Hi guys I was wondering who made up the rules for special operations in spwaw 4.5 -> The idea in general is excellent that you would have behind line operations with elite units. HOWEVER: Why does it take SOOOOOO long to get those guys behind the lines. Who got the idea that your specs would start infiltrating at the eve of battle ? Here in Finland we have customed to prepare behind line operations so that you can set your watch by the attacks to com. and HQ deployment [-even during ww2]. Another good reason: What is the benefit of a VERY expensive unit if it takes 20 turns to get behind lines and there is a 40% chance of losing the entire group ! Specs are a good idea but unusable. I don´t want to start my attack on turn 25. I believe it should be changed asap. For example: You could set a turn in which the attack will start behind the lines. This might be delayed or happen even in advance due to failed experience checks(+- 4 turns fex.). There would be a possibility of failure depending on the enemy activity on the area. Also it might be totally cancelled if specs are spotted during movement to location and successfully hunted down. Please give comments on the subject. Maybe We can make a difference. I don't think thats a bad idea at all, I also don't mind losing the guys on the infiltrate, but i've stopped using them and moved to paratroops, because i can utilize them right from the sart if i want.

When I last tested this, and this is with v4.3b, the spec ops troops showed up between turn 4 and turn 13. This was to get to an area just behind the rear victory hexes. Looking at the distribution of the arrival turns, it appeared to be a bell curve with a 2 die 6 +2 spread on the turns with a 14 result perhaps meaning the troops didn't show at all. There were no 20 turn waits and I didn't see anything like a 40% noshow rate. This was British 1942 commando companies during a WWII campaign so your milage may vary. I only use spec ops infiltration when paras are not available. With the ability now to delay paras to a later turn they are a better way to get troops to the far side of the map. thanks, John.

Hello... The higher the experience of the infiltrating troops, the faster they arrive. Also, the closer to the friendly starting line, the faster the arrive. And, the fewer troops they have to go past, the faster they arrive. Hope this Helps... Michael Wood

In battles with more turns, such as the campaigns, one could always delay the offensive a few turns and still relatively easily accomplish the mission.

Thanks Using of elite recon troops was the only thing i did not try. With fresh troops it took 13 turns to infiltrate to a small village 8 hexes away from the starting position without enemy troops in vicinity. (3 of the squads got lost walking on friendly territory, with a clear line of sight to the target :( ) In second scenario, I ordered the very same units to attack on a bridge WAY behind (~30 hexes?) the enemy lines. Here they (3squads out of 2platoons) arrived on turn 28. It might be possible that this gets better when the units get some more experience but the general idea of having troops who starts to infiltrate when the attack begins, does not sound very professional. :) I now have relieved them from duty and assigned 2 platoons of paratroopers which perform their tasks on time with good precision. br Erno
