Hello folks,

Well this is my first attempt at a AAR so please bear with me. The first month of the war is now over so I felt it was okay to post. My opponent and I will be both posting to this AAR so information regarding future operations will be kept to a bare level (unless I get stupid and decide to brag).

And onto the war:
Pearl Harbor wasn't all that good, I launched two strikes and only bagged the Arizona. I
then drove off to the north, refueled and then headed East. First time I ever headed off
in this direction and it paid off nicely by locating a TF composed of two BBs, some CLs and DDs heading for the Western Seaboard of America.
End result: West Virginia, Tennessee sunk outright, 3 CLs and 2 DDs eventually followed, either directly or sunk later from flooding/scuttling.

Wake Island-- Overrun on the first turn though the TF got shot up as usual.

I took the usual Islands in the South Pacific: Tarawa and Makin.

Rabual-- now this vital location is normally a tough nut to crack if you only use forces from Truk. I've learned to dispatch some additional troops from Kwajalwein to backup the forces from Truk, both amphib groups conducting landings at the same time. So far this tactic has worked well for me in my games.
Lunga and Buna are mine now as well.

I landed at Ambonia, Menado, and Davao, moving in LBA and escorts with some recon to help slam down any escaping TF from the PI.

Borneo- Jesselton and Brunei are mine so far.

PI-- Jolo fell this last turn along with Cotabato. I have Legaspi along with northern Luzon under my boot and moving my forces further south to finish the conquest though I expect it to take awhile.

China-- The siege of Changsha has been underway for afew days. Last turn I tried a shock attack which cost me dearly, I guess the Chinese aren't quite ready to buckle under my jackboot. We've been battling over Canton since the beginning of the war and neither side is making any progress. Hong Kong fell within the first week I believe (it's been awhile so I don't remember exactly). Right now I'm moving stuff around and sorting out exactly how I want to proceed on this front.

Burma-- Tavoy and Victoria Point are mine.

Malaya-- Okay here's something interesting, looks like some elements of Blackwatch's units to the south are attempting to drive north to Burma. I have a good sized blocking force in position and his forces are sitting in the hex NW of Bandou. This surprised me as I am currently overrunning most of the bases in Malaya without having to fight for them.
Kuala Lumpar and Malacca will fall next turn most likely and I will continue to head for Sinapore though it's starting to look like he has exacuated the vast majority of units out of this battlezone....this is going to make future operations interesting since I'm not sure where he's sent these units off to.

Obviously I have several operations underway and will hopefully get to post up some more good news for the Empire of Japan.

Right now the score is:
Japan: 3922
Allies: 6882

Allied ships sunk: 25 for 832 points
Japan ships sunk: 11 for 56 points

Allied planes lost: 456
Japanese planes lost: 163

Sincerely
Kellyc

PS-- If anyone has any suggestions in how to make this more enjoyable to read let me know. I'm trying to stay away from posting the combat reports directly because it contains alot of information that isn't really fun to read.

My honorable opponent forgot one important point: we are playing Lemur's scen, not the standard one.

Not much action possible for the Allied player in December 41. I'm quite pleased for the succesfull evacuation of the ships from PI and DEI. 25 ships lost including the losses in PH and losses of the TF heading West Coast for refit are a god result IMO.
POW and Repulse are safe this is a good news too.
In PI, DEI and Malaysia I'm organizing to make the conquest as hard as possible.
In China Cangsha is resisting and causing heavy losses to the Japanese troops.

Not much else to say at the moment, I'll let to my opponent the time to conquest all what he can and wait with great patience for my time to come.

Nothing much really for this last turn.

Seems he's pulled back away from Canton, this move surprised me but hey nothing new there.
I took the bases I said I was in the first post. He's abondoned quite abit of terroritory to my advance, must say I like taking bases w/o losses to my own side but the battle at the end will probably be a bloody mess.

I did manage to sink a TK and AP in the Banda Sea this turn but otherwise it's quite city while we manuver our prespective forces around.

Kelly

Not much changes from the last report.

In China the battle for Chansa is still going on with the Japanese working to refuce the forts. The Chinese troops left Canton since it was not a realistic target.
In Luzon the Japanese are attaking San Marcelino while the allied troops are retreating to Clark.
In DEI Japanese troops are landing at Koepang (Timor) protected by a CV TF.
Not many progresses in the other DEI islands and in Malaysia.

The Aliied forces are organizing and avoiding frontal contact when possible.

The Chinese forces in Changsha are still holding and managed to infict some losses to the Japanese:

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 137279 troops, 1301 guns, 164 vehicles

Defending force 103140 troops, 249 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 0

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:
2882 casualties reported
Guns lost 71
Vehicles lost 3

Allied ground losses:
1711 casualties reported
Guns lost 68

In Luzon San Marcelino was captured and the main Allied forces are located in Clark.

In Dei Japanese forces are landing in Tarakan.

My overall sensation is that Kelly is not hurrying up and this is not bad for my purposes

No action in PI and Malaysia so far.
Japanese troops are landing at Kuantan. South of Alor Star two Indian brigades withdrawing towards Rangon have been attacked by Japanese troops for several days with no result.
Bulla, Gasmata and Tarakan are Jaoanese bases now.
In China Changsha is stil in Chinese control.
The overall situation looks very quiet and this is not bad from me.

Not bad for you? You just wait and see.

This last turn I did have a problem with the AI pathing on acouple of land units that was 'supposed' to be marching from Tarakan to Sameria (sp?). They went off into the jungle . A well, guess they needed the exercise but it's gonna take them awhile to get back. I've experienced this little problem before, and it's amazing how well it can throw a wrinkle into your well thought out battle plan .

Don't worry Blackwatch, you'll get to experience some more heartaches before the tide turns .

Sincerely
Kelly

Chansha is still resisting. The Japanese is bombarding, but no reall attack there.
I think that the two indian brigades south of Alor Star are beginning to be felt as a problem now:

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 31022 troops, 314 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 7317 troops, 22 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 80 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
300 casualties reported
Guns lost 14

Allied ground losses:
59 casualties reported

They look quite angry....

That result above kind of irks me somewhat. At those kinds of odds the bloody bastards should have folded up and died, course that's not the first time I've said that nor the last.

This latest turn was abit of a disaster for me (the turn that followed above), I lost afew ships after getting several TF's in the same hex (heading to Kuantan) ambushed. It wasn't pretty and quite afew ships went down. Fortunately for me they had already dropped off what they came to deliver.
One of those live and learn deals, guess my flyboys failed to see the enemy driving along in their nice shiny warships and I should have put some more escorts into the formations. Ah well, can't make an omlette without breaking afew eggs.

Plans are already underway for revenge, just won't come quickly or by the same route
Those Indians managed to survive another turn but I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the diversion of effort just to elimante them, but I can't leave them sitting in my rear area unguarded.

PI...well my sense of timing still sucks, I can't seem to get my forces to arrive all in one batch and once again a partial stack got repulsed from Clark airfield. The good news is that I got the PI pretty well cut off so the enemy isn't going anywhere and nothing is going to get into the PI except maybe the odd submarine.

Not a good turn but sure along way from defeat.

Kelly

It seems that Kelly really wants to wipe out the Indian troops near Alor Star:

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 30516 troops, 287 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 4200 troops, 4 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 440 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
70 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

Allied ground losses:
2873 casualties reported
Guns lost 16

Japanese troops landed at Kuching and captured the base. A good part of Borneo is now in Japanese control.

The good news is that I was able to sink 22 Japanese ships so far: not a bad start.
Allied troops are beginning to organize and move to "advanced" bases.

At last Kelly totally erased the Indian troops near Alor Star.
I believe that now he is organizing his troops in Malaya and Luzon.
On my side I'm trying to increase forts in both areas and make things as difficult as possible for him.
British troops are organizing a defence line in Burma, we will see if it will be solid enough to stop the Japanese advance.

Well another turn has passed since the wipe out of the Indian forces. I was relieved when this little grouping ceased to exist. Now of course, Blackwatch has found another distraction to throw at me up at Rahaeng.
I'll deal with that accordingly while continuing on with operations.

We continue to bombard each other around Changsha. Blackwatch has laid seige to Nanning almost at the beginning of the game. He's conducting bombardments but I don't think this last one was what he had in mind
Ground combat at Nanning
Japanese ground losses:
4 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Allied ground losses:
8 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

He lost more then I did which suits me just fine.

In the DEI I'm still waiting for my forces that marched into the jungle to reach the trail/road and then continue on with my offensive . A minor setback but I guess the Japanese CO can't read a map.

Not alot to report this time out, swapped some air strikes but beyond that everything is pretty quiet, won't last long though.

I'm alittle worried about the a/c bug that killed off Blackwatch vrs Tom Hunter's PBEM but so far things seem to be going okay.
Kelly

KellyC to get the aircraft bug to work he has to sink some of your CVs. If nothing sinks until after 1.5 comes out you are safe.

Tom, I started sinking his transports, but if 1.5 keeps to be missing I'll probably sink all of his CVs too Kelly and Kelly is concerned about this.

After some quiet days KB showed today west of Goodenough I. heading SW. The combat TF is followed closely by a huge transport goup.
Maybe Kelly is thinking to PM?

In Luzon two Allied divisions managed to retake Legaspi from the Japanese. Just to give some headache

It's only quiet because you sent your bombers on another raid to VP and I was waiting for them . Needless to say the bomber group returned from the raid missing 40 aircraft and I got some new aces.

As for where I'm going....I hear Townsville or Brisbane is nice this time of year or maybe NZ? Loose lips sinks ships.
