Hello I enjoyed playing this game until last week . Suddenly after the start movie the game change the resolution once and change it back so nothing happens. I didn't install anything as far as I remember. I uninstalled the game downloaded full ver 4.4 and got the same result. I uninstalled again and installed ver 2.1 from my CD with same results. Any clues? what should I do? regards, Emek System Information report written at: 08/11/2000 14:13:36 [System Summary] Item Value OS Name Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Version 5.0.2195 Build 2195 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard System Model HP OmniBook PC System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1 GenuineIntel ~500 Mhz BIOS Version PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 Windows Directory C:\WINNT System Directory C:\WINNT\System32 Boot Device \Device\Harddisk0\Partition2 Total Physical Memory 196,036 KB Available Physical Memory 63,908 KB Total Virtual Memory 667,620 KB Available Virtual Memory 411,072 KB Page File Space 471,584 KB Page File C:\pagefile.sys

Emek: If you only waited while the screen was black for only a few seconds try it again mine stays black for 20/30 seconds and then it (the game starts). It may just be a quirk and I hope it works for you. ------------------ Sm:):)th Sailing...chief

Hi! I've experienced exactly the same: I load a saved battle (campaign), get to the video screen, and when I press Continue, I do not get to start playing, but am placed on the desktop (which is no longer in colour but black and white). From this point on NOTHING happens (I've waited several minutes). Other than this, the game runs perfectly. Sturm ------------------

Hello guys : ) This sounds like windows error. It has lost suddenly it's capability to give resources ordered by Dx?. Happens sometimes. I'm not familiar with Win2k yet, but it was released before directX8. I haven't had any problems with DX7/win98SE, but as a new product Win2k could have some trails still open, and according to MS-publishing policy, you should update. But this is my first thought. Give more clues so we'll perhaps get something done. Sturm, will you give your operating sys vers. and direct X vers. ? Emek, Check if you have directX vers 8 in your machine. If not post it here. Has anybody tested DirectX 8 and spwaw? mosh http://www.skukko.com

Hi! Late answer, sorry I run win98se + dx8 Other than this problem, I have experienced no others running SPWaW with this setup. I run it in 800x600 and both graphics and sound run smoothly. I have started to wonder whether the problem might be related to the save slots? Because this only happens when I save a campaign inbetween battles (and in a certain slot, no. 18 if i remember correctly but also 17/19). Saving to other slots is no problem, so I have advanced past the first battle. Hope this helps, Sturm ------------------ Wacht am Bierstube

As mr Vebber mentioned: take hardware accelaration off from your videocard. Drivers made for some cards are not good. Look more of the topic in other thread at this forum.

Hello I disabled the acceleration in windows. No results. But the size of my wall paper restored to normal when i change the acceleration levels. In directX i don't have an option to disable since the button is grey.

Have you tried to install videocards drivers again? Do you have a chance to test your machine and game with another videocard?

I have the same problem. It started when I installed DX8.0. SPWAW 4.4 then puked after the movie. Also reduces wallpaper to 60%. The only change was DX8.0. I am on WIN2KP. I am an MCSE but not a programmer type. Any suggestions ? ------------------ When in doubt, go on line.

I don't know what to tell you about the problem, but maybe this will stir the pot a bit. I have 98SE and DX8, and SPWAW works just fine. I just hit the space bar and go thru all the startup screens and stuff. The interesting thing is if I run dxdiag (Direct X tester), it messes with my display a bit then displays it's menu, but by this time my background image went from being stretched to centered as a number of ya'll said was happening to you. Maybe you should try dxdiag and see if any of its tests fail or something. It might give a clue, though its a longshot.

Hello I think I found the problem. I reduced my virtual memory from 300Mb to 100Mb and received an error that I don't have enough. Then I changed it back to 300MB and now the game is working.

Sorry But i gave the wrong solution. After some testing the increase and decrease of virtual memory does not affect the problem. I found out that when i run the game from my LCD display the game stops running after the intro but when i connect my PC to the docking station with a normal monitor the game run's fine. In this case this is a monitor driver problem .The game is not fully compatible to all the monitors. Does anybody have a solution ? regards, EMEK.
