Most of the scenarios have run just fine, but the on the Bread and Butter scenario the game is locking up immediately after the turn resolution of the 4th half-hour turn.

Let me know if you want me send you the save game file. I have the save from just before starting the turn resolution of the fourth turn.

Thanks.

Commc,

Do you know if there are any reinforcements entering the game on this turn? Also what side are you playing?

EDIT: I just played the scenario from the NATO side. There are helo's that come into play on turn 4. I had no problem though. And decimated the WP forces in 8 turns. Ugly it was...

Well, I traced the problem to one particular unit, when I gave it different orders, then ran the execution phase, it didn't lock up. However, after a few turns another unit caused it to lock up. That one was fixed by changing its movement orders, but now another one is causing the same problem, etc.

At the end of the turn execution, the running description of the action on the right goes blank and the game just freezes.

It is getting annoying so I would appreciate any thoughts or tips. Hopefully this may be fixed in the 1st patch.

Well, here is the file, attached. Could someone else try this file, and see if they get the same result?

This is now a priority bug for me.

Does the game lock up or just run extremely slowly for a while (15 - 20 minutes) and then recover? We had some unexplained slowdowns recently in the playtest forum.

Thanks for the saved games. I will examine them closely. Could I also trouble you for a file in your root game directory called "FPG Report.txt" if it exists? This is a debug file that traps exceptions thrown by the game and might be invaluable depending on the nature of the bug.

I will report back here with progress. Thank you for your patience!

Cheers, Rob.

CommC,

I ran your save game and got through the current turn, but the game froze as you described after displaying the Orders screen. The list is also blank on mine and I'll bet it crashes the game and also the error reporting function (Isee two FPG icons in the task manager when I three finger salute.

Rob,
How many entries can the report list on the right handle? The diary was stating 930+ entries before the turn started. Less then 300 for the WP. Not sure why the error trap would lock up unless file I/O was buggered up by the initial bug.

The game runs fine, then hangs at the end of the combat resolution phase, after you hit the "Proceed" to the orders phase. I haven't seen any slow-downs.

I couldn't find the FPG Report.txt file in the root game directory. It must not have been generated.

One other possible data point is I notice that the "browse enemy units" setting was toggled, whereas I thought I had been playing with this off. Perhaps this became inadvertently turned on after the start of the scenario and may have contributed to cause the bug.

I have since been playing the "Soviet Main Force Attack" scenario, which has been running fine, no lock-ups. Strange.

Thanks for your help with this.

Woohoo, I nailed it!!

The Soviets had taken very severe losses in your saved game and the second recon unit 2/R/117 Gds MRR had become subordinated to the first recon unit 1/R/117 Gds MRR. This can happen automatically as HQs are picked off. Then when the Soviet reinforcements arrived (the 2nd flight of MiG-23's) the AI was called as usual to attach them to a group and give them a default mission. The AI routine that forms groups surveyed everything and saw that 1/R/117 was an acting HQ and therefore a leader of a potential group but since both it and the 2/R were both recon units a special rule kicked in and took them back out of that particular group (recon units are free spirits that go where they want to independently of the other groupings of forces). Then when the routine looped around again it found that the next unit to look at was the newly restored 1/R and the whole process repeated. It was an endless loop.... In and out, in and out.

The good news is that this has now been fixed. The bad news is that you won't see it until 1.02. We will try to be quick with 1.02 though.

Cheers, Rob.

Sounds great! ... looking forward v1.02

Until then, if we get this bug, we can just assume victory... as the lock-up means the WP is having trouble reorganizing?

I'm afraid you will have to do that, yes. On the plus side, it seems to be quite rare.
