. Any suggestions ....

The avatar section in your profile gas two options...pick one of theirs or upload. The text that says 'upload my picture' is a link to browse for your file on you computer...or a web address to a pic.

Scout in My Profile go to the signature box and you have to use the pdg code to 'imbed' your image with your signature.

This appears to be really simple, yet I still have not had any success with the avatar. I've uploaded it (after getting it the right size). Said it was uploaded, yet no avatar.
Thoughts ....

I hate simple things, they seem to be the most trouble.

I reworked my avatar a few weeks ago and when I uploaded it, it was about a week before it actually changed. Maybe there's some approval thing?

The secret was checking the box AFTER uploading, not before.

What exactly is going on Gud, we can't see what you get in the way of messages ... are you trying to upload one or link one from externally?

Wild_Willie 2, you just need to change "Enter URL" to "Upload my picture". Remember the check box is done AFTER you upload the picture

Standard web resolution is 72 dpi...300 is pushing the file size over and after the web projects your image at 72, the image is huge.

The limits are 145pixels x 145 pixels and file size limit of 750kb.

Click the checkbox AFTER you upload...looks like that's the kicker.
