Status: offline 		Intelligence reports no defenders at either landing site, we have been reconing the entire islands so as to not give away our intentions. Last sighting of the ABDA force was a week ago and they had 5 Cl + 15 DD in theater. Covering force for the occupation will be 3CVL, 2 CVE, 3 BB, 15 CA/CL, 30 DD. Awaiting Adm SeaWolF's concurrence on this plan. He is presently studing the timing and considering a change to the landing profile such that the objectives are hit cuncurrently.

The Indonesian people will welcome the Japanese as friends and Asian brothers! The KNIL is nothing more than an imperialist police force, and we expect many will desert, rather than fight for the hated Dutch!

You can expect full cooperation and intelligence from patriotic Indonesians, whether PKI (communist) or not. However, we do ask that Indonesian independence be granted, under Japanese military protection, and that the natural treasures of Indonesia (oil) be used for the development of industry in Indonesia, not stolen to Netherlands.

Rest assured that your Japanese Brethren look forward to completing the liberation of Indonesia as much as the subjugated residents due. It is our intention to set up local government as soon as the Imperialists have been evicted and it is hoped that a national government under the Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere can be established as soon as possible. Staff reports indicate that there was little to no resistance from the army on our DEI operation. The operation will be codenamed Shogun.

Central Pacific

The carrier striking fleet is returning to Makin after fainting toward the South Pacific after an unsuccessful raid on Canton Island. Nagumo’s orders are to remain at Makin in hopes that the Americans will return. If it does, he will sortie on short notice.

South Pacific

All remains on track, with initial planning for the invasions of Talasea and Gasmata nearly complete. These invasions will be launched within the week. As present intelligence reports these bases to be undefended, a single SNLF is planned for each invasion.

Philippines/DEI

The 14th Army continues to bombard Clark Field while awaiting the conclusion of the Manila operation. The 56th brigade has been call from the southern Philippines where it was relieved by naval forces. The 56th is proceeding to Manila to reinforce the operation there.

Malay

The 25th Army reports continued operations against Singapore. So far attacks have reduced the fort by two levels, however the defenders continue to dig in. Ground strikes continue.

The Sumatra invasion force continues to board transports in Saigon. As soon as this loading is complete the Java force will commence loading (I only allow port size*5 ships to load at a time). Once all forces have loaded they will sail with the Java force sailing one day before the Sumatra force due to the difference in distances to be traveled.

Burma

Minor air combat occurred at Rangoon today. The 15th Army remains at Rangoon to refit while awaiting reinforcements from the Singapore operation. There is no change expected in the near future.

China

The 11th and 13th Armies continue their advance from Hengchow toward Kweilin. Kweilin also was attacked by aircraft out of Canton today, encountering resistance from American P-40s. Several American aircraft were reported destroyed on the ground and in the air. The 11th and 13th expect to arrive NLT 16 Jan.

Sir, we have received reports from intelligence that there is a single unified command with an American placed in charge. His identity has not yet been confirmed, more details to follow. I am planning a trip to China today to report on the situation there as operations continue. I recommend that you travel to Saigon to oversee the loading of the force for Shogun to insure that all details are taken care of, and you outrank the 16th Army commander and can prevent any stalling on their part.

The Sumatra invasion force continues to board transports in Saigon. There is a definite traffic jam at the port. All future major operations will be staged out of multiple facilities to prevent this. Adm Tanka has been placed in overall command of the operaiton.

Burma

Minor air combat occurred at Rangoon today. The 15th Army remains at Rangoon to refit while awaiting reinforcements from the Singapore operation. There is no change expected in the near future.

China

The 11th and 13th Armies report catching units withdrawing from Hengchow toward Kweilin, and will attack in the morning. I intend to observe this operation and will report in the morning.

As I write this I am observing a coordinated attack on the Chinese Positions. I must admit as to being surprised by how effective our attacks in China have been, however the reasons are clearly evident as I watch this attack. The Chinese simply do not seem to have the will to resist. As soon as our troops make an advance, the Chinese pull back. This cannot be completely blamed on them as I have been completely impressed with the commander of the 11th Army, Gen Tsukata. He has been able to coordinate the movement of large numbers of troops with relative ease.

I spoke to him about the situation in the Philippines and his opinion was he held the division commander in low regard and recommended firing them. The 14th Army commander, however, reports having full faith in the commanders. I will travel there next and issue you my opinion. We must get that operation on track. Reports from Saigon are not good as the Army is complaining that the troops scheduled for the Java invasion may be needed in Singapore, you must handle this situation.

Per your advice, I traveled with Gen Tojo to Saigon today for consultations with the Southern Area Army commander, Gen. Dohihara. He stated that he was reluctant to release any further forces from the reserve while the operations to secure Singapore and the Philippines are still under way. It was explained to him that the Philippine operations had just recently received a division and a brigade of reinforcements and that our industry is running on borrowed time. I was able to secure the release of the troops conditional on both Manila and Singapore being secured before the troops are committed to action in Java. Working these issues drive me insane, I wish I was back working on the development of new tactics and weapons than trying to implement these operations.

After spending fours hours down on the docks, I am amazed at the amount of inefficacies that exists in the Army loading process. If I here one more time, “But we were told to do it this way.” I am going to invite that person to meet their ancestors. However, an Admiral poking around the docks seems to have worked and loading is proceeding. I have attached the normal briefing that was prepared in you absense.

I have arrived at Manila and am appalled at what I have found so far. When I asked the commander of the 16th Division where his front line was, he could not even tell me! I recommend that he be summarily relived of duty. However, I have suggested that his honor suggests that he personally lead his division forward. If this attack fails, I recommend his replacement, but if it is successful he might be allowed to remain in command as long as he continues to taste success.

I also witnessed an air battle today while observing the front line. There are a handful of American P-40s that defy our every attempt to shoot them down. If this continues long term our ambitions for an empire will be short lived. I have expressed my concern to the air commander and he requested reinforcement before he challenges the Americans again. I am tired of trying to instill confidence wherever I go. We need to have a generation of leaders who present confidence to their forces. I am keeping a list of names of junior officers who possess the required skills as leaders need to be replaced.

South Pacific

An American convoy has been located east of Canton Island headed toward Canton. Nagumo has orders to sail and attempt to catch this convoy while it is unloading. Reports will follow

The 14th Army continues to bombard Clark Field. I have the personal assurance of both the 16th and 38th division commanders that they will secure Manila today or die trying. I will report on the results of the attack in the morning.

I am writing this report in the former command bunker of the 91st PA division after accepting the surrender of this command. A short description of the attack follows: At 0500 leading elements of the 38th division launched a probing attack of the defenses. The attack began to falter and the supporting forces from the 16th division were nowhere to be found. As the valiant soldiers from the 38th began to be forced back (with me attached), a large volume of fire came from the defenders left flank. It turns out that the 16th division’s commander had infiltrated the enemy position with his division while the enemy was engaged with us and seized their rear and flank. This effectively ended the battle and the defenders surrendered within 90 minutes. Presently the defenders are being held in their former barracks, but more permanent POW facilities need to be found. My next stop is Singapore to observe the operations there.

Further reports on the American Task force indicate that there is at least 2 Battleships headed to Canton Island. Nagumo’s carriers will be in a position to strike at Canton in 48 hours. We hope to catch the American task force with our carrier aircraft.

The 14th Army continues to bombard Clark Field. The units at Manila will recover for seven to ten days and then move to Clark Field to help with the reduction of the positions their.

Malay

The 25th Army reports preparations are complete for today’s attack. I will arrive on site after this attack for consultations with the on scene commanders.

Today was quiet, with only the attack on Singapore to report. This attack successfully penetrated the outer defenses and after reorganization and consolidation of the new positions, the 25th Army reports one more push should secure the city.

Here is the status report of the war to date as requested by his Imperial Majesty.

We have managed to sink 1 BC, 2 CA, 1 CL, 2 PG, 2 AS, 1 MSW, 1 AP, 2 TK, 2 SS, 4 PT, and 1 AK. Our ship losses to date include 1 ML, 1 MSW, 1 AK, 1 AP and 5 SS.

We estimate that the Allies have lost 714 airplanes to all causes while we have lost 326 aircraft, we also have inflicted over 2300 points of ground troop losses on the Americans, while losing 71 points of our own.

Today neither side lost anything.

Admiral Nagumo reports finding only an American Cargo ship at Canton Island which his fliers promptly sunk. It was protected by a heavy cap of both P-40B and F4F’s, however suggesting that something of importance was present, a politician perhaps? Our brave fliers shot down 22 of the defenders for the loss of 4 zeros. However, the primary target was not found and Nagumo is retiring toward the Marshal Islands for resupply. At the same time, our air forces in the Philippines engaged the defenders in an air battle over Clark field. We shot down 11 of the defenders in exchange for 6 of our Zeros. These pilots are very good.

I have arrived at the outskirts of Singapore and am preparing to oversee the attack that is scheduled for the morning. Wish me well as I go into action for the Emperor. I will report on the results from the front in the morning.

South Pacific

Madang, Talasea, and Gasmata have all been invaded with Lea scheduled to be invaded in the morning. After Northern New Guinea and New Britain have been secured, the rest of the Solomon Islands will be occupied. Preliminary plans for an invasion of Port Morseby are underway.

The majority of the 11th and 13th Armies have arrived at Kweilin and will attack in the morning. The commanders report that given past success, they are not going to wait for all forces to arrive nor are they going to set up preliminary bombardments before attacking.
