9/6/42 Area 1 Weekly report LT GEN Hamma: Well the "push" has been stopped, the forces west of mandalaby only got a 1 to 1 today, heavily disrupted by a B17 raid just on jump of point. As commanded, the forces shall withdraw to pagan, then swing west, and try there - as long as casualties are kept low, i should be alright Burma HQ is 100% 15 HQ is at 100% 23 mixed is at 60% 4th mixed is at 70% 55 div is at 80% 1st tank is at 100%, these forces withdraw in good order towards pagan south of mandalaby 12 nlf plays its roll to the east of mandalaby 35 brigade is at 100% and 33rd div is marching north from rangoon I am evacuating 123 IJA base force from Akyab raheng is building , with extra AA units enroute The navy continues to swing around its bouys, doing nothing - I believe the navy has a plan, and it needs a CVL to arrive, which departed. I am pleased that I have been promised the Imperial division, which, apparently is enroute to singapore. Extra artillery from Bataan is also promised. I do not understand the grand strategy at all , the enemy gets stronger every day, and I recieve little help. have not seen a japanese bomber for 2 weeks AREA 2 LTGEN Itagaki The capture of bataan was a nice moment. I am enroute to soerabaya, where we will finish off the dutch I will be pleased to finish this op, things have been difficult, losing the imperial DIV to the burma front (not that he will get it for a month) upset staff badly Here in the phillipines I have 2nd div, and 54th, both loading and sailing for soerabaya All the auxillary units here also are loading - Hamma got the imperial, if he thinks he is going to get my guns, he's wrong The airforce and navy continue to co operate , I have just got 4th mixed into kraeg, and supplies as well 3 sqs of zeros are providing cover, but the navy is paying the cost, several PGs are sunk this week at Lombok, they are a lure to his air, as the important ships get in At soerabaya 100 sallies pound away,5th, 18th div bombard I need 2 more divisions. Fortunately they are in good condition I remain confident that this will finish quickly once I get there. I order 65,56 brigades to clean up the outer islands Area3 LT GEN Yamishita how pleased to leave the jungle outside soerabaya, and to fly to darwin. today i watched 38 helens wing there way south, a large army, so gar counted at 5 units has passed through the alice springs intersection, and approaches One is identified as the aust 1st cav div 1st unit in contact - 32 nlf will be a recon unit, and retire, then 38 div will be the 1st road block I intend to retire in good order down the road, and the units on the flanks will continously try to cut the road behind him I have asked for, and been promised a large number of transport planes to supply these units high command informs me that supplies from kendari are enroute Most pleasing of all was the supply ship this week, it delivered literally 1000"s of 14" naval shells I am to recieve battleships Hiei and Kirishima as gunnery support Yammato tells me that with out enemy air to worry about, they will be glad to act as major artillery anchored safely in the harbour Apparently they are enroute, sailing yesterday from japan Supplies are good, moral fantastic. I look forward to the fight. Area4 LT GEN Homma Its a funny situation here No naval ships here at Truk to note, except a harbour full, literally full of transports , all waiting for fuel 75 000 ton is almost here, it won't be enough The enemy submarines are in a net around Truk, ASW forces chase them, and score hits now and then. In the solomons I am trying to relieve some troops, especially construction units, which are worn out. The fuel situation, and supply situation is critical to the south, again I await convoys with promised supplies - which never seems to come quickly enough Other problems - 4 divisions are here - 56th,4th,48th,16th, all under 14th army HQ, plus engineers and tanks quite an army - but if I do not get fuel, they are stuck here yammato has charged of to the gilberts - he has'nt a clue, grand strategy - bah! Area5 RADM Ntiekamaya the fleet is here let the enemy come just spoke to yammato, and am confident now of the plan Area6 Gen hatas I have returned from leave The front is quiet, give me permission to attack! Combined fleet The war has stalled despite impassioned pleas to come to a settlement, the War cabinet refuses to seek a settlement the enemy CVs remain the principle threat. the Army commanders remani fixated on soerabaya, or burma, or darwin, important yes, but not war deciding the key is 4 divisions at truk, the enemy must be counting them. In 1 weeks time the eastern fleet will sail, CVs and BBs headed to tricomalee - and I will announce to the world that the Indian liberation has begun LT Gen hamma is playing his role well - is the burma attack a ruse, or a real push Ships in the Indian ocean will hopefully convince the enemy its a ruse, add wieght to the "indian Attack" And I am convinced this will see the enemy then commit here in the gilberts, and I am ready for him, with the real carrier fleet I cannot go and attack him, I do not have the fuel. And I want to fight in betty range I look forward to the decisive battle Home front Supplies 2089136 Fuel 3370235 Oil 941768 major stuff up nakijima engines, none in pool, as some one expanded the wrong factory, this will take months to rectify, fortunately pools of planes are good. have halted many plane factories this month, to save supply, so that planes in pool can actually be released. naval shipyards are in good state, just ordered accelleration of taiho. We are struggling, but can manage.
