There are chess web sites out there where you just log on and make your move and then it appears for your oponent who can be any where in the world.
Illegal moves are impossible to make.
If we did this for EiA we could dispense with AI (iether by having 7 players or really good ump rules, MLB?) and have all the accounting and die rolls managed by the central server.
I imagine players would have a password and profile and there would be a place to advertise for players and time limits could be set (1 move per day/ week). There could be check boxes for optional rules/maps and varients.
It would be so conveinient.

I agree one game at a time is the way to go. Nonetheless as a matter for later consideration I would like to expand on why I think the idea (in the long term) could be the way to go.

Matrix would own the web site and copy-right, players would have to pay to start a game or maintain playing rights which would ensure a constant income stream for matrix.
You could then open source the code and people would be able to develope there own graphics and game play rule enhancements which could be either voted on, used as options, tested or incorporated.

People love refining this game, you just have to look at all the stuff on the web out there.

The game is turn based which perhaps makes the whole thing a bit easier. I do note, however, certain things like the split in naval/land/diplomatic/economic/combat phases makes expidited gameplay, still, problematic. Also there is naval interception and guard commitment in the basic rules and varient rules about land interception which would slow the game down even more.(right click on corp/army/leader/fleet,assign standing orders?)

I guess what Im getting at is that the potential for the game to evolve and grow would be expanded by the web hosting idea. The game would attract its own developers who would continue the work of refinement. No doubt you would feel more at leasure to contemplate such things once the computer version has turned gold.

ps It was gameknot chess that gave me this idea http://gameknot.com/
