Anyone trying the Alpha against the AI using the Andrew Brown map mod? If so, what are your results thus far and is it going to be possible to do?

I don't know, but the "beta" will be available soon, which will enable you to try this yourself.

I've played to Jan 1, 42 and it sems to work fine. The AI (Japanese) is ashore in the PI threatening Clark and taken most of Mindano. In Malaysia they landed at Khotra Batru (sp?) and have moved down the pennsula to the two bases north of Singapore. Hong Kong lasted until the 19th of December with about half of the ships there making it to Java or Australia. Wake was assulted on the first turn and the Marines held, I managed to evacuate all of the troops and planes leaving about 1100 supplies for whomever gets there next. The gunboat in Shanghai lasted a whole turn and a half, while the President Harrison (AP) heading into Tsingtao (sp?) was able to reverse course and save one attack by China based Kates is north of Marcus headed to San Fran at 7 kts. The KB has appeared only once post Pearl Harbor, near Rabaul sinking 6 AKs trying to evacuate the Kaving garrison.

The AI does seem to have a propensity to send unescorted amphib groups to landings within range of Allied Surface Action Groups (SAGs) which has gotten them beaten up a few times. The first was a quick run by Force Z which according to combat reports cost the AI the CA Kumano, plus two others prety well beat up in exchange for a couple of destroyers. Force Z survived the experience and is now split with PoW and 4 damaged DDs heading for Colombo, while the Repluse, Exeter, a couple of D class cruisers and DDs are based in Batavia in reaction mode to see what will pop up.

The AI land based torpedo bombers, Bettys, are leathal if they find you, so air cover is very important. All in all it's much fun and more interesting than the stock game.

I just managed, with much help from Andrew and Don - thank you both, to get the special map mods installed and it seems to work out fine.

One thing I'm trying to figure out is whether or not it's possible to effect database changes to a game in progress any help or thoughts?
