I’ve been working out what I want to do with my AC production after 1.5 comes out and I’ve come up with a potential problem. Suppose I decide I want to use nothing but Dinah for all my recon planes. So I don’t even want to bother producing the Myrt, for example, because I don’t want Myrt, I want the Dinah. So I’d like to convert the factories that would be doing R&D on Myrt over to something I’m actually going to use. My question is: will I need Myrts in the replacement pool to get any reinforcement units that start out with Myrt? I hope the answer is no but I’m fearing it’s yes. If it’s yes then I’ll a) have to bite the bullet and use Myrt b) have to repair those Myrt R&D factories (since they begin the game damaged), produce some planes and then convert to something else which will mean I’m repairing the same factory twice.

First off since the Myrt is a navy planes you can not convert them to the Dinah dince it is an army plane.

There are two different Myrts in the game. Most of them do indeed upgrade to Dinah.

edit: This is incorrect. Sorry, I was thinking of Babs.

Hi.

The particular plane isn't important, I just pulled it off a list to use as an example. For all I know Myrt is the best recon plane there is. The thing I'm really concerned about is whether or not I can convert those factories on turn 1 and not have to worry about having planes on hand for the reinforement air groups to arrive.

For example. On Dec 7 you have no KI-43 IIa Oscars in the plane pool because they haven't been invented yet. But you have Nate factories which will autoconvert to Oscar II factories and you have Oscar II research factories. I don't plan to use Oscar II's. The Tony and Tojo arrive 4 months earlier and are better in every category except range. What I want to do is convert those Nate and Oscar II factories on day 1 which would mean I would never build one Oscar II and never have any in the pool. The question is will any of those Oscar II units arrive if I have no Oscar II's in the pool?

No, they will just sit in the arrival queue "organizing" and never arrive.

But, you will not need large numbers of Oscar IIs to get the Oscar units to arrive. You just need enough to fill out a Daitai. When it does arrive, upgrade it immediately and the a/c will go back into the poolfor the next unit to use.

Be careful making wholesale conversions of a/c factories. It costs lots of supply to do this, and it is not really necessary until the day where

today = arrival date of desired a/c - number of days equal to the size of factory to be converted

That is assuming you have enough supply on hand to repair the factories, and you can manage to keep the supply in the hex with the factories!

Hi.

I know all about the heavy supply costs for factory repair. I calculated them up, to repair all of Japans damaged factories is around 1.3m supply. That’s AC factories anyway. I suppose there could be other types of factories that are damaged. Anyway, I don’t plan on repairing all my factories at once. But since all the Japanese factories that start out doing R&D begin the game damaged and I’m going to have to repair them anyway I might as well convert as much as I can to the planes I’m actually going to use.

I suppose in the case of Oscar II I’ll just halt production at one of the Nate factories and let it sit until it auto convert to Oscar II.

PS. I love that smilie.

Hi.

That's no big deal. In a few weeks we'll have it figured out.
