What am I doing wrong?

My well supplied and support, Betty's and Nell's with high morale, rarely fly naval attacj missions, which is what I have them set at. There will be spotted enemy TF's all aroung the base and they rarely fly. WHY?

Will they fly out of a base of size 4 AF?

I do have zero's at the same base and they fly against enemy ships at least twice/day.

Don't know. Just a couple of thoughts
1. Make sure that your Zeros are set to escort with no more than 50% CAP
2. Have leaders with Inspiration of at least 55 (preferably 65)

"I do have zero's at the same base and they fly against enemy ships at least twice/day"
They should not fly unless they have something to escort.

Don't use "naval attack", use "escort". Under naval attack they actually attack the ships with small bombs. Under escort they will protect the bombers and engage any enemy fighters that appear.

I set the zero's to naval because no one was flying naval attack. At least this way I had zero's dropping 60kg bombs as opposed to all fighters and bombers sitting on the runway.

What are the experience and moral level they have?

This would be a more apt target for a Navel Attack

Man, I saw the title of this thread and thought that someone was going to describe his day at the beach with two honeys fighting over which one got to spread sunscreen on his belly...

Thanks, Cap, that was more like it (you posted while I was still writing).

Viking, what percentage of your Betty/Nell squadrons are set to naval search? Could this be the problem?

I don't know about that. I've seen photos of sailors lined up by the hundreds on Hotel Street in Honolulu during the war.

Make sure your sqdrn leaders are "agressive".I have noticed that cautious ones often ignore enemy, even in range of fighter escorts.javascript:void(AddText(''))
javascript:void(AddText(''))

I have them set to 30% search and there are plenty of Mavis's around. Enemy TF's are getting spotted.

I will check the leaders for aggresiveness.

I've noticed that I have better luck in naval attacks when the daitai are set to some % of naval search. I noticed this for the first time when I eliminated the naval search on my Vals and no one attacked PH on 7 Dec. When I reran the turn with the Vals set to 10% naval search, the attack went off without a hitch.

Settings should be something like that:

Mavis: orders naval search between 70-100 %

Betties/Nells: order naval attack with search level 10-30 %. I usually set their max range to 11, the range of the escorting Zeroes.

Zeroes: order escort, with no target hex chosen. CAP level 50% or less (the best IMOO if you have 2 units if to have one fly 90% CAP and the other fly escort, 0% CAP)

In WITP bombers will usually ignore solitary transports (one ship TF), PTs and barges. They will only attack the last two if set at 100 feet alt.

As someone allready said, check all you unit leaders in IJNAF units. Give both Zero and bomber units agressive leaders with high ratings. Some start with leaders with 50/50 level and changing them will really increase their efficiency.

Weather also plays a factor in the Nell's finding their targets and being able to take off for a mission. Are they set to Day or night operations? Do these task forces have fighter escorts? is their Airfield damage? is their enough Air Support on the ground? We need more info to help you.
