In another thread someone mentioned dividing air units and basing the subunits in differnet locations. Can anyone explain how to do this? I am playing 1.4 (tried to play upgraded to 1.5 but every time I selected a ground unit, primarily to see what I would need in terms of sealift to move it, the game crashed. Sent in a save, haven't heard back yet.) In any event I don't recall seeing the divide unit button in the unit window per the ground units. I'm playing the AI, trying to learn the knobology of the game before getting my head knocked in at pbem, and am interested in being able to disperse bomb groups, by squadron, to perform recon and airfield strikes. I am, admitadly, doing some things right now that probably wouldn't work against a live opponent, but don't feel too bad given a number of gamey aspects that have shown up anyway.
Also, do the Alaska class battle cruisers appear in the DB? I ealise they are late war platforms (I'm still in early 1942, after numerous flase starts) but have long thought they were kind of pretty. If present are they listed as BC or just as CA?

Not all units can be divided. Usually only divisions and brigades can be divided, although there are exceptions.

Alaskas are listed as CA's.

You can only divide large air formation (e.g. US FG, BG etc). These large formations typically have +40 a/c in them.

Two pionts to note are:

The unit must be complete, you cannot divide a unit if there are any sub-units on the board. The divide unit button is missing.

When you recombine make sure they are no sub-units around as you will wind up with the complete unit plus a sub unit that will never recombine. I think this is a bug as I'm sure the button should be missing preventing recombining just as there is with the divide option.

I'm not sure if the ground units work the same way, but just occasionally I get LCU with missing buttons when they should be there. Again i think its a bug.
