I wanted to create a quickly-played long campaign, so I chose one platoon as my core force. The campaign does proceed quickly. Has anyone else experimented alike? Biggest problem seems to be reaching all the victory hexes in time. If I run into entrenched positions, getting around or breaching through takes too long. I usually buy a pair of armoured cars to counter this problem. They can reach the hexes withing a couple of turns once the coast is clear, and usually the enemy doesn't have enough men to occupy all the hexes.

I have, though a platoon seems too light; I took a US rifle company into a campaign from D-Day to VE-Day. The big advantage is, as you pointed out, how fast the battles play, although it seems the battle generator isn't really capable of putting together a meaningful force with so few points.

Man, I keep going back to a long WWII campaign with a reinforced battalion. You have six nations to choose from, and each offer unique challenges. I'll give you the same advice I offered another player--wait until the new 8.4 mech.exe is released. Play with true troop ON and rarity OFF and you can choose a core force that will suit your style of play, regardless of nation chosen. You can't go wrong choosing a historical battalion, with attachments. This offers you a challenging experience. It will take you several weeks (or months) to complete it.

Generated campaigns are something else entirely---I don't play them, but for someone who wants to use a samller core force, this is probably the way to go.
