Playing WitP for hours and hours is difficult if you have a girlfriend. I find particulary difficult to justify staying in front of my computer when my girlfriend phones me and says: What are you doing???...errrg... well...I....I was searching some important information...and it takes me a lot of time....

I don´t know what she would say () if she discovered that I spent A LOT of time trying to sink aircraft carriers, laying mines, sending supplies..

Will they ever undestand that???

No, but nor will many males understand either quite honestly.

I'm considering looking for the equivalent of a drug rehabilitation centre and checking myself in - I definitely am starting to get obsessive about this.

I wonder if Matrix have had a disclaimer on their product about not being responsible for additction to the game - in the naturally litigious country that I 'understand' America is I wonder when the first lawsuit will be issued?

Roger

[Please not for all who read this - it is all intended tongue in cheek]

{Please note for any who don't know what tongue in cheek means - its an english expression for an attempt at humour - humor for those who spell more logically on the other side of the pond}

No.

At least not 99.99% of cases, anyway!

You might get tolerance - but understanding? Good luck!

I guess you could always offer her the choice - chasing other girls or chasing some enemy ships!

An old wargamer friend of mine many years ago told me that his wife was fully content that he spent a fortune on miniatures and table top gaming because she always knew where he was and what he was up to!

I wish this forum system had a spellchecker!

This would be the tolerance approach - they don't understand it, but they will put up with it...

In my own case, i get by (a bit, anyway) because my wife has a serious geneology "jones". She will put up with WITP (and other games) because she is busy chasing down death certificates, etc. She can talk on this for hours, but about 30 seconds is the limit of tolerance for my actually talking about WITP!

I met my beloved back when Starcraft was new.

Over time she has been trained not to gripe when she asks me to do something and is met by the response, "After this battle.".

She rocks.

My wife asks me if I'm meditating again - as I stare at a (mostly) blue screen listening to the japanese pan-pipe type music that comes with the game. Then again I did wake up the other night shouting when I had a dream that I couldn't get any CAP over Port Moresby

Nevermind, I posted something which ended up being an entendre, so I removed it.

What about serious model railroad buffs? The equivalent of what they spend on their houses is in the basement and taking up 85% of the space. Those puppies are not cheap and ya can't use them for anything else. Nice though...

I can't believe their wives....

My girlfriend said something like "You're so cute when you're being all nerdy with your planes and that stuff" when I was sitting in front of WitP, looking up plane data in one of my aircraft books. I just hope she can maintain that attitude...

No, I bet they are a variant of the Japanese super weapon, the geisha girl!

Given the choice of playing WitP or designing and building a time machine to go back in time to the 1940's, my wife is content that I play WitP. What she doesn't understand is that I would rather spend a month doing a scenario design and then maybe play it for three hours before I see things I want to change and start all over again. THAT is what drives her nuts.

No, it seems it is another major bug in the game. Maybe the patch will fix it with a toggle on/off.

Patch v1.150 for WITP:
_ any American division entering an Australian city will see its disruption and fatigue rise sharply. Morale will get at 99. On the other hand, Australians units in the same city will have morale halved.

Maybe that explains the unit-disappears-miracle in the game.

Same for NZ. For those of you who haven't read Bergerud's 'Touched with fire', here's a funny quote from an interview in the book (with a guy from 25th US Division on R&R in NZ):

"Many of New Zealand's servicemen were in Europe. There was a lot of dating between our guys and the local girls. It caused some friction. One night I was at the movies in Auckland and Bambi was playing. There was a part of the film where Bambi's mother is killed and Bambi is saying, 'Where's mother?'. Some New Zealand sailor yelled out: 'Don't worry, kid, she's probably out with some bloody Yank.' People collapsed with laughter."

Excellent book, btw. Unfortunately my g/f can't understand why I spent so much time playing WitP, PacWar (PBEM dragging on) and reading war stuff - causes some friction, too.
