He is battering away towards Lanchow. When he arrives at the gates of the city he will find a well supplied force of a hundred plus thousand behind the walls of a level 7 fortress. The siege should be long and bloody.

Burma

He continues sweeps over Lashio and Pagan…the hurricane remains ineffective vs his zeros. The 93rd (Liberators) morale continues to inch up, now at 60, in a day or two I want to try another 50 plane raid over Rangoon, see if we can get those fires burning.

Malaya

Singapore claws for life.

DEI

The dutch toke a poke at his minis, hopefully they will get another shot at them today.

Australia

Mini mes are inbound I will shuffle air around and hopefully do some harassment.

PM

The 19ths morale continues to plunge….I have decided to hold them over for just one more day and try to get them to attack some of the naval shipping I see around Rabaul.

Noumea

Operation Scatter worked very well in day one, I believe the bulk of my troops will be saved. That being said, he will no doubt change his tactics to try to get a few more sinkings. 3 Aks with aviation support troops are landing at Noumea. Its still a target rich environment, we will see how well his Task Group commander plans the day.

Status: offline 		My west coast ASW forces caught one of his subs off San Diego.

Xarg threw the weight of his Malayian bombing force against my heavy bomber bases...they got in untouched and shot up the field with min losses on his part. His heavies also went against PM this morning...unescorted my Wirraways there got up and shot up 17 nells...might be a few days before he sends them in without escort.

His mini me carrier force made another appearance against Broome, I left some MSWs there to attract his bombers. I hate to lose sweepers, but as always I prefer to let him use his combat power against support ships.

My sad sack B17s out of PM put a bomb into one of his AKs off the Admiralty Islands.

In a bit of a suprise the Hudsons I moved to Noumea in a vain attempt to harrass his Carriers went after a Cruiser force he moved into the port attempting to pick off some of the ships offloading troops there....what Id do for a few dive bombers :)....they didnt get any hits..but his Vals put bombs into two transports.

A busy AM phase to say the least.

In the PM turn those crazy New Zealanders put two 250 lb bombs into the Atago....bet shooting up that harbor wasnt as worthwhile as he thought.

His Vals swept in again and pounded the two or three ships at Noumea.
His Kates went after ships fleeing north to Efate

Burning Atago attacked 3 AKs in port, sinking 2 of them.

As many AKs as he picks off, i have to say I am satisfied with Operation Scatter and the abilty of my merchant crews to survive and get the hell out of harm's way so quickly, it could of been far worse.

Status: offline 		He started the day with his 3 cruisers sinking more of my AKs at Noumea. I guess he is really irritated his carriers were so ineffective. When the sun came up B17s out of Noumea put a couple of 500 lbers into Atago.

He also sped his carriers west and caught up with a transport group i hadnt splintered, full of supplies...grrr. Its a painful loss but again, Id rather having going after supply ships then go after the ones full of troops.

All in all I have avoided a huge disaster here at Noumea...good for me. Soon I hope to be causing him disasters instead of figuring out how to avoid them

I have ordered Hornet to depart Seattle. She is steaming towards Dutch Harbor. When she arrives I will evaluate the situation and decide whether or not to give Operation Doolittle a go.

Now, if you can catch his CVs after they've used all their ammo on your AKs.. well, that would be fantastic..

Status: offline 		A rare daylight bombing for rangoon, My wimpy liberators turned back, but the Beauforts went in and shot up the airfield a bit. He also pounded Akyab with heavies, im not sure what to do about that. He doesnt damage the af, but i cant keep planes on the ground here either.

Status: offline 		His forces landed on Baker Island this morning. The landing included a fireworks display by at least one battleship and at least 600 troops. Looks like that area is part of his defense zone. I will weigh option on counter landing and taking it back from him again as he does not have a lot of forces in this part of the Pacific.

I have decided to add Canton to the list of areas I watch due to his counter invasion of Baker Island which cost me about 300 men. For him to send a battleship in to help assure that Baker fell tells me he believes the area is more important to his central strategy then I first thought. I have also decided to “build” Canton up to a first class citadel. It already has a size three airfield there. I have the 102nd RCT 3 days out of Canton…they will provide defense. Yesterday I moved the 11th BG (B17s) to Canton with the intent to fly them on to the Auckland or Noumea, those orders are canceled, they will operate out of Canton. I will also send a second base force and engineers to Canton. Once I build Canton up I will use it as the leading edge to reinvade Baker and hopefully draw his forces in for a fight around my land based air.

Dutch Harbor has been built up rather nicely and will now serve as my main submarine operations depot.

The 7th is resting at Colombo…the wimps….I have two big supply groups loading for Chandpur and Akyab, I expect his bombers to come out and play….in about 4 days or so.

He spotted poor Java making a run for Perth. He didn’t send any bombers out yesterday, but I would expect waves and waves from his minis today. The 19th is resting in Charter Towers, once I get them back up to 60 or so its back to PM for a couple days at his ground troops in Rabaul. The 7th Aussie is reloading at Rockhampton and preparing to head for Gili again.

PM

A transport group arrived today bearing the 21st FG (P40s)…no more free rides for his bombers.

Status: offline 		My british ASW forces picked off a sub near South of India.

Flight Officer Jackson scored 4 kills over China to give him 7 for the war today.

My land based air out of Broome went after his mini carrier group off the North Coast today. No hits, but hopefull that will send him backwards and away from Australia.

No sign of his carriers South of Noumea...dissappointing actually.

I replaced the 19th BG (B17) with a more dynamic leader, again hoping to work on that crappy morale.

I can put up 10 P40s today, I changed the commander of the group looking for good results when he comes a bombing.

Noumea

Most of my transports are dropping off in Auckland now, some of them that scattered are headed south to Auckland, where I will reform the 3 groups provide them plenty of destroyer escort and make a run to Noumea. Lesson learned, Xarg is not the AI and will will surprise me from time to time.

Status: offline 		My P-40s out of Lanchow shot down 6 of his defending Nates in defense of my Brit bombers going after his ground troops slowling moving north to Lanchow.

He lost a lot of troops in his first major attack on Singapore in weeks....

Beyond that it was another quiet day.

Hornet’s battlegroup will dock at Dutch Harbor tomorrow. My new understanding of the Op rules will force me to hold her here while I wait for my Oilers to catch up. They are probably a good 4 or 5 days out.

China

He bombs, I bomb…beyond that not much movement. He is slowly creeping towards Lanchow from two directions….I continue to build up what men and materials I can spare. My honest only hope of holding here is the British airpower (with American fighters) to delay him as much as possible. The 24th fighter group (A) has been feasting on Nates with 33 confirmed kills here.

Burma

The 7th BG (LB30) morale is slowly climbing, unless he makes a radical move of some kind here I will wait until they are between 80 and 90 before I move them back to Dacca.
I transferred AVG to SE Asia today, they have 16 planes left and I would like to rebuild the group. I moved them to Chandpur where SE Asia is headquarters sits. A few days they should start receiving new planes and pilots.

Malaya

He made his first deliberate assault here yesterday reduced the fortress to 6. They have maybe a week of life left. They have lasted well past the historic date though I think that was more him being slow then me being tenacious.

DEI

Realistically I’m just waiting for the invasion to come.

Australia

Various task groups headed north for Gili and PM.

The 19th BG (B17) is up to 52 in morale. Perhaps Col Cole is doing some asskicking of the malcontents.

PM

So I took some C-47s and had them landed elements of the 1st Aussie in Lae today to contest one of Xarguns famous submarine commando raids…They are there to kill the xargunites and then return back to PM. I will use the C-47s to rescue the support troops at Rabaul.

Noumea

Well slowly the mess that Xargun made is reorganizing. The troops that were dropped at Auckland will be reformed and sent to Noumea as was the plan. I was considering sending my carriers east to support possible operations out of Canton Island, and I will do that, but after they make a visit to Auckland and escort the Aks to Noumea…I’m dumb, but I’m not dumb enough to get burned twice the same way.

I have replaced the leader of the 5th BG (B17) which is currently resting in Auckland attempting to regain some (as in any) morale.

Bah his fricken carriers are south of Canton pounding the troop ships. Im truly starting to hate this. Does he ever run out of ammo? ...my carriers are still days behind him and by the time they can catch him he will be well within imperial waters. Im starting to wonder how he keeps catching my troop ships just as if they are about to reach landfall...perhaps I have a spy in my midst.

On the one happy note of the day...I held Lae from his sub commandos.

Status: offline 		He launched a huge unescorted raid against PM and it cost him 8 (confirmed) bombers.

He is also showing extreme reach in North Australia, bombing Minesweepers as they were entering the port of Darwin. 2 of them were were sunk.

His 3 Carriers continue to pound away at the troops ships in Canton Island Harbor...hopefully most of the lads got ashore :) before all 6 troop ships sank.

It is now march and Singapore continues to hold...excellant.

Of course a new month means new brit useless ship withdrawals, this time a CL and 2 DD.

I scuttled the California about 300 miles southwest of Los Angeles. My ASW forces are failing pretty miserably. I am recalling all the west coast ones as soon as they get low on fuel. I will then assign them to individual convoys as they come into port. We will try it that way for awhile.

Midway

Midway remains solid. To take it he would have to commit a huge amount of resources…I don’t see that happening..

Pearl Harbor

The first bit of the Americal division has begun arriving here..


Canton Island

Well I got about 3000 members of the 102nd RCT ashore before he put their transports into the bottom of the harbor. Good for me. The loss of the transports was painful however J...

Alaska

Hornet is here, but I am now pretty clueless what to do with her. Given my new understanding of the fuel rules…I will probably move her south of Dutch Harbor and await my oilers..

China

Im sending my 24th FS (A) out to cover the retreating Chinese troops southwest of Lanchow. He has been bombing the hell out of them and having a free run at them. This should work off some of his morale J.

Burma

The 7th BG (LB30) morale is slowly climbing, up to a big 56.

He backed off after and just bombed the troops at Singapore. Amazing, they still hold on. I have given them virtually no support and here we are in march and the Brits are still fighting. The longer they hold here..the longer I hold Burma and the clock is against him.

I moves some fighters to DEI just in case his Bettys go after the transport ship I have dropping supplies at Leutern.

Australia

I have slid some fighters to Darwin, if he sends his bombers in unescorted again…J well heres hoping.

The 19th BG (B17) is at 52 morale and holding. Perhaps Col Cole isn’t doing so much after all.

PM

My P 40s gave his heavies a nice welcome today. Hopefully he comes back for more.

Noumea

Well Im halfway to a level 2 airfield and amazed that he has let me keep the place. I have to figure out how to get my P 39s from Noumea to here…without losing them. He is still has half of his carriers unaccounted for.

For obvious reasons, I won't say anything about how your game is going! I did want to say, though, that I like the format of your reports, broken down by theatre. Makes it a lot easier for me to visualize what's happening, especially when I'm reading this instead of doing what I'm paid to do here at the office (hence, no game map in front of me).

Status: offline 		Today's Xargunite target over in the Bay of Bengal was Diamond Harbor. He punch a lot of holes in some troop ships that were just arriving...causing a few deaths.

I sent my Wirraways into Kuala Lumpur from Sumantra in the morning phase and they actually got a couple of resource hits :).

My guess is his next DEI target is Bali as he hammered the airfield there for a second day.

Today he sent his dive bombers in against the airfield of Canton Island, he smacked some B17s (11th BG) which continue to refuse to fly against his well spotted carriers....ah gotta love the "new" AAF.

Today my P 40s out of Lanchow clamed 7 more of his unescorted bombers south of the city...:). His morale must be suffering at this point.

And we cant forget his carriers which pounded the harbor at Canton Island for a 3rd day. All the troops are ashore so at most I will lose AKs and supplies, hurts, but not horrible.

And singapore continues to hold on.

I actually did this when I intially got the game just to stay organized. Since the way we are doing the AARs this time is more like a diary, it just made sense to post my "notes". I did go to every other day on the reports of my movements because I thought doing it everyday was boring (especially those days where nothing changed.) Thanks :)

Status: offline 		Today's big Xargun target was Bankha, home of the Wirraways which pounded Kuala Lumpur the day before. He sent 101 Heavy bombers against the airfield. Good for him...means Singapore will last that much longer :). Beyond that it was a mostly quiet day in the Pacific...the best kind.

West Coast

Continuing to gather all my ASW patrols. He has rendered my air ASW ineffective with his positioning of his subs so far from air bases. Until I get jeep carriers I will have to resort to the old convoy system.

Midway

Midway remains solid.

Pearl Harbor

Nothing new today.


Canton Island

4K in troops from the 102nd are ashore. There is one more transport inbound with about 500 troops. I have begun to expand all the facilities here. Once I get the airfield up to 4 or 5 I will move my B17s (11th BG) back and operated against Baker Island. I will continue to move troops into the air and use this as a staging area against Baker.

Alaska

Hornet is south of Dutch Harbor. I staged a commando raid against Paramashiro Jima the northen most Japanese Island and found 4000 support troops there. This is the first of several commando raids I would like to stage out of Dutch Harbor, nothing serious…just irritants. If however he sends large fleet assets towards Dutch Harbor…what a shame if they were caught by Hornet. J.

China

I have moved 5 squadrons of British, American and Chinese heavy bombers to Chungking where they will attack the city of Wuhan. Xargun does not have the city covered with any air defenses…hopefully in the next few days we can make him pay for that.

Burma

The 7th BG (LB30) morale is slowly climbing, up to a big 57. I guess they aren’t fans of Sri Lanka either.

Malaya

He continues to bombard Singapore…I have transport planes engaging in the rescue of the MAF…cant have too many support troops.

DEI

I know his CVs (some of them) are located at Kendari…and I have seen a lot of shipping there lately, so he is probably planning a major landing…no doubt against Ambonia or Timor.

Australia

The 19th BG (B17) is at 58 morale and holding.

PM

I have picked up most of the 1st Aussie which prevented his seizure with sub troops of Lae.

Noumea

Still bringing in stragglers from the Xargun typhoon of 42.

PI

Just bits and pieces left.

Solomon Islands

Well Im halfway to a level 2 airfield and amazed that he has let me keep the place. I have decided to send the 14th NZ Brigade in next, as soon as my carriers return from their wild goose chase of Xargun I will send the 14th NZ, lots of supplies and P39s out of Noumea to Lunga. I am amazed he hasn’t tried to take this back, but since he isn’t I am going to put a large effort into holding it.

Well, I've started keeping my own notes in the same way. I've been trying to find some decent system, but when I asked others how they did it back in Pacific War the only responses were "I keep it in my head." That doesn't work in WitP or when you can only play in fits and starts due to real-world commitments.

Off-topic: this season-ticket holder is curious whether you work for the Gold and Black or for those other guys out in the desert.

I work for the maroon and gold...during the season...the bowl game against the gold and black was one of the better bowl games I have worked in 11 years though :).

Status: offline 		Today Xargun started off his morning with the bombing of Andaman Island. Largely a waste of bombs given the fact that there are mostly only ground troops here. Maybe he is planning to visit :).

His Nells also paid another visit to Timor attempting to Sink the SS Lematang...which if you believe his pilots has been hit so many times in the last few days

My Wirraways zoomed into Kuala Lumpur today and scored another resource hit :).

His forces killed off my commando raid at Paramushiro Jima...

One question -- I've noticed your concern over low B-17 morale, and I've also noticed you fly them below 6,000 feet on occassion (regularly?). You're aware of the 30 point morale drop for LBs flow below 6,000 with more damaged than operational a/c during resolution phase, right? May be other penalties not listed in the manual too....

I understand I press my bombers too hard. I think what bothers me is that I can move them to safe harbor and watch the morale go down at times. I had the 7th at Calcutta for a period of time until I realized that their morale was...dropping...small stuff like that. No worries though...got myself a couple of good bomber commanders in the cat bird seat and they both intend to do something about all the peaceniks :).
