Hiya folks - not sure if this is a bug, but I was looking through the various troop types of lesser known nations and I came across the following :
Country : Norway.
Infantry : SS Nordland Co
There are 3 options under the infantry selection,
1) With Rifle, MG34, Hand grenades and Satchel Charge
2) With Rifle, MG42, Hg and Satchel Charge.
3) With Rifle, MG42, Hg and Scheissbecher ( whatever that is )

But costs for these is :
1) 22
2) 8
3) 24

Surely the cost for (2) should be either 28 ( and it's a typo ) or something else and it's just totally wrong ?

These Norwegian troops are already cheaper than German equivalent which is about 32 points, but 8 can lead to an exploit of buying about 4 times as many troops AND they get the better MG.

Now, I've heard that 8.3 is the last of the patches, so what's the solution ( if that cost is wrong ) ?

Cheers

While there are numerous examples, such as the one you point out, of errors in the OOBs, Matrix isn't going to continue support for the game so we have to live with what we have. If you can convince your opponent to use a custom OOB, there is that option. Otherwise you'll just have your opponent not to use such 'cheap' or 'gamey' units in PBEM.

You can also post this at The Depot. We are undergoing a Depot OOB Project to fix this stuff. All suggestions are posted by members, discussed and then voted on by everyone that wishes to participate. Only those with a large majority are changed.

Several nations are 'done' as of now, but there are plenty more up for discussion, and voting. There is also a Miscellaneous section for errors in the finished nations to be posted. This way we can catch anything that is missed.

The SPWaW Depot then goto the forums

Guys, the 8.3 OOBs were done by a dedicated group of researchers and gamers, but if we had to cross every "t" and dot every "i" in the database, then you'd probably STILL be waiting on it. Yes, some typos did slip through, but they can be readily corrected using the OOB Editor. No "official" patches will be forthcoming, but "unofficial" suggestions have been submitted and can be found in the "Comments on the 8.3 OOBs" thread. I found some boo-boos in the USMC, and the fixes are mentioned in the above thread.

The fixes have to be applied manually, but a sticky thread exists on using the OOB editor supplied with the game. This is the same one the team used. For purposes of PBEM play, the changes should be regarded as post-facto "OOB Team" approved, so this is as close to an official update as you'll get.

Even if you aren't crossing your t's and dotting your lower case j's, I don't see why someone didn't go through each unit and make sure they didn't have something way out of wack like a cost that was too low (SS Nordland Sqd cost of 8), a targetting value of 10 (Italian tank), or a purchase year that makes no sense (US T95 ? Superheavy tank that never left the states is available in '46; all "what if" units should be delegated to '49 like the Maus is).

Scheissbecher = Rifle Grenade

Unfortunately, sh*t happens. Part of having humans involved. All in all, they did a fine job.

Hmm, that's a pity. In most cases, shortly after a big patch there will be a small patch which fixes the mistakes made in the big patch.

I promised that I would stay out of this BUT!

As a group we did our best. yes WE MISSED SOME THINGS.

SORRY!

Being human sucks! But thats what we are. Please forgive us.

If we have projects to do with MATRIX in the future we will do better. SPWaW as all of you know has it's limits. Just say CODE.

There are just some things that you cannot change. I found that out when I worked on this project. And then there were things that no one had the courage to change.

Bring it up to a vote at the DEPOT

Yo - please don't think I was knocking any of the people who spent loads of time updating/fixing/improving SPWaW. As a programmer myself, I know all about bugs and the ability to miss them. It's (still) a great game, I enjoy it immensely and I have nothing but respect and thanks for all their hard work.

I was just wondering what to do about an anomaly like that now that no more patches are in the offing.

Cheers for the info about the Depot ( and thanks, KNomad for your extra info too ).

Ave
