OK, Wobbly spread me all over the place and beat the crap out of me everywhere I invaded, and we go for a restart in Feb 42

Tabpub smashes half my fleet, lures me into a trap, and kills more APs and men than even he realises by Feb 42, and I have to ask for a restart....

This is developing into a very nasty pattern.

How many other guys out there so badly got it wrong so early

(my crime - trying to take it all at once, right now, and forgetting there is an opposition)

Oh yeah,
Tom Hunter has launched counter attacks in China, Java, and the PI. Over confidence is a real threat. I over reached and attacked without proper support and numbers. We're at the end of Feb and it's just heart wrenching but it's interesting pulling defeat from the jaws of victory. However, as a new Japanese fanboy, I'm learning what not to do the hard way and it's paying off in my other game.

Another sucky player
Kelly

Hi, It's Apr 42 and I've lost 4 CV as Japan. Java not taken (Versus Dadman)
It's June 1942 and I've lost 5 CV as Japan Java and Sumatra not taken (Sveint)
I'm not asking for a restart. I'm just starting my 1943 defense in 1942

Things better in other games because I learned a lot in these two (numbers 1 and 2 began)

Kelly,

You have not lost any CVs yet there is still hope.

PS I am on the road until Friday so your fleet is safe for the moment.

I agree with 33vyper its hard enough to play this game well as the allies when you have no experience I can only begin to imagine the screw ups I would have made if my first game had been as Japan.

Wobbly is being a pain in the ass with those CVs between Hawaii and San Fransisco. He hasn't got my carriers yet and he narrowly missed some wounded battlewagons from Pearl headed to the West Coast. He's sunk a few freighters and DDs and a CA or two.

That was the last of my "training games." Current snr 15 game its 1/24/02 and Sing fell yesterday, but Hong Kong still lives!!! don't ask, i have no idea... Oh rangoon's days are numbered two... 45k of troops are now facing what i think are 2 IJA divisions- which begs a question, i have a burma bgd in the next hex, if i loose the base, do the rangoon boys retreat that way, or do they become guests of the emporer?

I got 3 "first games" going right now and am losing in 2 of the three games. i think most of us are beginners until a year of "real time" play is logged.

It will depend if the ZOC that the IJA put on the exit hex is still there when Rangoon falls. How long a ZOC (zone of control) lasts is a matter that is still debated (last i looked). Press the "W" key and see if the retreat hex has a J in it. If it does, your exit is blocked (even if there is also an "A" for Allied in the same hex.)

Even with 2 IJA division, your 45K men still may be able to hold out with an active defense, constant air attacks on the IJA, etc. Especially if you can slow them down before they get to Rangoon. Malaria will eat them up in the jungles outside Rangoon - while Rangoon itself is malaria free. Keep bombing them and it will slow them immensely (well, sometimes) while you build your forts in Rangoon.

Of course, this is against the AI. If you are facing a human, get ready to start whistling "Colonel Bogie" and start driving railroad spikes to build your bridge over the river Kwai.

Thanks! I had no idea. IS that in the Manual??? I was leaning toward trying to hold out. BUT, with Sing just falling i'm assuming that the IJA will rush troops and more air assets into burma now. Don't know if my fighters can keep the sea lanes open... I think i hyjacked my first thread!

In order for it to be called 'hijacking' it would have to be intentional...not luck of the draw...you're giving yourself too much credit...

Malaria is covered in section 12.0 of the rules. Mogami stated in a thread that units do not recover fatigue in malaria zones, but i don't actually see that in the rules.

The ZOC stuff is a new addition to the game (version 1.30 and up, iirc). So, no, it is not in the manual.

EDIT: It MIGHT be included in the "What's New" upgrade notes.

Don't worry, think i'm even "better" then you. Pfnognoff sinks my 2CVL for nothing, send my Ise to the bottom of the sea. It is early june '42.

Oh, i almost forget i lose rabaul, rangoon and not important bases around rangoon....

I am a certified sucky Japan player. I have no plan......I'm more confused that a stenographer after a goodwill planning session between top IJA and IJN leaders. Only I would choose to attack Burma and Malaya at the same time and it took me 1.5 months to capture Rabaul from 3 Oz battalions.

mommy......
