I think I had read in an earlier thread that Matrix, or was it 2X3, was going to develop a new War in Russia game that has a lot more detail than the much older version and be something more along the lines of WitP? Could some one in the know elaborate a little bit of this please? or am I just crazy?

Havn't heard anything, but it would seem to be a smart move. UV and WitP have been hugely popular, and I suspect a new War in Russia would sell just as well, if not better. It would certainly be on my shopping list.

Their site says:

The Russian Front (1941-1945)

Development of this game is currently on hold
The game will have the following features:

· 10 miles per hex
· Division sized maneuver units (with some brigades/regiments and build up to Soviet Corps)
· German Corps/Army HQ's and Soviet Army/Front HQ's
· Independent Corps/Army battalions to attach to maneuver units
· Air units by group attached to Army/Front HQ's
· Player or computer controlled production
· Losses in individual vehicles and squads
· Detailed yet automatic accounting for support personnel and supplies
· Rules for shifts in initiative
· Historical Commander ratings
· Accounts for troops/vehicles that are disrupted, disabled and fatigued
· Accurately depicts the need for training units before entering combat

It says it is on hold. That said, I do remember something in one of the WITP threads saying UV med was now a non starter, and that this game (War in Russia) would be next priority after WAW was finished.

Regards,
IronDuke

Think IronDuke just about covered it, just a couple of points to add. 2by3 are also working on an ACW game based on the WAW engine. My guess is that will come out before the new WIR. I seem to remember that Joel Billings stated in a post that once the next WitP patch comes out Mike Wood, the programmer, will transition across to WIR. Yesterday Mike stated that he thought the coding for the WitP patch would take a couple more weeks. So I guess WIR is a long way off yet.

I really didn't expect for WiR to come out next week. After the long development of WitP I really don't expect it for a couple of years. I am glad that they are going to focus on the Eastern Front.I would like to see them get the new engine up and running with WiR and then they can add fronts and theaters like the Med. I do appreciate the responses and it clears up some of my angst.

If you want the info straight from the horse's mouth, here is the link to the "Developer's Diary". It is very clear about the future of the games.

If only I could run the old War in Russia without it burning my eyes with low refresh rates.
