I am postings this to add my feelings to the list of opinions, seems like everyone else has, thought I would chime in also.

A while back I was cruising through the forums at subsim.com when I noticed a UV banner in someone’s post, I hadn't heard of the game before and I thought I would check it out, after finding this website my jaw dropped when I saw UV, as a long time fan of SSI's Greatest Naval Battle's series, particularly II with it's focus on Watchtower, was amazed with what UV offered. I ordered UV the first time I visited this site. While I was waiting for the UV to arrive in the mail I heard about the upcoming WitP and came here and have been hooked since.

I remember one of the first threads I read was about the USS Langley and someone was complaining that it was going to be classed an AV and not a CVE or a CS, and I remember thinking, "wait the Langley is in the game, that is COOL!"
Although it would be cool if we had the option of converting it to a CVE like the IJN CS's. Is this possible in the editor?

I also remember when Frag said that for the transport TF you were limited to 100 ships, and I posted, "why on earth would you need 100 ships?" I remember in GNB2 you were limited to 12

And there were countless other items in WitP that I was amazed by their inclusion (and amazed by other rants on them)

"Dutch mines are too powerful" ~~ Wait we get to play with Dutch mine laying subs!
The Martin 139 pilots are to accurate~~ What is a martin 139?
PT boat Tenders should be able to rearm PT boats from dot hexes ~~WOW this game has PT boat tenders!

Matrix and 2x3 has done a amazing job tackling this monster, and despite the mainly claims otherwise have, I feel, taken care of the customers, two of the bigger examples were the addition of the max sorties for carriers (remember that was added in as a result of being mentioned on this forum) and the player defined upgrades, which again was purely the result of players requesting it. plus countless other add ons.

That is why the notion that pops up in the forum that WitP is a bag of cow dung forced on us forced on us by a bunch of 3 headed ogers, has always puzzled me, if they had stopped at Ver 1.1 ok, but we are now at 1.6 and I doubt that is the last patch (although I do realize they won't go on forever) and the fixes and addition list goes on and on. Besides the community as a whole has given us some wonderful mods (CHS, Subchaser's Map, Andrews Map, Cobra's Large AK full of art).

WitP is by far the GREATEST computer game I have ever played. I just wanted to add my $0.02 to tell everyone involved in this project.....

Well in the type of way a war gamer loves guys who make war games

One more point while I am on my soapbox, this morning I read in a post where someone said that, in effect, the opinions of another forum member didn't really matter, because they didn't care about reality and were too dumb to understand how the game should work. Ironically the person getting flamed has always been very positive, and is like all of us here, a fan of the game and someone who loves the subject matter (it isn't really that big of a group). I would just like to say that this was the lowest, dirtiest, most juvenile post I have read on this forum, I would hope that people would divert a little brain power from complaining about gun packages and think before they post trash like this!

I have to agree. Matirx, 2 by 3, or others involved. I love this game. I've gotten hours of entertainment and I'm just now starting PBM. This fun could go on for years. Way to go guys.

It is so nice to see postive posts. This game reminds me how I felt over 30 years when I first started playing wargames. With each new game I felt like a kid in a candy store. To all at Matrix and many others who helped to make this a great game, Thanks.

I'll second (or upteeth) that! I have always imagined a game with the scope of WITP and even with the relatively minor problems that people argue about (it is just a game remember) it is a dream come true. I first got started playing civil war SSI games on my C64 in the mid 80's (Chickamauga, Antietam, Gettysburg) and have been watching these games evolve ever since.

Hopefully this post will be near the top of the list for a while just to show the developers how much most of us appreciate their efforts!

No, haven't played that one. I kind of missed out a few years, when the C64 was obsolete, and I didn't yet have a PC. I'm currently buying lots of old stuff to play in DosBox to make up for all those lost gaming years. Only problem is WITP is taking up plenty of my free time.

I wholeheartedly agree!!!

Even with the bugs and huge effort to squash, disagreements about history, gaming, OOB, and every minor thing you can think of, WITP is the most detailed wargame of a dynamite subject you can get.

I DO believe in opinions and discussion and understand Tristanjohn's detail (I am similiar and enjoy most of his writings) which is probably like me more of an attempt at venting his attention to detail. However everyone does not think alike and getting defensive or personal is not necessary or productive to getting results. WITP is a huge effort and I am sure many concessions and compromises had to be made from the many opinions during and after design. I believe the end result is very much a success in the balance of history and playability with some surprises in the unknown (for instance the human factor and how many different styles of play would come and the ability of the AI to handle so many different choices).

And as always the community has taken much effort at becoming involved and creating alternate versions for those who so choose.

While other game developers fell ... 2by3 together with Matrix fought sleep
deprivations ! What can I say that hasn't already been said by
MkXIV and the other posters? My bit of thanks! This is truly one game that is
in its' class all its' own!.

Kudos for doing the above and beyond! To put this game out to all, is a major
step... to support it and listen to us all .

Thanks to ALL involved ! Back to the game
