Mogami, my bad it wasnt docked in game, i was just used the word docked, it wasnt actually docked at Soerbaja, the taskforce was just"Floating" outside of it.

Battle for DEI heats up

Battle for Tarakan

B-17s in flight over Tarakan

The invasion of Tarakan has been the catalyst in the battle of the Dutch east indies, with the quietness and slowness of the past few days a forgotten memory.

The SS Sculpin kicked off the battle with an attemped attack on a Destroyer in a bombardment taskforce the "Amaksukaze", the crew however failed to hit the destroyer and all four torpedos whent wide of the mark, the sculpin was immediately subjected to a feirce counterattack, being hit by four Depth Charges, it soon sunk.

The base subjected to invasion, correctly guessed as Tarakan was subjected to a fierce and devastating bombardment by the feared Japanese Battleships, who flattened the base in a matter of hours like they had done at Balikpapan earlier this month.

However the allies were not totally unprepared for this attack and the allied airforce was soon scrambled into the air, with limited results, but results none the less.
After several Martins,hudsons and B-17s released there bombs over Tarakan bay, only one confirmed bomb hit, that by a Martin bomber was reported, on the AP Gyoko Maru which is burning furiously.

With failed submarine and air attacks the Japanese are unloading, and should capture the base in the next few days.

Battle of Java take two

ABDA Forces engage Japanese fleet

Every bomber and fighter in the Dei beloning to American,British,Dutch and Australian forces, engaged the Japanese fleets sighted in the Java sea as they closed in on the important port of Soerbaja.
Several strikes where launched from the major dutch airfield at Batavia and Soerbaja, visually the strikes would of been impressive a great show of allied unity and might rallying together to hurt the Japanese, but hurt the Japanese they did not.

Wave after Wave of planes arrived over the taskforce,fighters taking heavy losses fending off the Japanese Zero which made its presence felt by shooting down many fighters and bombers sending them hurtling into the drink, the bombers however did not score ONE hit, Martins,Beautforts,Hudsons,Tiva's and even the odd B-17 all released there load into the sea harmlessly.

Other news

American submmarine engages and sinks a Minelayer off Kwajalien, this and the Japanese build up at Tarawa confirms the Japanese are already building up defensive positions on the exetremes of there empire.

Taung Gyi,Burma falls

Japanese submarine sunk off Fiji coast

SS KXIII sunk by Depth Charge outside Kuching

Battle for Borneo rages on

Kongo off the coast of Tarakan

The fight for Tarakan continues to escalate even though the important airfield has been captured by Japanese forces this evening.

The allies lost another submarine to Japanese ASW, as they try to score a hit on the bombardment taskforce that rains down death on the base, the SS Sturgeon is beleived sunk as it has failed to check in on its last two radio calls.On the bright side at least for the allies in the submarine war with a unconfirmed submarine hitting an unloading AP off the Tarakan coast with three 4 inch shells from its deck gun, before returning to the depths.

The allied airforce showed some slight improvements to there pathetic performance yesterday with two troop transports hit unloading troops and material off the coast, a B-17E Flying from Soerbaja confirmed one 500lb bomb hit on the AP Groko Maru, and two P-40 pilots confirming 100lb bomb hits on two unconfirmed AP's.

Soerbaja smashed

Dutch Minesweepers dodge shells

The Japanese taskforce attacked unsuccessfully in the Java sea the past few days has closed in on Soerbaja engaging hapless Minesweepers and merchant ships in the bay outside the port, countless Minesweepers and Ak's and Ap's have been sunk leaving the waters outside the base littered with sunken ship wrecks.

The only "resistance" came from PT boats which sallied out during the night and early morning to try and cause damage to the Jap fleet, they however failed miserably with countless ships being caught in the killing zone of Destroyer fire, before they could get in close and release torpedos.

Thankfull the surface combat group appears to be fleeing, and has left the bases Airfield untouched, a bombardment could of destroyed scores of planes,serverly damaging the defense of Java.

The Japanese Cruisers have once again proved themselves as techincally some of the best in the world, and almost definately have the most skilled and efficent crews in the world.

The Carrier Hermes is closing in the Taskforce from Kendari, to try and catch the surface combat group in its Swordfish range.

Burma Blitzkreig

Japanese paratroopers over Lashio

The Japanese will have completed there Burma campaign in little more than a month if they manage to evict the British from there hastily prepared defenses at Mandalay, there are no more ideal defensive positions available in Burma and British troops would have to retreat to positions in Eastern India.

The Jungle fighting which the Japanese have shown worrying skill and expertise at even against Gurka units from Nepal. And now even this Defensive position at Mandalay is under threat from being surronded as Japanese paratroopers landed at Lashio and Mytikyman in Eastern Burma.

Other news

Two Japanese subs SS I-7 And SS I-15 sunk by ASW.

Destroyer Hughes of the Saratoga taskforce has been hit by two torpedos from a Jap sub and is critical, non essential staff on the ship are being evacuated. Every journey the Saratoga has made so far beteewn the West coast and Pearl Harbour it has lost one of its destroyers to sub attack, is it a cursed ship?

Two bomb hits on CA Kumano, bombs bounce off though

Enterprise and Lexington returning to Pearl harbour for new fighters, they may move to Pearl Harbour via Canton island to hit AK's there, and generally flatten the base.If recon by newly placed Catalinas at Pago Pago, prove base is empty of betties.

12th BG of B-18 Bolos loading up on ships to India

Aviation support being shipped from Karachi to Akyab.

Just a little reminder that this AAR is not dead, not yet anyway, as you may or may of not noticed i have had a few problems with my 1.5, but it is all resolved now, and me and gilles will begin trading turns once again.

Singapore "not long now"

Surrender talks underway

The Japanese conquest of Malaya will soon be completed, as the limited defence of Singapore begins to crumble under heavy Japanese pressure, the defense of the city, called the "Gibraltar of the east" has been reduced to several small pockets around the city.

The British defense seems pointless, the city could only be held for a few more days if the British high command ordered a fight to the death, however the Japanese have been telling the British over megaphones weilded by Japanese officiers ,that they are interested in a possible ceasefire to open up surrender talks beteewn Japanese and British commanders, hundreds of British and Commonwealth soldiers are already surrendering regardless, also seeing little sense in dying for a lost cause.

The city in a way has already fallen, fighting has been reduced to indivdual street corners and around the city docks, you would not think it anything special was going on in certain parts of the city, if it where not for black plumes of smoke rising over the horizon from burning buildings..

Soveriegn taskforce goes in all guns blazing outside Rangoon, sinks four AK's and a Tanker.

Japanese reach Mandalay

Japanese replused at Clark, but supplies running low, Philipino scouts and Americans low on ammunition, food and medical supplies.m

PS: A short news update to get me back on my feet, this is actually a very old turn, but im about 3 turns behind, and Work expierience means i am now working from 9-5, this plus coursework/homework and revisions, means these coming two weeks will be very stressful, but while this update doesnt have loadsa pics n such, it gives you the info.

Kido Butai strikes at Noumea!

Shokaku launching planes

A large chunk of the American Cruiser fleet has been destroyed today, as Japanese Carrier planes managed to achieve a second suprise attack in the space of two months on the Americans.

Several Cruisers, many destroyers and even more Merchant and tanker ships where caught peacefully docked in the quiet south pacific base, the attack lasted a matter of hours as wave after wave of Japanese aircraft attacked the port, of the underdeveloped base.

"We have insufficient bomber aircraft, and a non existant fighter airforce here, places like Midway, Pearl and Fiji have been higher on the list of reinforcement. We had nothing to deter a Japanese attack here, let alone an invasion" The garrison commander commented.

Indianapolis hit
At the end of the attack the Cruisers Indianpolis, Penscola and Louisville where beyond repair and where evacuated, before they sunk within hours of one another.

Three destroyers and countless AK's and Tankers have also been sunk or damaged in the raid,it is a further set back to any American counterattack.

Singapore falls

British surrender at Singapore

Today the British finally agreed to the Japanese terms of Surrender for the important and once mighty Malayan naval base, the Commonwealth forces have surrendered and are being marched into prison camps, a few hours later the first Japanese ships sailed into the long empty harbour. It is expected the Japanese will use this base as a staging point for an Invasion into Java, and possibly an Invasion of India.

The loss of the naval base, only completed in 1941 will come as a massive blow to the allies hopes in the Pacific, and to the allied war effort in general.

Battle of Celebes sea

The Japanese Battleship Hyuga hit by Torpedo

A fierce air and naval battle has occured over and in the Celebes sea and Makassar straights.

The battle begun with Japanese battleships, presumably the same taskforce which hit Tarakan to support invasions there a few days prior, was sighted steaming towards Balikpapan presumably to hit the airfield there once again. The ships where spotted by search planes from the Carrier Hermes.

The airfield was once again flattened as the Japanese pounded the base once again in the space of a month, but while the Japs did this, a strike was leaving the decks of the hermes, consisting of 15 Swordfish torpedo bombers and escoriting sea gladiators. The bombers met the Japanese Battleships as they where leaving, heading back to Davao.

The swordfish managed to score two torpedo hits on two Battleships by the end of the raid, the Hyuga and the Yashimiro where confirmed hit, and burning as the British left the scene, no major damage is presumed to be inflicted, but it is a result none the less.

The British's fortunes where about to chance though, there own taskforce had been spotted by Japanese patrol planes flying from Davao, and a Japanese retailitory strike was scrambled from Davao, consisting of Many Betty G4M1 bombers escourted by the A6M2 Zero the Sea Gladiators on Cap over the British carrier stood no chance.

Japanese retaliation

After the feirce attack had ended the Hermes was left burning furiously black smoke billowing from fires within the ruined ship, it has taken on a sharp list of 28 degrees and the ship seems doomed after three torpedo hits, the damage however has stabilished after brilliant work by the ships damage control crews, and could make it back to the nearby port of Balikpapan quiet easily, it is a case of whether the extensive flood damage can be contained.

The Battleship Revenge also took three torpedos in the attack, and is also similarly damaged and could just as possibly make it back to Balikpapan.

Revenge for Hiei

The once proud Revenge

Today the allies suffered a cruel turn of fate, as the Battleship HMS Revenge was subjected to a devastating submarine attack, with results similar to what happened to the Hiei on December 7th, a Magazine explosion.

The Battleship was looking good on living to fight another day as it steamed slowly back to Balikpapan to receive repairs, the SS-I23 had different ideas, releasing a spread of torpedos at the soon to be doomed Battleship.

Two Torpedos hit home, the second of which caused critical damage, and resulted in a Magazine explosion destroying the ship and reducing it to steaming scrap metal, it soon capsized and sunk, there are beleived to be no suriviors, the escourting destroyers didnt look long almong the wreckage, they knew no one would of survived in the explosion.

Two dutch subs sunk outside Kuching by Japanese destroyers

Empire Chivarly and Barracuda sunk outside Akyab by Betty raid

Japanese replused once again at Clark, Philipino and American defenders praised.

Ominato or Wake?

Right i would appreciate your help on a certain descision in my game i am planning my first carrier raid on the Japanese to try and slow there advance and shake there confidence.

As you may or may not know i have been thinking about this quiet a bit, and i have narrowed it down to these two bases, i can raid with 2 carriers and leave the other 2 on defensive patrol.

So

Wake

Pros

Destroyers spotted outside it

Isolated from other Japanese bases

Cons

Not very imaginative

Wont hurt Jap morale/confidence much, if at all

Ominato

Pros

"Doolittle" style raid to the heart of the Japanese empire

Will shake Japanese Morale/Confidence

Could catch merchant ships, and old unused DD'S and CL'S in port

Little chance of Japanese counterattack, they dont suspect

Would divert some Japanese resources to defend Japan itself, which could be used esle where.

Cons

Far from home, one Bomb/Torp hit could sink

So readers, if theres any out there, let me know what you think and would suggest i do.

Enterprise hit by Sub

The CL Enterprise that is

The Light Cruiser Enterprise was caught fleeing from the battle of Celebes sea and struck by two Torpedos by the SS I-66 a few short miles outside the relative safety of Soerbaja port.

The ship was without a destroyer escort, as it fled from the battle to escape the same fate as the Battleship Revenge and CVL Hermes, and to get out of betty range.

She is critical but should be able to comfortably make it to ancor in Soerbaja, then to Sydney or San fran for repairs.

The submarine was later chased away by a local Dutch ASW Patrol.

Point of impact

PS: Nothing esle to report, would really appreciate some feedback on the Wake/Ominato choice

2nd Allied intelligence coup, Pago Pago targeted!

Pago Pago, American Samoa

American intelligence has cracked Japanese naval codes once again, and found out the intentions of the Japanese armed forces, the target lies once again the south Pacific, but this time American Samoa,Pago Pago is the target for Japanese interest.

The base a few hundreds miles SW of Canton would be the next logical step in the IJN Doctrine of strangling American aid to the south pacific ,Australia and beyond, the base itself is like canton partically deserted, apart from a small garrion base force mainly consisting of non combats such as Medics/engineers and pilots of the Local Catalina squadron which is the only plane squadron based at the island.

The Japanese no doubt would use a much more concentrated force to take the island this time, compared to Canton, as the element of suprise about a assualt in this region is gone, and they would presume the base had been subjected to a millitary build up the past few weeks.

With the American Carrier and Battleship force rested in Pearl Harbour and the West coast, the public demands the base be saved and a stand be made to Japanese agression towards American soil.

"What they dont understand is that we're still reeling from December 7th, and quite frankly the Japanese are supreior to us in every way apart from Economic strength at this stage in the war, the publics idea of the Japanese as short,pale,cowardly bespecaled indivuals could not be further from the truth." He spoke in a interview on board USS Enterprise while it is docked in Pearl, he then added grimly

"They posses the finest Navy and airforce the world has ever seen and the morale and determination of there soldiers is admirable, we must preserve our forces and use our intellgence to engage the Japanese where the battle is in our favour, we cannot aford to lose any more ships due to over agressiveness, the tide will turn you can be sure of that, but we got many more dark days ahead" He finished and closed the interview, no doubt to deal with more pressing matters.

Clark field, Japanese assault replused

"Against all odds we've done it again!" Lt Guerre belowed after yet another Japanese assualt was made to flee, he waved his thompson around manically in the air, his skinny frame full of joy.

Somehow without sufficient food,supplies and ammunition, the American/Filipino defense has driven back the Japanese who also outnumber them two to one, the defenders are on half rations, and down to the last few crates of Medical supplies and ammunition, they have been told to make every bullet count, and the fataly wounded and ill are ignored and left to die in peace due to the lack of supplies, through these heartbreaking conditions morale is still relatively high, and the Allies vow to fight until they die.

Thanks for the advice guys, but the raids of hold, as i wait and see if hes going to commit the KB to this Pago Pago invasion, Wake now has betties, carrying bombs though, due to the small airfield.

I think i will go for Wake..

KB raids and Canton falling as slowed my build up in the south pacific by a month or so, Noumea and Suva are higher on my priority list, ive only started sending full scale convoys out of the west coast around mid Jan, due to the KB attacking the Surviving PH BB's imbeteewn PH and West coast.

Noumea has a NZ Brigade, Suva has a RCT or a div if i remember correctly, 2ND USMC Divsion is headed to Suva, that should be enough to hold Suva, and a couple of RCT's are on there way to Noumea.

Any other questions on my pathetic startegic grasp as playing as allies?

Little Joe,

you have to ask yourself a question when deciding whether to raid Wake or Ominato. What can you gain and what can you lose?

You have very little to gain for attacking either base. You have a lot to lose for attacking either base.

If you want to win this game, hold your carriers back for something important. One sub can ruin your day. His carriers may be near Pago Pago and can zoom north to intercept you before you get to Pearl. There are many possibilities for you to lose at least one carrier. You will only give him a mosquito bite if you happen to find any ships at Wake or Ominato.

Don't do either. Thats my opinion.

Then again, I only play the AI, so what do I know?

My raids on Canton, and the Resolution raid outside Rangoon, have perhaps inflated my confidence to "nibble" at the edges of the Japanese.

But hes going for a 4-1 no doubt, so the way i see it, every point i score, he has to score 4x, hence my agressive stance.

Im not suicidal, and i know the "rules" in engaging the japs in the first 6-12 months, but hes scoring big points, and i can see him conquering china, thanks to the flat footedness of my chinese units. That also means when the tide turns, i could be facing 3 Jap Divisions in each of the Marinas islands, due to him being able to release some of those divs.

Maybe im panicing and his point scoring will slow, i intend to bloody him in the DEI, my troops at Clark are perfoming admirably which is buying me time.

Ill try to update tonight the 5-6th is relatively quiet, so shouldnt take me to long.

7-8th February 1942

Battle over Burma

Hawker Hurricane

Today the skies over Burma saw some of the fiercest air battles snice December 7th, with RAF Hawker Hurricanes and American Volunteer group P-40B's battling against IJA Nate fighters and Navy A6M2 Fighters.

The day begun with the American volunteer group taking off from there airfield at Akyab to engage any Japanese aircraft over Rangoon.

They soon found Army Nates buzzing over Rangoon airfield, expecting another RAF Bomber raid the Army nates turned into the AVG Squadron and attacked agressively, the Japanese pilots soon realised there mistake, as the P-40B proved its self as a much superior plane and in the hands of much more expierienced pilots.

The results

All 16 of the AVG P-40B's returned home safetly in Akyab airfield, several claiming many kills, all in all the battle was a great success, with 8 Army Nates confirmed destroyed, for no P-40B losses.

The AVG Returned for a 2nd day, the Army nates more prepared and wise to there planes strengths and weaknesses, managed to shoot down to P-40's but still losing 8 of there own.

The allies where soon put on the defensive over Burma, as G4M1's and A6M2's prepared to attack British Merchant ships unloading British reinforcements and supplies in Akyab harbour.

Akyab burning

The Hawker Hurricane fought hard against A6M2's and Betties over Akyab, the first few raids of Japanese Bombers came in unescourted and the Hurricane, designed to intercept heavily armed German bombers over England, had no problems ripping apart the low flying and lightly armoured G4M1 Betty.

Once the raid was over 12 Betties where shot down for the loss of no Hurricanes, some Betties crept through and hit several AK's and AP's.

A second raid this time escourted by A6M2 Zero fighters spelt trouble for the Hurricanes, but they battled hard, they managed to shoot down one Zero and several more Betties for the loss of only one of there own, 232 Squadron has truly earnt its wings today, and will go down with the 18th fg and AVG as one of the top fighter units in the dark early months of the war.

Many Merchant ships where sunk and damaged, but no doubt many more would be if it where not for the brave pilots of 232 squadron.

Sometimes it does, depends what im looking for, finding pics of certain ships without a big fat caption saying "CV ENTERPRISE OUTSIDE GUADACANAL 1943" when im looking for a pic of her in PH or somthing.

Carrier planes sighted north of Pago Pago

The B5N "Kate" Japanese Torpedo bomber

American Submarines converging on Pago Pago, in preparation for the IJN's arrival to support the suspected invasion of the island chain, where attacked today by Carrier aircraft, later confirmed to the be the B5N Kate, the position of the attacks NW of Pago Pago, deny the possiblity of the attacks being carried out by Land based Kates, so it is beleived a Carrier Taskforce is somewhere in the waters north of Pago Pago. Whether this is the main Carrier force of 6 fleet carriers know as the Kido Butai, or a smaller light carrier force as seen breifly near the Philipines remains to be seen, and Catalinas are on high alert.

There is nothing to stop a carrier strike on Pago Pago, or any other kind of strike by the Japanese, and the island is already being counted as lost, but the real danager is that if the taskforce where to head South it could engage some valueable taskforces carriring the 2ND USMC Division due for Fiji, and a squadron of B-18 Bolos in a seperate taskforce headed for India.

If the taskforce where to head West towards Suva, many Mercant ships and Destroyers could be lost, taskforces in the area are being told to stay away from the waters south of Pago Pago, and head deeper into the south Pacific, and head towards New Zealand if need be.

American Carriers remain docked at Pearl, but American intellgence is keen to find out whether this is the "Mini" KB or the Kido Butai itself, it seems unlikely the Japanese would send its weaker more vunerable Carriers so deep into the South Pacific on there own, but if the Japanese have made this mistake, "Our Carriers may be sortied" Nimitz has said today.

British evacuate Mandalay

The Great escape?

The remaining British forces, encirled at Mandalay by Japanese ground forces to the south, and Paratroopers to the North, are unable to fight there way out of the pocket, and with no reinforcements on the way, British command have come up with a inventive and celver way to evacuate the Stranded troops.

By Air.

A squadron of C-47's have flown into Mandalay airfield overnight, and will leave in the early dawn light with 16 planes full of releived men, and return to somewhere on the "right" side of the India/Burma border to bases such as Imphal and Kohima where they will have some well deserved leave away from the front, then be retrained and prepared to fight the Japanese another day, possibly in the defense of India

The C-47 pilots are more than happy to save the stranded men, and seem very confident that the mission will end in success, British forces will be evacuated in the dim light of Late evening and early morning, so not to draw attention to any Japanese recon or fighter planes in the area, which could spell disaster for the unarmed planes.

There is some grumbling almongst Indian units which seem to be bottom of the priority list to be evacuated, and will stay in the rear guard to defend the Airfield till the end, British high command denies and racism in saving there own men, and insists that there choice has been made on how quickly replacements and new equipment can be draw back into the units and on how hard and expertly the Indian forces have fought through Burma over the last 2 months.

Carrier Zuiho sighted!

Zuhio sighted

American Catalina's flying from Pago Pago sighted a Carrier in the large Taskforce persumed to be a Air Combat Taskforce covering the Pago Pago invasion, the Light Cruiser Zuhio was Photographed by the Catalina squadron, and later confirmed by intelligence officiers to be a Light Carrier, and after many hours of debate and comparing the picture to pictures the allies already have of known Japanse Carriers it was confirmed to be the Zuhio.

"It seems strange that the Japanese would commit there "mini" Carriers so deep into enemy Waters, eiether they've underestimated the potentional strength of our Carriers and have gotten cocky, or the Kido Butai is not far behind and this is the bait" A intelligence officier was quote saying today at Pearl Harbour.

The American Navy still has not been sortied, Allied command is very aware of the high losses sustained thus far, and no gambles will be taken with there remaining precious assets.

"First big raid" RAF Claims

While no where on the scale of the Raids by the RAF Bomber Command in Europe for obvious reasons of poor weather and lack of suitable airfields in the far east, and the Allies policy of "Germany first"

The RAF has still managed to pull of a promisingly large raid, in the early days of the war, and gives hope for larger and more damaging raids when the reinforcements and infrastructure in the Burma India area arrive.

33 Belhiem and 6 Wellington bombers released there bombs over Rangoon airfield, causing little damage to the airfield, bombs reportedly falling short and causing more damage to the inhabitants of Rangoons town.

RAF Spokespersons deny this, and are praising the co-ordinate and success of the raid, the Startegic bombing campaign should step up in the coming months, with US Airforce Bombers being sent to the reigion, and the British goverment promising increased reinforcement in the Far East.

Japanese Surface fleet attacks Akyab

The Japanese sent in a large Surface and Bombardment taskforce straight into Akyab and basically "shot up the place" A British Soldier on garrison at the base commented, as they begin to clear the rubble.

One Battleship, eight Cruisers, two Light Cruisers and many more escourting Destroyers steamed in, sunk one already strickened AK in port, and severly damaged several others, before causing the real damage.

They turned thier guns towards the crowded airfield, where planes from the Rangoon raid had just touched down, the bombardment lasted several hours, and soldiers, pilots and civilians alike where sent running for cover away, as a cocktail of ship shells rained down on the town also.

After the carnage had ended, many planes where left destroyed and damaged beyond repair, and even more damaged, its comes as a another blow to the British build up in Asia.

PS: Spent about half a hour looking for a pic of a jap surface fleet firing, and gave up

February overview

Bit later than usual but here anyway, its my game overview after another Months bitter fighting in and around the Pacific. Bare in mind please that these images are in the "future" March the 1st to be exact, i must get around to updating this more often, i am now on a half term holiday so i will have more time on my hands to update this.

Intelligence

As you can see the threat of 4-1 is there, he will reach 3-1 easily and maybe go higher when he takes Manilla and bags the troops trapped in the Philipines, capture of the DEI would nudge him closer to 4-1, i beleive he will reach 4-1 sometime in 1942, but i then have to deal with whittling down his lead, perhaps earlier than i would of liked ensuring he does not keep 4-1 when the clock strikes 12 on December 31st 1942.

Perhaps a Guadacanal style battle of attrition in late 42, would be my ideal scenario, whether he will make this mistake and overextend remains to be seen.

Nothing new here, apart from those Cruisers he sunk at Noumea with the Kido Butai and of Course the Revenge sunk south of Borneo, apart from that just some Submarines lost on each side and Merchant ships etc.

Would like to see some more Jap Capital ships sunk over the coming months, my Subs are now firmly in a Warship hunting role, ive moved them all around places like Kwaljalien and Truk, away from Merchant Shipping lanes, north of Luzon and around Japan's major ports, i need to attrition his offensive power 1943-44 when the war has comfortaly turned, will be when i send them looking for Merchants and tankers full of goodies.

Aircraft losses

Top Aircraft losses as of March 1st.

America's first line fighter the P-40B takes the dubious honor of being number 1 in this list, it hurts espically as the P-40B replacement rate is particually low, meaning i have a lot of Half full Squadrons of these planes, i must upgrade as many of this squadrons as quick as possible to the improved P-40E which also has a higher Replacement rate.

Japanese front line figter, the A6M2 Zero, is the no:1 Japanese lost, shot down a fair few in the skies, but most losses are to Operational losses, which ive noticed the Zero suffers from a lot.

Kido Butai bombers shot down over PH are still ranking high...

Not yet,China is more of a traning ground for his ground forces at the moment.

Most of thse losses are from his two PH strikes, i never really throught he was hurting his Airforce that much :S

Pago Pago falls

American prisoners rounded up under guard

As has been expected for a number of days, when the Japanese's intentions for America Samoa became apparent to American intelligence the island of Pago Pago has now officially been confirmed as lost.

Radio contact with the island was lost late this afternoon, The island garrison commander reported a large Japanese invasion force landing on the northern beaches of the island late last evening.

They stayed in radio contact with South Pacific command still located at Pearl Harbour, during the day, reporting severe Naval bombardment's from Japanese War ships, hitting there positions with deadly accuracy and inflicting a heavy toll on their men, the garrison commander then whent on to report that his men had driven back a Japanese probing attack, presumably from a smaller recon group and was preparing his men for the reality that they would return in greater numbers and that no help was on the way, and commended the bravery and attitude of his men in the face of definate death or Capture under a enemy that is already reknown for there poor and violent treatment of prisoners.

One final Radio message was received by the Garrison Commander Major Jpegg

"Our Positions are being overun, the Japanese will soon reach our rear lines where many non combantants and island inhabitants are hiding, the sound of Rifle fire and Japanese soldiers cheering is growing closer, my men have fought bravely many are dead or dying , i plan to surrender to stop this mindless bloodshed, we have resisted all we can....."

Pago Pago is yet another island to have fallen in the south pacific to Japanese agression.

"These islands will be amongst the first to be liberated from Japanese control, as they are quite isolated from the Japanese out perimeter." Admiral Nimitz was quoted as saying at Pearl Harbour this week.

Japanese advance continues

Japanese take Lanchow,China

In an anotherwise quiet day one thing remained the same, the Japanese advanced.

While the bulk of Japanese forces in China continued the march towards the Chinese Capital Chunking and smaller force marched northwards into Communist China heartland, today they look the town of Lanchow without any resistance apart from a few shots fired from local guerilla forces, a China previously split imbeteewn several factions unified to fight the Japanese invasion in 1937 apart from Communist forces who remained a enemy, the Communists are reportedly unable to give much reistance to the Japanese threat, and there will be very little to stop them from driving further North.

Also taken by Japanese forces was the small town and airfield at Kavieng, New Ireland NE of Rabaul, the airfield was secured by Japanese paratroopers early yesterday morning, the town first found by Dutch explorers in the 16th Century, and later owned by Germany as a overseas colony in the 19th did not offer much resistance to the falling paratroopers, but several sabogtage attemps where made to the towns infrastructure and airfield, several craters where created by explosives planted during the nigh, and several bridges where blown.

"Little peices of resistance like these made today will slow the Japanese by a few days, and bring them a few days closer to inevitable defeat by allied forces" Australian Prime Minister John Curtin spoke yesterday in Canerberra.

The Japanese are showing a increased interest in the New Britain/New Guinea area, which puts Australia under threat of attack, A Japanese airfield at places like Guadacanal, Rabaul and Port Moresby could endanger convoys headed to Australia, the latter base is being built up as a major airfield and port in which to resist growing Japanese agression in the Pacific.
