I was playing with 8.0 for years, and for that matter never really showed up in forums cause i never had any problems. Then i got a new computer, and everything on the old HD was gone. I downloaded SPWAW and saw to my pleasant surprise that an update was out and it was 8.2 I installed it and started playing. I was very happy with the new look and updated OOB's... however... there was one major problem. When my mouse moved anywhere near the edge of the screen, it would scroll so fast that i couldnt catch any of my units. I was then quite busy with college and other things that i didn't really try solving it. I installed the game at my work computer now, and wanted to get back into it. I was quite happy that 8.3 came out and i was hoping to god that the scroll issue has been adressed... but it hasn't. Now i have possibly the best game of all time installed on two awesome computers... between the two of which i pretty much spend 75% of all my time... and i can't play it. Did anyone else encounter anything like this? Can anyone PLEASE help me? I can't even place my units effectively as the screen scrolls so fast that it skips entire formations in a fraction of a second. I did not find an option for scroll speed... someone help?...please?

I just tried different resolutions and different mouse speeds but the effect does not change. Any help at all is appreciated and thanks in advance.

RareForm, you have found the one glitch (I assume yours is a WinXP system) that many have found to be frustrating. I switched from a Win 98 system to XP, and have the same difficulty. I don't have an answer for you, unfortunately. The best I could do is to set SPWaW to run in Win98 compatibility mode. This game does require some patience, and after nearly five years, I've learned to live with the fact that the game was reworked for an older version of Windows. There will be no more updates. The game underwent frequent reworkings, and 8.3 will be the final version. Numerous unpaid volunteers worked countless hours in all these revisions, but for a giveaway game, it eventually had to stop.

Rareform, I was one of the volunteers, but we all knew that support had to end sooner or later. Many of us still hang around to give help, but some things will have to be left as is. However, I'm very proud to have been associated with SPWaW, and still regard it as one of the best wargames that ever existed.

crap... are you serious? man this is... crap. And I regard it as one of the greatest games of all time, but the thing is that i never switched systems. I went from XP to a faster cpu XP. Only thing is that i went from 8.0 to 8.2... is there anywhere that i can find the 8.0 version? because i will gladly go back to that... at least i'll be able to play!

Hey Rareform.

Welcome to the forums! Sorry to hear you are having problems. One thing you might want to try is navigating by the map in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Depending on how zoomed in you are, you can click around the map quite easily to check out your units. The white dots on the map are your units, the green dots are objectives and the red dots are bad guys. It may not be an ideal solution but it may help you get by.

I also have a compressed copy of 8.0d and 7.1 on my hard drive. Is there an email address I can send one of them to that can a few hundred megs (400+) of data? I have a google account I could set you up with which provides a gig of space. It's great for emailing large files.

Let me know.

Now, durn it, Rareform, there WAS a mech.exe change from 8.0 to 8.2, and if this your bugaboo, then, by all means, go back to it, but the game was improved by this change. The latest and greatest mech.exe is dated 4/2/04. This version is for 8.2 and the final 8.3. Jeez, I hate to see anyone having to rollback, but it works for you, and the new one doesn't , then do the rollback. Your new 8.3 OOBs will work fine with it.

There IS a Scroll Delay setting, on the left side under General Preferences.
I have mine set at 2.

Thank you all for the help and the goodwill, i'll definately be a regular on the forums now (alot of free time at work study) The scroll delay solved everything and the game runs beautifully now! D'oh! After 5 years, I never even noticed it was there, because I didn't have any issues on my old PC. Thanks, KNomad, for pointing it out.
